ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effect of electromyography biofeedback therapy combined with oxiracetam on peripheral blood heme oxidase-1 (HO-1), soluble apoptotic molecules and cognitive function in patients with senile vascular dementia (VaD).Methods:One hundred and fourteen elderly patients with VaD from May 2018 to May 2020 in Xingtai Third Hospital were selected and divided into two groups according to the random number table method, with 57 cases in each group. Both groups were given conventional treatment. On this basis, the control group was given oxiracetam, and the observation group was given electromyography biofeedback therapy combined with oxiracetam. The treatment effects after treated for 1 month was compared between the two groups. The levels of serum HO-1, soluble apoptotic molecules sFas, sFasL before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Cognitive function evaluated by Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). The scores of Chinese Stroke Scale (CSS), Ability of Daily Living (ADL) before and after treatment and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results:After treated for 1 month, the total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group: 93.0%(53/57) vs. 77.2%(44/57), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). After treated for 1 month, the level of serum HO-1 in the two groups was higher than that before treatment, and the level of serum HO-1 in the observation group was higher than that in the control group: (30.21 ± 4.05) μg/L vs. (24.19 ± 3.47) μg/L, the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). The levels of serum sFas and sFasL in two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment, and the levels of serum sFas and sFasL in the observation group were lower than those the control group after treatment: (81.57 ± 16.23) ng/L vs. (118.49 ± 25.09) ng/L, (135.47 ± 24.41) ng/L vs. (200.71 ± 30.29) ng/L, the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). After treated for 1 month, the CSS scores in the observation group was lower than the control group: (13.48 ± 2.15) scores vs. (17.22 ± 3.02) scores; the WMS, MMSE, and ADL scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group: (97.75 ± 10.27) scores vs. (88.43 ± 9.16) scores, (23.82 ± 2.50) scores vs. (21.38 ± 2.19) scores, (60.16 ± 6.24) scores vs. (51.29 ± 5.52) scores, the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Electromyography biofeedback therapy combined with oxiracetam has a significant effect in the treatment of elderly patients with VaD. It can significantly improve vascular endothelial function, regulate apoptosis factors, strengthen cognitive function, promote recovery of nerve function and daily living ability without increasing adverse reactions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the application effect of swallowing training and ice stimulation combined with electromyography biofeedback therapy in stroke patients with swallowing and coughing .Methods Seventy-nine stroke swallowing and coughing patients treated were collected and were randomly divided into two groups (39 cases in control group,40 cases in observation group ) according to the digital table .The control group was treated with normal swallowing training,while the observation group was treated with ice stimulation combined with electromyography biofeedback therapy.The clinical intervention effect and the VFSS results before and after the intervention were observed and compared .The complications of the two groups were statistically analyzed .Results The total effective rate of the observation group [90.00%(36/40)] was higher than that of the control group [71.79%(28/39),χ2 =4.255,P=0.039].After eight-week intervention,the VFSS score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(t=12.173,P=0.000);and the incidence rate of complications of the observation group [7.50%(3/40)] was lower than that of the control group [25.64%(10/39),χ2 =4.727,P=0.030].Conclusion Swallowing training and ice stimulation combined with electromyography biofeedback therapy can significantly improve the swallowing function of stroke patients with swallowing and coughing ,and it is safe .

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To compare the effects of intra-anal biofeedback (BF) and intra-anal electrical stimulation (ES) on pelvic floor muscles (PFMs) activity, nocturnal bladder capacity, and frequency of wet night episodes in children with refractory primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE). METHODS: Ninety children of both sexes aged 8–12 years with refractory PMNE participated in this study. They were randomly assigned to 3 groups of equal number: control group (CON) that underwent behavioral therapy and PFM training, and 2 study groups (BF and ES) that underwent the same program in addition to intra-anal BF training and intra-anal ES, respectively. PFMs activity was assessed using electromyography, nocturnal bladder capacity was evaluated by measuring the first morning voided volume, and a nocturnal enuresis diary was used for documenting wet night episodes before treatment and after 3 months of treatment. RESULTS: After training, all groups showed statistically significant improvements in all measured outcomes compared to their pretreatment findings. The ES group showed significantly greater improvements in all measured outcomes than the CON and BF groups. CONCLUSIONS: Both intra-anal BF training and ES combined with behavioral therapy and PFMs training were effective in the treatment of PMNE, with intra-anal ES being superior to BF training.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the efficacy of electromyographic biofeedback therapy (EMGBFT) in treating dysphagia after stroke.Methods Patients diagnosed with dysphagia after stroke were recruited and randomly divided into a control group (n =22),an electrostimulation group (ES,n =25) and an EMGBFT group (n =23).The control group received conventional treatment,while the patients in the other groups additionally received Vitalstim ES or EMGBFT 5 times per week for 3 weeks.Before and after the trial,deglutition function was evaluated through surface electromyography (sEMG) and using a standardized swallowing assessment (SSA).Results After 3 weeks of treatment,the mean sEMG amplitude,deglutition duration and SSA score and improved significantly in comparison to the baseline in all three groups.All were also significantly better in the two treatment groups than in the control group.Importantly,the mean sEMG amplitude,deglutition duration and SSA score were all significantly better in the EMGBFT group than in the ES group.Conclusion EMGBFT can promote better deglutition among patients with dysphagia after stroke more effectively than ES or conventional treatment.

@#Objective To explore the effect of surface electromyography biofeedback combined with the routine comprehensive rehabilitation treatment on walking ability of stroke patients with hemiplegia. Methods 80 stroke patients with hemiplegia were randomly divided into control group (n=40) and treatment group (n=40). All the patients received routine comprehensive rehabilitation treatment. The treatment group received electromyography biofeedback electrostimulation in addition. Fugl-Meyer Assessment was used to assess motor and balance function; active range of movement of ankle joint, the integrated electromyogram (iEMG) of isometric contraction of anterior tibialis muscle under maximum ankle dorsiflexion and Holden walking function were determined before and 8 weeks after treatment. Results 8 weeks after treatment, the scores of motor and balance function, the active range of movement of ankle, the iEMG, and Holden walking function significantly improved in both groups (P<0.001), and improved more in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion The electromyography biofeedback combined with routine comprehensive rehabilitation treatment can improve ankle motion control ability and walking ability of stroke patients with hemiplegia.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To study the clinical efficacy of electromyography biofeedback on dystonia after hepatolenticular degeneration.Methods 40 patients with dystonia after hepatolenticular degeneration were divided into treatment group (n=20) and control group (n=20).All patients were treated with copper-cleaning, clonazepam and benzhexol hydrochloride etc., and acupuncture. The treatment group wastreated with electromyographic biofeedback in addition. They were assessed with modified Ashworth scale, modified Barthel index, and ankledorsiflexion active range of motion. Results The lower extremities function of all patients improved after treatment (P<0.05) and thetreatment group improved more than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Electromyography biofeedback is more effective to improvethe lower extremities function and activity of daily living in patients with hepatolenticular degeneration following dystonia.

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of electromyography-triggered neuromuscular stimulation on rehabilitation of hemiplegia patient.Methods20 stroke patients following hemiplegia were treated with electromyography-triggered neuromuscular stimulation on base of routine physical therapy, occupational therapy. Myoelectricity value, active range of motion (AROM) of wrist dorsiflexion, and Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA) of upper extremity were assessed before and after the treatment.ResultsThe value of myoelectricity, AROM of wrist dorsiflexion, and FMA of upper extremity have significant statistical improvement (P<0.05) after the treatment.ConclusionElectromyography-triggered neuromuscular stimulation has positive effect on recovery of hemiplegic upper extremity.

@#ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of electromyography biofeedback on motor function in children with spastic hemiplegia. Methods40 children with spastic hemiplegia were divided into control group (n=20) and treatment group (n=20). Both groups received comprehensive rehabilitation treatment. The treatment group received electromyography biofeedback in addition. They were assessed with Gross Motor Functional Measure (GMFM-88) in D and E items before and after treatment. ResultsThe scores of GMFM-88 in both D and E items were significantly different (P<0.01) before and after treatment in both groups, and significantly different between the treatment group and control group (P<0.05) after treatment. ConclusionElectromyography biofeedback can improve the motor capacity in children with spastic hemiplegia.
