ABSTRACT

A supernumerary ovary is a rare gynecological anomaly, and is usually excised due to its malignant transformation potential. We report a case of a supernumerary ovary and endometriosis situated on the anterior rectosigmoid colon. When laparoscopy was conducted, a firm, 5-cm mass was discovered on the anterior rectosigmoid colon along with normal ovaries. In this case, the discovery of a supernumerary ovary implied the presence of endometriosis. It is unusual for endometriosis and a supernumerary ovary to exist simultaneously.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Ultrasound is an important diagnostic tool in inguinal hernia and in the evaluation of the contents of the hernia sac. This report presents a case in which ultrasound revealed a herniated ectopic ovary, complicated by torsion of its vascular pedicle, in the right labia majora. We also present a brief discussion of ovarian hernia, its potential complications, and the treatments available.

ABSTRACT

The ectopic ovary is a rarely reported gynecologic entity. A variety of synonymous terms have been used to describe this condition, such as supernumerary ovary, accessory ovary, and ovarian implant syndrome. The etiology of ectopic ovary is poorly understood. The ectopic ovaries may occur in two ways. First, in the embryonic theories, they are believed to result from abnormal separation of a small portion of the developing and migrating ovarian primordium. Second, the accessory ovary can occur from acquired conditions such as inflammation and operations. In this report, we describe a case of the ectopic ovary with a mature cystic teratoma autoamputated into the cul-de-sac and subsequently diagnosed by laparoscopy.

ABSTRACT

The dermoid cysts occur most frequently in the ovary and are extremely rare in the greater omentum. We report a case of dermoid cyst of the greater omentum misdiagnosed as right ovarian cyst. She was a 27-year-old woman with an omental dermoid cyst of 6 cm in diameter in the cul-de-sac, and the tumor was resected laparoscopically. The histopathologic diagnosis was dermoid cyst and no evidence of malignancy was noted. The patient had no right ovary and tube. These findings demonstrated possible autoamputation of an ovary with dermoid cyst.
