ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the epidemiological characteristics of 45 year-old or older human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected persons and patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in Chengdu. Methods Epidemiological methods were used to analyze the data of 45 year-old or older patients with HIV/AIDS reported in Chengdu from 2018 to 2020. Results From 2018 to 2020, there were 219 newly reported cases aged 45 and above (35.67%) with HIV/AIDS in Chengdu, and the differences among them were statistically significant (χ2=6.45, P2=0.29, 0.22, 5.65, 1.92, 5.68, 1.12, 2.12, 0.39, P>0.05). 75.34% of the patients were infected through heterosexual transmission, and 50.68% were detected at treatment. The proportion of patients whose first CD4 cell test result was lower than 200/μL was relatively higher (43.84%). Nearly 81.28% of the patients received antiviral therapy, and the mortality reached 16.89%. From 2018 to 2020, the difference in transmission route, sample source, the first examination results of CD4 cells, antiviral treatment, or prognosis was not statistically significant (χ2=1.29, 3.59, 1.56, 0.01, 0.35, P>0.05). Fever (62.10%), fatigue (42.01%), and lymph node enlargement (28.77%) were main symptoms of the patients. 51.14% were detected in outpatient examinations, and most patients were accompanied by at least one opportunistic infection. Cytomegalovirus infection (56.16%) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection (36.53%) were main virus infection types. From 2018 to 2020, there was no significant difference in symptoms, visiting departments or combined infection (χ2=0.07-3.00, 3.00, 0.20-2.61, P>0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of HIV/AIDS is relatively severe in 45 year-old or older people in Chengdu. The constituent ratio and the incidence rate show an upward trend. Therefore, individualized prevention and control strategies should be formulated for 45 year-old or older people to effectively suppress the transmission of HIV/AIDS in the middle-aged and the elderly.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the pathology, epidemiology of severe pneumonia in Xicheng District of Beijing. Methods From 2014 to 2020, in 3 sentinel hospitals, collected and detected the respiratory tract specimens of the severe pneumonia patients. Multiple pathogens including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Legionella pneumophila, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Acinetobacter baumannii, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pneumocystis,Parainfluenza virus, Bocavirus, Rhinovirus, Coronavirus, Influenza, Human metapneumovirus, Adenovirus, Respiratory syncytial virus, Enterovirus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae were detected with PT-PCR. Analyze epidemic characteristics of the cases. Results Of the 1 247 respiratory samples cultured during the period from 2014 to 2020, 560(44.91%) are positive. The positive rates of virus(29.91%) is higher than Bacteria(20.21%). The top five pathogens were Acinetobacter baumannii(9.22%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(8.26%), Stenotrophomonas maltophilia(7.78%), Klebsiella Pneumoniae(6.74%) and Parainfluenza virus(6.58%). Conclusion There was a variety of pathogen in the severe pneumonia patients. Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Parainfluenza virus were the main pathogens of respiratory infections in Xicheng district of Beijing. It is necessary to strengthen the surveillance of the disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the epidemic characteristics of the hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) in four years before and after EV71 vaccine inoculation, and to provide a basis for better EV71 vaccination and prevention and control of HFMD. Methods The descriptive epidemiology method was used to analyze the monitoring data of HFMD from 2013 to 2020 and EV71 vaccination from 2017 to 2020 in Xinwu District of Wuxi City. Results A total of 9 589 HFMD cases including 104 severe cases (accounting for 1.08%) were reported in four years before EV71 vaccination, and the reported average annual incidence rate was 431.15/100 000. A total of 7 396 HFMD cases including 21 severe cases (accounting for 0.28%) were reported in four years after vaccine inoculation, and the reported average annual incidence rate was 325.28/100,000. Annual incidence rate and severe illness rate decreased significantly before and after vaccine inoculation. The HFMD incidences displayed two epidemic peaks, from May to June and from October to November. The three streets with the highest average annual incidence were Jiangxi, Meicun, and Shuofang. The HFMD cases were mainly children under 5 years old, and there were more men than women. A total of 394 samples were sent for examination from 2013-2020, and 231 were positive, with a total positive rate of 58.63%. There were significant changes in the etiological composition before and after vaccine inoculation. The composition of EV71 virus decreased significantly (χ2=69.70, P2=22.35, P<0. 05). From 2017 to 2020, a total of 12 472 people were inoculated with EV71 vaccine in Xinwu District of Wuxi City, with estimated annual vaccination rates of 3.78%, 10.96%, 8.40% and 7.63%, respectively. Conclusion There is no significant change in time, region and population distribution of HFMD before and after EV71 vaccination in Xinwu District of Wuxi City, but the annual incidence rate and severe illness rate show a decreasing trend, and the dominant intestinal pathogens have changed. It is suggested to strengthen the use of EV71 vaccine and the development of multivalent HFMD-related vaccine.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of the novel coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19), and to scientifically guide the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Hubei Province. Methods All COVID-19 cases reported online in Hubei Province as of March 31, 2020 were extracted from Hubei's Infectious Disease Information System. The epidemic curve, age and sex characteristics, and spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of the COVID-19 cases were analyzed. Results As of March 31, 2020, a total of 70 764 cases were reported in Hubei Province, including 49 195 confirmed cases. A total of 4 579 deaths occurred among the confirmed cases, and the reported case fatality rate was 6.47%. The peak of the onset of symptoms occurred from January 20 to February 14, 2020. The sex ratio of male to female of the confirmed cases was 0.99: 1, and most were 30-69 years old. The cases diagnosed before January 5 were mainly reported by Wuhan City. From January 6 to January 31, all counties and districts in the province reported that the incidence of confirmed COVID-19 cases began to rise, and about 50% counties reported that the morbidity rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases was over 10 cases per 100 000. The morbidity rate of COVID-19 cases rose rapidly between February 1-15, and then gradually reached its peak after February 16. Conclusion Wuhan City of Hubei Province first discovered and reported the COVID-19 outbreak. The onset of symptoms peaked in January 20 to February 14, and the 30-69 years old group was the key population. Many measures such as restricting personnel movement, reducing contact, and strengthening health education played an important role in controlling the outbreak of COVID-19 in Hubei.

ABSTRACT

Objective To describe the epidemic of imported infectious diseases in China between 2013 and 2016, including the kinds of infectious diseases, affected provinces, source countries and the epidemiological characteristics, and provide scientific information for the prevention and control of imported infectious diseases. Methods Data of cases of imported infectious diseases in China from 2013 to 2016 were collected from national information reporting system of infectious diseases, Microsoft Excel 2010 and SPSS 18.0 were used to conduct data cleaning and analysis. Results From 2013 to 2016, a total of 16206 imported cases of infectious diseases were reported in China. Of all the cases, 83.12%(13471 cases) were malaria cases, followed by dengue fever (2628 cases,16.22%). The majority of the imported cases were males (14522 cases, 89.61%). Most cases were aged 20-50 years. Except Zika virus disease and yellow fever, which were mainly reported before and after spring festival, other imported infectious diseases mainly occurred in summer and autumn. The epidemic in affected provinces varied with the types of infectious diseases, and Yunnan reported the largest case number of imported infectious diseases, followed by Jiangsu, Guangxi and Guangdong. The imported cases were mainly from Asian countries, such as Burma, and African countries, such as Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Ghana, which also varied with the types of infectious diseases. Conclusions We should pay more attention to imported infectious diseases and strengthen the prevention and control measures in our country. In order to reduce the incidence of imported infectious diseases, the health education should be enforced for persons who plan to travel abroad and the active surveillance should be strengthened for returned travelers.
