ABSTRACT

Introduction: This study consisted in the development of a natural passion fruit-pineapple drink, taking advantage of the exocarp, mesocarp and endocarp of the passion fruit in the process as stabilizer and nutritive enrichment of the drink, thus turning it into a nutraceutical product. The mesocarp of the passion fruit can be used for the macronutrients and micronutrients it contains, for its pigments, and for the content of various nutrients with therapeutic properties. Material and methods: To achieve this objective, special pulps treated with biomolecules were prepared that allow the disaggregation of the plant material of which the fruits are composed, leaving all the nutrients it contains available. Result: As a result of this process, a stable juice was obtained in its turbidity with a fairly accentuated color and smell, related to the fruits that were used in the research. In addition, a juice was obtained where the nutrients and bioactive molecules trapped in the mesocarp and in the pericarp of the fruit are now available for immediate absorption in the human body. In conclusion, the product treated with a biocatalyst presented greater stability and higher nutraceutical properties than the juice without this treatment

ABSTRACT

Biodiesel is a clean and cyclical energy resource that is derived from animal and/or vegetable fat. As it blends well with petrodiesel, biodiesel is added to Brazilian commercial diesel. The main raw materials used to produce biodiesel in Brazil include soybean, corn, and sunflower oils. However, these are also used for human consumption and hence, have a high market value. Therefore, pinhão manso oil, which exhibits high productivity at low cost, is a promising alternative. However, the high acidity index of this oil results in a low transesterification yield and the produced biofuel does not meet the requirements imposed by the ANP. Thus, this study intends to demonstrate that a large part of the free fatty acids in pinion oil are present in the seed endocarp. For the development of the project, the oil was extracted by hot solvent, using the soxhlet equipment and the hexane solvent, to determine the acidity index, the titration technique was used, the titrant used was sodium hydroxide. So the acidity index of the oil extracted from the seed with its shell is 10.9 mgKOH/g, while the lipid obtained without the shell exhibits a value of 0.95 mgKOH/g, proving the influence of the endocarp.

ABSTRACT

We conducted two experiments to evaluate the growth of mango (Mangifera indica L., CV Coquinho) rootstock in different substrates and determine the optimal concentration of poultry litter amendments to the soil in combination with seeds with or without an endocarp endocarp. The following factors were studied in the first experiment: substrate source: soil, soil + poultry litter (at 25%) and a commercial substrate. In the second experiment, we studied poultry litter amendments at 0% (just soil), 20% and 40%. Both experiments evaluated the presence or absence of the seed endocarp on: plant height, stem diameter (tree base) and leaf count at 60, 75, 90, 105 and 120 days after sowing (DAS). After conducting field measurements, we evaluated fresh shoot weight (FW) and then dry shoot weight (DW) after drying at 65°C. No significant differences among the substrate sources or concentrations of poultry litter amendments relative to rootstock development. However, rootstock produced from seeds with no endocarps outperformed all other treatments.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect factors and rules of the different crushing and sieving methods on the compounds contents of Euodiae Fructus (EF), and to propose an optimized crushing and sieving method which can reflect the sampling representativeness and reduce errors. Methods The bioactive compounds such as chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, dehydroevodiamine, evodiamine, rutaecarpine, and evocarpine were selected as the evaluation markers. The effects of the different crushing and sieving conditions were evaluated by comparing the contents and analytical precisions of EF components under different conditions by HPLC. The influencing factors and the rules were discussed and the suitable crushing and sieving method was then proposed. Results The contents of six components in EF were negatively correlated with the proportions of the endocarps in powders. Most intraday and intermediate precisions of six bioactive compounds don't meet the standards using the current pharmacopoeia method with RSD > 5%. And when all powders passing through 2# sieve, the good analytical precision and repeatability were obtained with RSD < 2%. Conclusion The cellulose particles, such as endocarps, are the key factors during the crushing and sieving process of the herbs. The crushing and sieving method with all powders passing through 2# sieve not only ensures the sampling representativeness, but also solves the analytical precision and accuracy.
