ABSTRACT

Numerosas personalidades participaron en las luchas por la independencia cubana, siendo los más reconocidos hombres de la talla de Céspedes, Maceo y Gómez. Un gran número de ellos han ido quedando en el olvido con el paso de los años, a pesar de que dieron todo sin pedir nada a cambio. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo describir la figura del destacado Dr. Enrique Núñez de Villavicencio y Palomino, el cual constituye un paradigma para los profesionales de la salud cubanos, y ha permitido que la Historia de la Medicina cubana goce de un merecido prestigio, no sólo por el valioso legado que ha aportado como científico, sino también por su valor humano y por ser hijo fiel y amante defensor de su Patria. Se citaron un total de 21 referencias bibliográficas (AU).


Several personalities took part in the battles for Cuban independence, being the most recognized men of the stature of Céspedes, Maceo and Gomez. A large number of them have been left into anonymity over the years, even when they gave everything without asking anything in return. The present work is aimed at describing the figure of the prominent Doctor of Medicine Enrique Núñez de Villavicencio y Palomino, who is a paradigm for Cuban health professionals, and has allowed the History of Cuban Medicine to have the benefit of a well-deserved prestige, not only for the valuable contribution as a scientist, but also for his human values and for being a faithful son and defender of his motherland. A total of 21 bibliographical references were cited (AU).
