ABSTRACT

An 18-year-old man born with aphallia had undergone phallic reconstruction in childhood followed by total urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosal graft and groin-based pedicle (Singapore) flap urethroplasty at 13 years of age. The patient presented with obstructive voiding symptoms lasting 6 months followed by acute urinary retention. The results of a voiding cystourethrogram showed a filling defect in the distal urethra that had been reconstructed by use of the skin flap. On urethroscopy, a 3 cmx2 cm sized tricholithobezoar was seen in the distal urethra. Pneumatic lithotripsy followed by bulbar urethrolithotomy was performed in the same operation to extract the bezoar. The remaining hairs were mechanically epilated. The patient has been doing well for 6 months of follow-up.

ABSTRACT

Pilonidal sinus (PS) is one of follicular occlusion tetrad, and this is a chronic inflammatory disease that's characterized by a sinus or cyst with entrapped hair in the midline of the sacral region. The exact pathogenesis of PS remains unknown, but hair insertion may be the essential cause of the disease. PS is usually treated by surgical excision, marsupialization or incision and curettage. However, these surgical options often exhibit high recurrence rate, and especially for hirsute patients. Laser epilation has recently been recommended as an effective postoperative adjunctive therapy for PS and this treatment may reduce recurrence of PS. We report here on a 37-year-old male patient with PS, and the PS was treated by surgical excision and postoperative intense pulsed light (IPL) epilation.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the functional and cosmetic results of trichiasis treatment between the argon laser epilation(Group A) and tarsotomy(Group B). METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with diffuse lower lid trichiasis, whose post-treatment follow-up periods were longer than 3 months, were reviewed retrospectively. Functionally, 14 of 16 patients(89.6%) in group A were satisfied, whereas 9 of 11 patients(84.0%) were in group B. And cosmetically, 10 of 16 patients(62.9%) in group A were satisfied, whereas 8 of 11 patients(79.0%) were in group B. The functional results were similar between the two groups(p>0.05), but the cosmetic results were better in group B than in group A(p<0.05) CONCLUSIONS: The inferior tarsotomy appears to be an effective surgical procedure in patients with diffuse lower lid trichiasis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To summarize 380 cases of the laser hair removal experience. Methods Using 800nm's wavelength of wide 30ms diode laser hair removal machine, different energy of selection and the time interval were different according to the different positions such as: the lowest energy 19J/cm 2 of hairline was selected and treated once at the interval of 3 - 4W with increasing 1-2J/cm 2 every time, as a result of 3 -5 times had been taken for cure. For legs, the lowest dose was 36 J/cm 2 . The highest energy achieved at 25J / cm 2 with interval 7 weeks, and it needed to increase 2-3J/cm 2 every times, and a total of 3 to 5 times were used for the treatment. After treatment each time, no special care was needed. Results The pati ents were followed up for more than half a year to 1 year. Cure rate was 95 %. Thereinto 20 persons appeared several spots of pigmentations after treatment, and those disappeared within 2 to 4 months. Only 2 persons with dark color of the skin still had slight pigmentation after 1 year. Conclusion Hairs treated many times by laser show regeneration delay and become thin in quality in the newborn hairs with lighting in color. The different energy is chosen for the treatment according to the different hair position that finally achieves permanent hair removal.
