ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: Hand size is part of the anthropometric parameters that are assessed in swimmers to select elite athletes, as certain anthropometric relationships involving hand measurements are significantly correlated with sports performance in various swimming disciplines. The authors present the results of the anthropometric study carried out on the hands of 15 elite male Italian swimmers from to the Italian national open water swimming team. All swimmers participated at least once in World Cup and Absolute Italian Championships, winning at least one medal in their sporting career. In particular, the sample includes a medallist at the World Championships, a winner of the World Cup ultra swim marathon circuit and medallists at the European Championships. The sample consisted of 15 elite male swimmers with a mean age of 28.93 years. The following anthropometric measurements were taken on each athlete: Stature; weight; seven dimensions on each hand: hand length; hand breadth metacarpal; palm length; middle finger length; index finger length; thumb distance; and the distance from the thumb root to first flexure line of the index finger - trigger length. The size of the hands is an important factor in the swimmer's propulsion and push as a larger hand allows for greater support in the water and consequently generates more resistance. The anthropometric characteristics of the hands of Italian swimmers are missing from the anthropometric data already reported in the literature and can be used to make comparisons with elite athletes from other nations. Furthermore, anthropometric measurements could be used as predictors to estimate the swimmers' chance of success.

ABSTRACT

The EU is a joint political and economic community organization of many countries. The formulation and implementation of its health strategy need to take into account the differences in the development level of public health among its member countries. Since 2003, the EU has completed the implementation of the third-generation health strategy and launched the fourth-generation health strategy in June 2021. Compared with previous generations of health strategies, EU4Health not only includes targeted measures to cope with COVID-19, but also analyzes the current health challenges in the EU, pointing out the direction for the future development of health in the EU. By introducing the basic health situation of the EU, sorting out the development process, content, and strategic indicators of the EU health strategy, and analyzing the implementation characteristics of EU4Health in the EU, this article aims to provide inspiration for the implementation and further improvement of the “Healthy China” strategy.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction The Acute Leukemia-European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (AL-EBMT) risk score was recently developed and validated by Shouval et al. Objective To assess the ability of this score in predicting the 2-year overall survival (OS-2), leukemia-free survival (LFS-2) and transplant-related mortality (TRM) in acute leukemia (AL) adult patients undergoing a first allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) at a transplant center in Brazil. Methods In this prospective, cohort study, we used the formula published by Shouval et al. to calculate the AL-EBMT score and stratify patients into three risk categories. Results A total of 79 patients transplanted between 2008 and 2018 were analyzed. The median age was 38 years. Acute myeloid leukemia was the most common diagnosis (68%). Almost a quarter of the cases were at an advanced stage. All hematopoietic stem cell transplantations (HSCTs) were human leukocyte antigen-matched (HLA-matched) and the majority used familial donors (77%). Myeloablative conditioning was used in 92% of the cases. Stratification according to the AL-EBMT score into low-, intermediate- and high-risk groups yielded the following results: 40%, 12% and 47% of the cases, respectively. The high scoring group was associated with a hazard ratio of 2.1 (p= 0.007), 2.1 (p= 0.009) and 2.47 (p= 0.01) for the 2-year OS, LFS and TRM, respectively. Conclusion This study supports the ability of the AL-EBMT score to reasonably predict the 2-year post-transplant OS, LFS and TRM and to discriminate between risk categories in adult patients with AL, thus confirming its usefulness in clinical decision-making in this setting. Larger, multicenter studies may further help confirm these findings.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#Recent GWAS largely conducted in European populations have successfully identified multiple genetic risk variants associated with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). However, the effects conferred by these variants in the Pakistani population have not yet been fully elucidated. The objective of this study was to examine European GWAS- identified T2DM risk variants in the Pakistani Pashtun population to better understand the shared genetic basis of T2DM in the European and Pakistani cohorts.@*Methodology@#A total of 100 T2DM patients and 100 healthy volunteers of Pashtun ethnicity were enrolled in this study. Both groups were genotyped for 8 selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using the Sequenom MassARRAY® platform. The association between selected SNPs and T2DM was determined by using appropriate statistical tests.@*Results@#Of the 8 studied SNPs, 5 SNPs, SLC30A8/ rs13266634 (p=0.031, OR=2.13), IGF2BP2/ rs4402960 (p=0.001, OR=3.01), KCNJ11/ rs5219 (p=0.042, OR=1.78), PPARG/ rs1801282 (p=0.042, OR=2.81) and TCF7L2/ rs7903146 (p=0.00006, 3.41) had a significant association with T2DM. SNP GLIS3/ rs7041847 (p=0.051, OR=2.01) showed no sufficient evidence of association. SNPs KCNQ1/ rs2237892 (p=0.140, OR=1.61) and HHEX/IDE/ s1111875 (p=0.112, OR=1.31) showed opposite allelic effects and were not validated for T2DM risk in the study population. Among the studied SNPs, TCF7L2/ rs7903146 showed the most significant association.@*Conclusion@#Our study finding indicates that selected genome-wide significant T2DM risk variants previously identified in European descent also increase the risk of developing T2DM in the Pakistani Pashtun population.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Efficiency of handball defensive systems in numerical equality and superiority: panorama of a european competition. PENSAR EN MOVIMIENTO: Revista de Ciencias del Ejercicio y la Salud, 20(1), 1-13. Actions taken during the defensive phase in handball can determine match results; therefore, analyzing this phase helps identify key aspects that can assist in team training and planning. The aim of this paper was to analyze the influence of numerical relations on closed and open defense systems in top level handball matches. Twelve matches of the European handball club championship were analyzed, which allowed us to identify the numerical relationship of the game (defensive superiority or equality) and quantify results (GO: goal; NG: non-goal; PP: loss of ball possession) and the sections of the court where offensive actions ended up. A chi-squared test was used for data analysis. Results showed similarities in terms of the attack's conclusion in numerical equality situations, when defense used closed systems (GO = 47.3%; NG = 33.6%; PP = 19.1%) and open systems (GO = 46.0%; NG = 34.3%; PP = 19.7%). For this situation, using closed systems results in losing ball possession further from the goal (9m- = 56.9%; 9m+ = 43.1%), when compared to open systems (9m- = 64.5%; 9m+ = 35.5%). In defensive numerical superiority, using open systems (GO = 28.6%; NG = 53.6%; PP = 17.9%), compared to closed systems (GO = 49.3%; NG = 29.6%; PP = 21.1%) gives more efficient results. In addition, sequences end further from the goal when open systems were used (9m- = 42.9%; 9m+ = 57.1%), compared to closed systems (9m- = 68.3%; 9m+ = 31.7%). It was concluded that the selection of the defensive system should be based on the team's game model and game relationships, especially in situations of numerical equality (more frequent). However, when in defensive numerical advantage, limiting the space and time for attackers to make decisions seems to be an effective strategy.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Biologic differences between the native rabbit Sylvilagus sp. (Lagomorpha: Leporidae) and the European rabbit (Oryctolagus sp.) are quite unknown among Latin-American rabbit-breeders, either since rabbit-breeding is scarcely exploited as compared to other species of domestic animals or because this subject is taught very unusually in the college education. This research is aimed at examining comparatively the differences between Sylvilagus sp. and Oryctolagus sp. rabbits regarding their biology, consumption, and business exploitation. To do so, a meta-analysis was carried out on different scientific works dealing with this topic, news, and interviews to consumers during the term 2000 to 2019. Morphological, physiological, and genetic-origin characteristics were considered as well as how they behave in relation to the environment. These characteristics were organized and analyzed to determine the potential similarities and differences between both genuses. As the family Leporidae includes three genuses in South America, then the genus Lepus sp. was included only in a genus comparative table. Significant biologic, genetic and reproductive differences between Sylvilagus sp. And Oryctolagus sp. were found but they can be unnoticed to the unexpert rabbit-breeders. Therefore, characteristics typical to each genus were highlighted to allow a practical identification. It was determined that the consumption of rabbit meat depends on the availability in the market.

ABSTRACT

Resumen (analítico) The objective of this paper was to analyze the construction of father-hood in adolescents who are in conflict with the law through an exploratory and qualitative study. Life stories were developed using the in-depth interview technique. The sample consisted of four adolescents in conflict with the law. Through interpretative content analysis, we obtained seven categories, including: emotional context of family origin, family functioning, witnessing family violence and the expression of masculinity by transgressing the law and using drugs. Paternity allows these young fathers to reflect on their own experiences during childhood and develop a paternal role during their transition process out of detention. The main role they assume in their paternity is that of provider, but they also make space to satisfy the affective needs of their children.

ABSTRACT

Asignación a categorías ≥ 75mL/min/1,73 m2 o menor: buena concordancia.

Introduction: GFR is a kidney function indicator. The estimation of the GFR (eGFR) is carried out by equations. Most of them are applicable with in an age range. Discrepancies between the values are found when crossing a limit of age. CKD-EPI overestimates GFR in young adults; FAS overestimates it for low creatininemias. To minimize these limitations, the European Kidney Function Consortium proposed the EKFC equation that combines design features of FAS and CKD-EPI. Objective: The performance of EKFC vs. CKD-EPI and FAS in young people was evaluated: differences in eGFR and agreement in the allocation to GFR categories were found. Methods: Analytical study approved by the Ethics Committee. Sample: 157 volunteer students, 18-37 years old. Creatininemia: kinetic Jaffé method traceable to Isotopic Dilution Mass Spectroscopy. Program: MedCalc. Results: EKFC: eGFR lower than CKD-EPI and FAS, total and by sex. Means of the differences (mL/min/1.73m2): total (CKD-EPI - EKFC) = 10.42; 18-20 years = 11.91; 21-30 years = 11.10; 31-37 years = 8.96 // (FAS-EKFC) total = 2.79; FAS≤ 110 mL/min/1.73m2 and higher: 1.1 and 9.0 respectively. Allocation to G categories: lower kappa EKFC vs. CKD-EPI than vs. FAS. Recategorization: 13.4% in G1 by CKD-EPI categorized G2 by EKFC; 0.6% compared to FAS, in the same sense. Allocation to categories ≥75mL/min/1.73 m2 or less: good agreement. Conclusions: In the sample, EKFC meets the objectives of its design. The overestimation of eGFR by CKD-EPI in young adults decreased, even more around 18 years of age, and corrected that of FAS for low creatininemias. It is important to develop GFR estimators based on creatininemia that cover the entire range of ages and renal function status.

ABSTRACT

Australia and EU Member States have been the important components of global herbal medicine market. The legal use of Chinese Materia Medica in Australia and EU Member States is closely related to the internationalization of Chinese medicine, therefore it is of great significance to conduct a comparative study on their herbal medicine registration regulations. By summarizing the regulations issued by Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA), and comparing related definitions and the regulations on quality management and medicinal product registration, we found that the method No.3 of L (A) 3 and the traditional-use registration are more conductive to bringing Chinese patent medicines to market in Australia and the EU Member States.

ABSTRACT

Europe occupies an important position in the world herbal medicine market. The registration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in EU is of great significance to the internationalization of TCM. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has designed a relatively complete management system and regulatory guidelines for the registration and supervision of herbal medicinal products. The promulgation of the DIRECTIVE 2004/24/EC (2004 / 24 / EC) indicates that TCM could enter the EU market through simplified registration. Based on the registration conditions, registration authority and document guideines of Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (THMPs) in EU, this paper analyzes the application requirements of simple registration of traditional herbal products in EU, and provides suggestions for the simplified registration of TCM in EU according to the registration requirements of medicinal history, quality requirements and application data format.
