ABSTRACT

The analysis of firearm projectile entry holes in a medicolegal autopsy plays an important role in determining the manner and cause of death in cases involving firearms. The assessment can provide valuable information about the characteristics of the weapon used, the distance between the firearm and the victim, among other factors that contribute to the investigation. The ''comet tail" phenomenon observed in certain entry holes is rare and well known. Therefore, the objective of this article is to investigate the characteristics and mechanisms of production of the entrance orifices with this phenomenon, providing information about their formation, the possible implications, and medical-legal considerations to be taken into account for the diagnosis of this cause of death. A case report is presented highlighting the description of the ''comet tail" phenomenon in a real-life forensic investigation, providing valuable insight into its utility and potential to improve the accuracy of gunshot wound analysis. A review of scientific articles was carried out on entry holes in gunshot wounds with the "comet tail" phenomenon.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The damaging action of the bullet on the body plane is caused by the radial release of its kinetic energy, which forms a temporary cavity with a significantly larger diameter than the diameter of the projectile itself. Almost immediately, this cavity collapses and forms a permanent cavity or trajectory. Objective: To consider the firearm projectile wound trajectory, within the medicolegal curricula, in identifying atypical entrance wounds. Case Report: Report of two cases with wound trajectory and atypical entrance wound. Conclusions: The wound trajectory, if there is one, is one element that should be duly described for analyzing firearms wounds. Errors in the description of wounds or inadequate record of wounds during initial care impact on the subsequent medical expert analysis.

ABSTRACT

A one year study, from October 2007 to September 2008, was under taken in an attempt to study the pattern of electrical injury, the cause of death, manner of death, and diagnosis by histopathological examination. The study was compromised of 62 cases brought with history of electrical shock. Of the total 62 cases, males were 57(91.93%) and females were 5(8.06%) the mean age is 26 .27 year. The peak age of victims are 21-30 years age group 24 cases (38.71%].In the age group of 1n 0-10 years age group victims 3. Most of cases were due to low tension and domestic circuit. The patterns of electrical injuries are noted, such as entry, exit and both entry, exit wounds, flash burns and no electrical signs. The maximum victims showed dermo-epidermal degree of electrical burns .The histopathological examination is an important aid in diagnosis of electrical injuries and recommendations about preventive safety measures to reduce the mortality.
