ABSTRACT

Eucommia ulmoides, a plant belonging to Eucommiaceae, has a history of medical use for over two thousand years in China. The dried bark and leaves of this plant are usually used as medicinal materials. Due to the high safety in clinical application, E. ulmoides leaves were officially recognized for both medicinal and edible use by the food safety evaluation in 2019, providing a valuable resource for the development of food and health products. According to the traditional Chinese medicine theory, E. ulmoides has the effects of nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening sinews and bones, and calming fetus. Modern research has shown that different parts such as the bark, leaves, flowers, and seeds of E. ulmoides contain similar chemical components, including phenylpropanoids, terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, steroids, and polysaccharides. E. ulmoides exhibits diverse pharmacological activities such as lowering blood pressure and blood lipid and glucose levels, preventing osteoporosis and possesses anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective effects. Therefore, it holds great potential for the development of products with both medicinal and edible values. This review systematically summarizes the chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and representative medicinal and edible products of different parts of E. ulmoides. It is expected to provide theoretical references for the clinical application of E. ulmoides and its active components and the development and utilization of the products with both medicinal and edible values. This review contributes to a deeper understanding of the medicinal properties of E. ulmoides and provides guidance for further exploration of its applications in the healthcare field. As a plant with both medicinal and edible values, E. ulmoides is expected to attract more attention in future research and contribute to human health.

ABSTRACT

Minimally processed strawberries have high acceptability but a short shelf life. The application of edible coatings with essential oils may be an alternative to preserve these fruits. Our objective was to develop, apply and characterize the effect of bioactive edible coatings based on agar or sodium alginate with thyme and/or sweet orange essential oils with antimicrobial properties, mainly against Listeria monocytogenes, for strawberries. The effect of the coatings on the physicochemical, microbiological, and sensory properties that determine the shelf life of strawberries was verified at 1, 8, and 15 days. The effect against Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in strawberries artificially contaminated with this microorganism was also evaluated. Thyme and sweet orange essential oils had thymol and D-limonene, respectively, as main components. Alginate coating with sweet orange and thyme essential oil showed the best results. For Listeria monocytogenes, the coating applied after fruit contamination had an antimicrobial effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the quality status of salt iodine monitoring results at the county level and checking results at the city level from 2017 to 2021 in Suzhou, and to provide a scientific basis for the development of iodine deficiency disease(IDD)prevention and control strategies and measures.  Methods During the past five years, Suzhou CDC randomly selected 15 samples of 300 monitored salt samples from each county/district CDC each year for spot checks. The data were processed by comparative analysis of relative error and grouped data t test.  Results In the conformity of iodized salt and non-iodized salt, the sample monitoring results of some counties/districts were non-iodized salt, while the city-level test results were iodized salt. In the conformity of iodized salt and seaweed iodized salt (or enhanced salt), the sample monitoring results of county/district level were iodized salt, while the test results at the city level were seaweed iodized salt (or enhanced salt). The non-conformity was relatively concentrated in some county/district laboratories, and the total amount of non-conformity tended to increase year by year. The total number of samples with relative error of >20% between the county/district and city-level results was the least in 2021, with 6, and the most in 2018, with 25. The number of samples with relative error of >30% between the county/district and city-level results was the least in 2017 being 0, while there were 12 samples in 2018, fluctuating within a small range in the past three years. The t-test results of grouped data showed that the average value of the checking results at the city level was generally higher than the monitoring results at the county level. There were 21 pairs of data with no statistical significance (P>0.05) and 29 pairs of data with statistical significance (P<0.05) between the results at the county/district level and at the city level. Among them, there were 7 counties/districts whose sample monitoring results were not significantly different from the city-level test results in 2020, while there were 9 counties/districts whose monitoring results were statistically different from the city-level test results in 2021.  Conclusion  The data analysis results show that the monitoring data of iodized salt in Suzhou is basically reliable and accurate, but there still exist some problems. Therefore, in the future work it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring system of IDD, increase training efforts, continuously monitor and check the quality of iodized salt to provide a scientific basis for effective prevention and control of IDD.

ABSTRACT

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an acute, severe, and highly contagious infectious disease caused by foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), which seriously endangers the development of animal husbandry. The inactivated FMD vaccine is the main product for the prevention and control of FMD, which has been successfully applied to control the pandemic and outbreak of FMD. However, the inactivated FMD vaccine also has problems, such as the instability of antigen, the risk of spread of the virus due to incomplete inactivation during vaccine production, and the high cost of production. Compared with traditional microbial and animal bioreactors, production of antigens in plants through transgenic technology has some advantages including low cost, safety, convenience, and easy storage and transportation. Moreover, since antigens produced from plants can be directly used as edible vaccines, no complex processes of protein extraction and purification are required. But, there are some problems for the production of antigens in plants, which include low expression level and poor controllability. Thus, expressing the antigens of FMDV in plants may be an alternative mean for production of FMD vaccine, which has certain advantages but still need to be continuously optimized. Here we review the main strategies for expressing active proteins in plants, as well as the research progress on the expression of FMDV antigens in plants. We also discuss the current problems and challenges encountered, with the aim to facilitate related research.

ABSTRACT

Lancang-Mekong countries refer to the six countries that the Lancang-Mekong River flows through, including China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. These countries are geographically adjacent with similar cultures and have long history of traditional medicine and high plant diversity. Since ancient times, medicinal plants have been introduced into China from the countries along the river, including a variety of medicinal plants with edible and healthcare values, which is an important way for the transnational circulation of medicinal resources. This paper briefly described the history and application of edible medicinal plants in the six Lancang-Mekong countries and summarized more than 150 edible medicinal plants from the other five countries except China. These 150 medicinal plants belong to 66 families such as Labiatae, and 12 species of them are used as edible medicinal plants in all the six countries. Further, we collected the information of these edible medicinal plants, including the origins, efficacy, indications, medicinal edible parts, edible values, and the traditional application of these plants in China. Some valuable edible medicinal plants in the other five countries are considered to have a promising prospect of application in China and may be introduced to China as new medicinal resources. These efforts will be conducive to the cooperation in traditional medicine among Lancang-Mekong countries.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#Identifying novel strategies to prevent particulate matter (PM)-induced lung injury is crucial for the reduction of the morbidity of chronic respiratory diseases. The combined intervention represented by herbal formulae for simultaneously targeting multiple pathological processes can provide a more beneficial effect than the single intervention. The aim of this paper is therefore to design a safe and effective medicinal and edible Chinese herbs (MECHs) formula against PM-induced lung injury.@*METHODS@#PM-induced oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis A549 cell model were used to screen anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic MECHs, respectively. A network pharmacology method was utilized to rationally design a novel herbal formula. Ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer was utilized to assess the quality control of MECHs formula. The excretion of magnetic iron oxide nanospheres of the MECHs formula was estimated in zebrafish. The MECH formula against PM-induced lung injury was investigated with mice experiments.@*RESULTS@#Five selected herbs were rationally designed to form a new MECH formula, including Citri Exocarpium Rubrum (Juhong), Lablab Semen Album (Baibiandou), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Mori Folium (Sangye) and Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma (Yuzhu). The formula effectively promoted the magnetic iron oxide nanospheres excretion in zebrafish. The mid/high dose formula significantly prevented PM-induced lung damage in mice by enhancing the activity of SOD and GSH-Px, reducing the MDA and ROS level and attenuating the upregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine (IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β and TNF-α), down regulating the protein expression of NF-κB, STAT3 and Caspase-3.@*CONCLUSION@#Our findings suggest that the effective MECHs formula will become a novel strategy for preventing PM-induced lung injury and provide a paradigm for the development of functional foods using MECHs.

ABSTRACT

Edible bird's nest (EBN) is a kind of natural invigorant with a long history of consumption in Asia, especially in China. EBN is formed by mixing the saliva of swiftlets (Aerodramus) with feathers and other components during the breeding season. Proteins are the most important nutrient in EBN. By studying proteins in EBN, we can not only elucidate their components at the molecular level, but also study their bioactivities. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the proteins in EBN. Previous research on the proteins in EBN was preliminary and cursory, and no one has summarized and analyzed the proteins in EBN and correlated the bioactivities of these proteins with the biological functions of EBN. This article focused on the proteins in EBN, listed the proteins identified in different proteomic studies, and introduced the sources, structures and bioactivities of the most frequently identified proteins, including acidic mammalian chitinase, lysyl oxidase homolog 3, mucin-5AC, ovoinhibitor, nucleobindin-2, calcium-binding protein (MW: 4.5 × 104) and glucose-regulated protein (MW: 7.8 × 104). The properties of these proteins are closely related to the bioactivities of EBN. Therefore, this article can provide inspiration for further research on the efficacy of EBN.

ABSTRACT

Malignant tumors are a major health problem in current society. With the improvement of people's living standards and the changes in diet structure, the development trend of gastrointestinal tumors in China is gradually similar to that in developed countries. The incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) remain high in China. Although targeted therapy and immunotherapy have greatly improved the prognosis of patients in recent years, chemotherapy is still the main means in clinical practice. However, the adverse reactions of chemotherapy often seriously affect the quality of life of patients, and even lead to treatment interruption, thereby affecting the efficacy. Oral Chinese medicine shows unique advantages in enhancing efficiency and reducing toxicity in CRC patients during chemotherapy, but its poor drug experience not only makes it difficult for patients to take it consistently but also affects the popularization of Chinese medicine at this stage. Medicinal and edible herbs (MEHs) are an important part of Chinese medicine and they are mild, delicious, convenient, affordable, nutritious, and safe. Therefore, they may be more suitable for patients with CRC chemotherapy to adhere to treatment. However, their efficacy is often criticized by clinical practitioners. They are only used in the food and health products industry, and their role as Chinese medicines has not been fully utilized. This paper summarized the common traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes and treatment methods during CRC chemotherapy, sorted out the nature, flavor, meridian tropism, and efficacy of MEHs, and reviewed the modern pharmacological research results of MEHs by the method of literature statistics. This study finds that the nature, flavor, meridian tropism, and efficacy of MEHs are in good agreement with the common TCM syndromes and treatment methods during CRC chemotherapy. Moreover, many MEHs have the effects of resisting CRC and alleviating the adverse reactions of chemotherapy. Furthermore, the effectiveness and superior efficacy of MEHs in CRC chemotherapy are initially demonstrated from the theoretical level, but high-quality clinical evidence is still needed to support it. The present study discussed the efficiency-enhancing and toxicity-reducing effects and application advantages of MEHs in CRC patients during chemotherapy to provide references for the clinical promotion of MEHs.

ABSTRACT

To realize the non-destructive and rapid origin discrimination of Poria cocos in batches, this study established the P. cocos origin recognition model based on hyperspectral imaging combined with machine learning. P. cocos samples from Anhui, Fujian, Guangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Henan and Yunnan were used as the research objects. Hyperspectral data were collected in the visible and near infrared band(V-band, 410-990 nm) and shortwave infrared band(S-band, 950-2 500 nm). The original spectral data were divided into S-band, V-band and full-band. With the original data(RD) of different bands, multiplicative scatter correction(MSC), standard normal variation(SNV), S-G smoothing(SGS), first derivative(FD), second derivative(SD) and other pretreatments were carried out. Then the data were classified according to three different types of producing areas: province, county and batch. The origin identification model was established by partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA) and linear support vector machine(LinearSVC). Finally, confusion matrix was employed to evaluate the optimal model, with F1 score as the evaluation standard. The results revealed that the origin identification model established by FD combined with LinearSVC had the highest prediction accuracy in full-band range classified by province, V-band range by county and full-band range by batch, which were 99.28%, 98.55% and 97.45%, respectively, and the overall F1 scores of these three models were 99.16%, 98.59% and 97.58%, respectively, indicating excellent performance of these models. Therefore, hyperspectral imaging combined with LinearSVC can realize the non-destructive, accurate and rapid identification of P. cocos from different producing areas in batches, which is conducive to the directional research and production of P. cocos.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Global agriculture production must increase by about 60-70 percent from the current levels to meet the increased food demand in 2050, which will demand enormous resources, with traditional protein sources being the most expensive, overexploited, and environmentally damaging. New alternative protein sources are a necessity for the agricultural sector. Since 2003, FAO (2009) has included insects as feed and food as an alternative protein source because they are nutritious and environmentally sustainable. One of the most promising species is the tropical house cricket (Gryllodes sigillatus), whose potential as a sustainable production system has been demonstrated in several Asian and European countries. This article presents the aspects associated with using and producing the G. sigillatus that can make it sustainable as food in Colombia, accounting for the general and nutritional features of this species and the socioeconomic and environmental advantages of raising these crickets, and insects in general. It was established that, even though there are entrepreneurships in the country, research on this species needs to continue, both in terms of its large-scale production and of its nutritional qualities, to strengthen the economic sector and to improve the material conditions of farmers.

ABSTRACT

Proteases are ubiquitously present and are among the largest groups of commercially important enzymes. Here, we investigated a wood-rot basidiomycete Trametes versicolor (L.) Lloyd [Syn. Coriolus versicolor (L.) Quél.; Polyporus versicolor (L.) Fr.] as a source of the enzyme serine protease, its production, and optimized to obtain a higher yield of the enzyme.. The significant variables with optimized values for maximum production of the enzyme were temperature (30?C), incubation time (120 h) and wheat bran (10 g). The yield increased by 30.76% by statistically optimizing the media. The optimized temperature and pH for the maximum protease activity was 50?C and pH 7.0, respectively. The enzyme was purified through ion exchange (using DEAE cellulose 52 resin) and gel filtration chromatography (using Superdex 200 column). The purified enzyme had a retention time of 7 min in RP-HPLC. The enzyme was stable at a broad range of temperature (30-60?C) and pH (5.0-8.0) with a half-life of 58.72 min, Vmax of 37.17 ?M min/mL and Km of 0.657 mg/mL. Its activity was enhanced by Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+ ions and SDS surfactant. These properties make this enzyme a valuable candidate for industrial applications

ABSTRACT

Background: This research was motivated by the complaints of tomato farmers about their crops that quickly rotted before being sold, as well as the many research results (raw materials and methods) that edible coating films could not be applied optimally. Objectives: The research was a practical recommendation by comparing the effectiveness of raw materials (polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids) with the dipping and spray methods. Materials and methods used in the comparison process were the application of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Square (PLS) approach. Results: Dipping has a strong effect (f2 ≥ 0.35; p<0.05), while spray had a moderate effect (f2: 0.15-0.35; p<0.05). Thus, the role of dipping as a mediator was more dominant than spray. Compared to proteins and lipids, polysaccharides had the best effectiveness (ß:0.460-0.584; f2: 0.15-0.35; p<0.05). Conclusion: the three ingredients improved the quality of tomatoes, and the dipping method was easier to apply by farmers than the spray method, which had many obstacles in its application

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Background: Polysaccharides from edible mushrooms possess immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor activities. Recent studies indicated that necroptosis plays a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and mediates increased expression of inflammatory cytokines. Objective: Therefore, it is imperative to determine the impact of polysaccharide extract from Lentinula edodes (L. edodes) on inflammatory cytokines in experimental model of colitis in mice. Methods: Female C57BL/6 mice divided into three or four mice per group were used for this study. Polysaccharide sample was orally administered to mice prior to (7 days) and during colitis induction with 2.5% dextran sodium sulfate (7 days), followed by additional 3 days of administration. Changes in body weight and colon length were used as markers for colitis, and pro-inflammatory cytokines and tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) expressions, as well as necroptosis were analyzed in the colon of colitis mice. Data obtained were analysed by Tukey-Kramer and two-tailed standard t tests. Results: The results indicated that the polysaccharide sample suppressed colitis in mice using effects on the body weight and colon length as markers. Also, it was demonstrated that necrostatin-1, a specific inhibitor of necroptosis, suppressed the expression of interleukin (IL)-8, a pro-inflammatory chemokine, in Caco-2 cells induced necroptosis induced by zVAD and TNF-α, an indication that necroptosis may be involved in the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, the polysaccharide sample suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-6, IL-1β, and interferon (IFN)-γ in the colon of mice. Conclusion: These results suggested that the suppressive effects of the polysaccharide sample on inflammatory cytokines expression may contribute to its anti-colitis effect, and so may serve as a potent therapeutic agent against inflammatory bowel disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To dynamically investigate the iodine nutritional status of residents in water source high iodine areas in Hebei Province, so as to provide basis for taking targeted prevention and control measures and accurate intervention strategies. Methods:According to the "National Monitoring Program for Water Source High Iodine Areas (2018 Edition)", water source high iodine monitoring was carried out in 5 cities and 35 counties (cities, districts, hereinafter referred to as counties) of Hebei Province. According to the survey results of drinking water iodine of residents of Hebei Province in 2017, the administrative villages with a median water iodine above 100 μg/L were sorted according to the water iodine value. The systematic sampling method was adopted. Five administrative villages were selected in each county, if there were less than 5 administrative villages, all of them were selected (if the median water iodine was > 300 μg/L, at least one village shall be selected). The iodine content in drinking water of residents among the monitoring sites, salt iodine, urinary iodine and thyroid volume of children aged 8 - 10, as well as salt iodine and urinary iodine of pregnant women were tested. Water iodine was detected by the "Method Suitable for the Detection of Water Iodine in Iodine Deficient and High Iodine Areas" recommended by the National Iodine Deficiency Reference Laboratory of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Salt iodine was detected by semi quantitative method. Urinary iodine was detected by "Arsenic Cerium Catalytic Spectrophotometry Method" (WS/T 107-2006). Children's thyroid volume was detected by B-ultrasound.Results:A total of 239 water samples were collected in 167 villages, 35 counties, the median water iodine was 163.95 μg/L, ranging from 5.53 - 930.82 μg/L. A total of 6 772 edible salt samples were monitored, including 3 495 non-iodine salt samples and the rate of non-iodine salt was 51.61% (3 495/6 772). A total of 6 101 urine samples of children were tested, the median urinary iodine was 328.00 μg/L. A total of 6 103 children aged 8 - 10 were carried out B-ultrasound detection of thyroid volume in 35 counties. The goiter rate of children was 5.01% (306/6 103), and the rate of nodules was 0.56% (34/6 103). A total of 713 urine samples of pregnant women were tested, and the median urinary iodine was 221.70 μg/L.Conclusions:The iodine nutrition of children in water source high iodine areas of Hebei Province is at an excess level, and the iodine nutrition of pregnant women is at an appropriate level. In addition to stopping the supply of iodized salt, we should further expand the coverage of water improvement and iodine reduction projects in high iodine areas, and strengthen the monitoring of iodine nutrition status of key populations.

ABSTRACT

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common degenerative disease of the central nervous system in the elderly, with memory impairment and behavioral changes as the main clinical manifestations. Modern research has demonstrated that many herbs with both medicinal and edible values have anti-oxidation and anti-aging activities. In addition, these herbs are naturally safe and play a role in disease prevention and health care. The 110 medicinal and edible herbs announced by the National Health Commission of the People's Republic ofChina in 2021 were studied. The relevant papers published in the last five years were searched against CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, PubMed and other databases. The effects, mechanism, and active ingredients of the medicinal and edible herbs against Alzheimer's disease were summarized. The results showed that more than 30 herbs including Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, Corni Fructus, Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Cistanches Herba, Croci Stigma, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Ganoderma and their active ingredients were effective in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Among them, ten herbs that met the requirements were screened out for analysis. The medicinal and edible herbs and their active ingredients can act on multiple targets and treat Alzheimer's disease via multiple signaling pathways such as nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinase 5 (MEK5)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase 5 (ERK5), cytochrome C (CytC) and cysteine aspartate-specific protease (Caspase)-3/(Caspase)-9, Wnt/β-catenin, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tyrosine kinase receptor B (TrkB)/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt), thus improving learning, cognitive ability, and memory ability. Most of the medicinal and edible herbs have the tropism to the heart, spleen, liver, and kidney meridians and tonifying effect.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo explore the activating effects of ten important effective components in seven medicinal and edible substances on human pregnane X receptor (PXR), including Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (liquiritin and glycyrrhizic acid), Houttuyniae Herba (quercetin and houttuyfonate), Prunellae Spica (rosmarinic acid), Cassiae Semen (aurantio-obtusin), Poria (pachymic acid), Lilii Bulbus (Lilium brownii saponin and colchicine), and Lycii Fructus (Lycium barbarum polysaccharide) and screen potentially toxic components. MethodCell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to investigate the cytotoxic effect of liquiritin, glycyrrhizic acid, quercetin, houttuyfonate, rosmarinic acid, pachymic acid, aurantio-obtusin, and colchicine (10, 20, and 50 μmol·L-1), and L. brownii saponin and L. barbarum polysaccharide (10, 20, and 50 mg·L-1) on normal human hepatocyte cell line (L02). The release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in L02 cells after drug treatments was detected by the biochemical analyzer. The apoptosis induced by ten effective components was explored by Hoechst 33342 staining. The secreted luciferase reporter system was used to co-transfect the PXR expression vector and reporter gene vector containing cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) transcriptional regulatory region into L02 cells, with 10 μmol·L-1 rifampicin (RIF) as a positive control. After treated with liquiritin, glycyrrhizic acid, quercetin, houttuyfonate, rosmarinic acid, aurantio-obtusin, pachymic acid, and colchicine (5, 10, and 20 μmol·L-1) and L. brownii saponin and L. barbarum polysaccharide (5, 10, and 20 mg·L-1) for 24 h, the cells were tested for secreted luciferase activity. ResultCompared with the control group, colchicine, L. brownii saponin, and quercetin decreased the cell viability (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the control group, quercetin, rosmarinic acid, glycyrrhizic acid, colchicine, aurantio-obtusin, and pachymic acid increased the release rate of LDH in L02 cells (P<0.05, P<0.01). The proportion of hyperchromatic nuclei increased gradually after rosmarinic acid, liquiritin, and L. barbarum polysaccharide treatments as compared with the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). In terms of co-transfection of pcDNA3.1-PXR and pGLuc-CYP3A4 into L02 cells, compared with the control group, aurantio-obtusin and pachymic acid showed activating effects on PXR (P<0.05), whereas liquiritin and glycyrrhizic acid showed inhibitory effects (P<0.05). ConclusionThe findings suggest that when medicinal and edible substances are taken for a long time, attention should be paid to their influence on drug-metabolizing enzymes and possible interactions, so as to improve their safety.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the resource utilization of used fungus-growing materials produced in the cultivation of Gastrodia elata. To be specific, based on the production practice, this study investigated the recycling mechanism of used fungus-growing materials of G. elata by Phallus inpudicus. To screen edible fungi with wide adaptability, this study examined the allelopathic effects of Armillaria mellea secretions on P. impudicus and 6 kinds of large edible fungi and the activities of enzymes related to degradation of the used fungus-growing materials of G. elata. The results showed that P. impudicus can effectively degrade cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in used fungus-growing materials of G. elata. The cellulase activity of A. mellea was significantly higher than that of P. impudicus, and the activities of lignin peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase, and xylanase of P. impudicus were significantly higher than those of A. mellea, which was the important reason why A. mellea and P. impudicus used different parts and components of the used fungus-growing materials to absorb carbon sources and develop ecological niche differences. The growth of P. impudicus was significantly inhibited on the used fungus-growing materials of G. elata. The secretions of A. mellea had allelopathic effects on P. impudicus and other edible fungi, and the allelopathic effects were related to the concentration of allelopathy substances. The screening result showed that the growth and development of L. edodes and A. auricular were not significantly affected by 30% of A. mellea liquid, indicating that they had high resistance to the allelopathy of A. mellea. The results showed that the activities of extracellular lignin peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase, and xylanase of the two edible fungi were similar to those of P. impudicus, and the cellulase activity was higher than that of P. impudicus. This experiment can be further verified by small-scale production tests.
