ABSTRACT

Objective: To know the general aspects of Venezuelan immigrants' life in shelters, with a focus on food, access to health services, and main factors that motivated immigration to Brazil. Methods: This is a qualitative-exploratory study, carried out in the second semester of 2019, using 22 semi-structured interviews, with the participation of immigrants sheltered in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. The content analysis technique was used for data analysis, with four thematic categories emerging: Living in the shelter, Food at the shelter, Health at the shelter, and Choice of Brazil as a destination. Results: Despite the impasses, there are feelings of gratitude for living in Brazil. Living in the shelter is bad and difficult, as the environment in the tents is warm, small, and with little privacy, but they emphasize that it is better than living on the streets. As for the food at the shelter, nutritional support is satisfactory, with the provision of three balanced meals daily, although sometimes it is insufficient. Participants are satisfied with interdisciplinary health care and medication distribution; however, they complain that access to health services is limited. The choice of Brazil to immigrate was due to its economic position in South America and, therefore, they thought they would have a better chance of employability, as well as access to education, health, and, due to the geographical proximity to their country. Conclusion: The study allowed knowing the main reasons that led the participants to choose Brazil as a destination, in addition to the general aspects of life in shelters, focusing on health and food.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to review the literature on intervention studies for abused children and adolescent in residential facilities in South Korea (ACARF-K). The goal was to understand the problems they experience, to evaluate the content and effectiveness of interventions applied to them, and to develop evidence-based nursing intervention programs. METHODS: We used four electronic databases to search for relevant articles. 18 studies according to Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method to synthesize the literature. RESULTS: The ACARF-K experienced problems in biophysical, psychological, and sociocultural domains related to attachment impairment. Effective intervention strategies were building trust through empathy and fulfillment of needs, encouraging ACARF-K to express themselves and helping them to clarify emotions in an unthreatening environment, and improving their self-concept through activities in which they experienced achievement. CONCLUSION: Interventions are needed to help restore attachment damage among ACARF-K. The interventions in this study utilized emotional, cognitive, relational, and behavioral therapeutic tools to improve their psychological and social capacities. Future intervention programs for ACARF-K should include these key elements.

ABSTRACT

Resultados: O valor cut-off foi 50 mmHg.

Background: Pulse pressure (PP) is the difference between the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure. In the acute coronary syndrome (ACS), PP at the admission is potentially related to the prognosis. Objective: Evaluating the PP prognosis impact at the hospital admission due to ACS. Methods: The study featured 8152 patients, included in the Portuguese National Record of ACS, calculating the PP at the hospital admission. Two groups were created under a cut-off PP value from which the presence of intra-hospital adverse events [death, reinfarction, bleeding, heart failure (HF)] is more significant. Then, the occurrence of adverse events and the coronary disease seriousness were evaluated. Results: The cut-off value was 50 mmHg. Group 1 (PP ≥50 mmHg) featured 5459 (67.0%) patients, being significantly older(67.0±13.0 years vs. 63.0±14.0 years; p<0.001) with more hypertension (75.0% vs. 59.4%; p<0.001), diabetes (33.0% vs. 23.1%;p<0.001), and multiarterial disease (56.1% vs. 51.9%). PP values <50 mmHg (Group 2) are related to a higher rate of adverseevents – a combination of death, reinfarction, bleeding and HF (56.2% vs. 47.0%; p<0.001). PP <50 mmHg was independente predictor of HF (OR 1.3 CI95% 1.1-1.4) and of the combination of events (OR 1.2 CI95% 1.1-1.4). Conclusion: Despite higher PP values being significantly related to worst cardiovascular risk profile, lower PP values were more associated to intra-hospital adverse events.
