ABSTRACT

This work focused on the biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by silver nitrate using Celosia cristata leaves extract in four different solvents namely petroleum ether, acetone, methanol, and water. Silver nitrate and leaves extract were used as a precursor and capping reducing agent respectively. Biogenic AgNPs were characterized and identified by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). Disc diffusion method was used for antibacterial activity of AgNPs and effective antibacterial activity was shown against IS-3, IS-4, IS-6, and IS-7 as compared to a positive control (ciprofloxacin).

ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of hydrofluoric acid (HF) concentration and previous heat treatment (PHT) on the surface morphology and micro-shear bond strength (mSBS) of a lithium disilicate glass ceramic (EMX) to resin cement. One hundred four EMX specimens were randomly assigned to two groups (n=52) according to the HF concentration: 5% and 10%. A new random distribution was made according to the PHTs (n=13): control (no PHT); previously heated HF (70 °C); previously heated EMX surface (85 °C); the combination of heated HF + heated EMX surface. The etching time was set at 20 s. All EMX blocks were silanated and received a thin layer of an unfilled resin. Five resin cement cylinders were made on each EMX surface using Tygon tubes as matrices, and then stored for 24 h at 37 °C. One random etched EMX sample from each group was analyzed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The data were subjected to two-way ANOVA and multiple comparisons were performed using the Tukey post hoc test (a=0.05). For the control groups, 5% HF showed statistically lower mSBS values when compared to 10% HF (p<0.05). PHT increased the mSBS values for 5% HF, yielding statistically similar results to non-PHT 10% HF (p<0.05). FE-SEM images showed increased glassy matrix removal when PHT was applied to HF 5%, but not to the same degree as for 10% HF. PHT has the potential to improve the bond strength of 5% HF concentration on lithium disilicate glass ceramic.


Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos das concentrações de ácido fluorídrico (AF) e do prévio tratamento térmico (PTT) na morfologia da superfície e resistência de união ao microcisalhamento (mRUM) de uma cerâmica vítrea de dissilicato de lítio (EMX) ao cimento resinoso. Cento e quatro espécimes de EMX foram aleatoriamente distribuídos em dois grupos (n=52) de acordo com a concentração do AF: 5% e 10%. Os espécimes foram novamente distribuídos de forma aleatória de acordo com o PTT (n=13): controle (sem PTT); AF previamente aquecido (70 °C); superfície do EMX previamente aquecida (85 °C); combinação entre AF e EMX aquecidos. O tempo de condicionamento foi fixado em 20 s. Todos os espécimes de EMX foram silanizados e receberam a aplicação de uma fina camada de um adesivo sem carga. Cinco cilindros de cimento resinoso foram confeccionados usando tubos Tygon como matrizes e então armazenados por 24 h a 37 °C. Uma amostra condicionada de cada grupo foi aleatoriamente selecionada e analisada em um microscópio eletrônico de varredura em emissão de campo (MEVEC). Os dados foram submetidos ao teste ANOVA de dois fatores e múltiplas comparações foram feitas pelo teste de Tukey (a=0.05). Para os grupos controle, AF 5% mostrou valor de mRUM estatisticamente menor do que AF 10% (p<0.05). PTT aumentou os valores de mRUM para o AF 5%, proporcionando resultados estatisticamente similares ao grupo AF 10% controle (p<0.05). MEVEC mostrou um aumento na remoção da matriz vítrea quando o PTT foi aplicado ao grupo AF 5%, no entanto esse efeito não foi visto no grupo AF 10%. O PTT tem o potencial de melhorar a resistência de união do AF 5% na cerâmica vítrea reforçada por disilicato de lítio.

ABSTRACT

Here in this paper we have reported the extracellular biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by using filamentous fungi Penicillium sp. The Penicillium sp. was isolated from the soil sample collected from vegetable market in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The purified fungal culture was subjected for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles. The color change of the solution in the conical flask into dark brown suggests the formation of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). These Silver nanoparticles have been further characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometer which showed the absorption peak at 416nm which confirms the nanoparticles synthesis, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy showed proteins and functional groups which stabilizes the nanoparticles as capping agent , Xray diffraction (XRD) analysis determine the crystalline nature of silver nanoparticles and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis which showed the particle size was around 35 to 67 nm and. These biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles showed good antibacterial activity against the selected bacterial pathogens and also these nanoparticles enhanced the antibacterial property of Sparfloxacin and Ofloxacin.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of curing methods of adhesive resins and resin cements in the root canal. Crown portions of 32 single-rooted mandibular premolars were removed. Routine endodontic treatment was done, and 9 mm deep post spaces were prepared within root canals. No. 3 FRC Postec posts (Ivoclar-Vivadent AG, Liechtenstein) were cemented in the post spaces by self-(SC) or light-curing (LC) using two dual-cured adhesives (Adper Scotchbond multi-purpose plus and Exite DSC )and resin cements (RelyX ARC and Variolink II). They were assigned to 4 groups (n=8); R-SC, R-LC, V-SC, V-LC group. After stored in distilled water for 24 hours, each root was transversally sectioned with 1.5 mm thick and made three slices. The specimens were subjected to push-out test in a universal testing machine (EZ Test, Shimadzu Co., Japan) with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The data were analyzed with repeated ANOVA and one-way. ANOVA. Also the interface of post-resin cement and resin cement-canal wall of each group was observed under FE-SEM. When fiber posts were cemented into the root canal using total-etch adhesives, the bond strength and adaptation between post and root canal dentin was affected by curing method. Self-cure of adhesives and resin cements showed higher bond strength and closer adaptation than light-cure of them.

The fracture toughness test is believed as a clinically relevant method for assessing the fracture resistance of the dentinal restoratives. The objectives of this study were to measure the fracture toughness (K1C) and microtensile bond strength of dentin-resin composite interface and compare their relationship for their use in evaluation of the integrity of the dentin-resin bond. A minimum of six short-rod specimens for fracture toughness test and fifteen specimens for microtensile bond strength test was fabricated for each group of materials used. After all specimens storing for 24 hours in distilled water at 37degrees C, they were tensile-loaded with an EZ tester universal testing machin. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA and Tukey's test at the 95% confidence level, Pearson's coefficient was used to verify the correlation between the mean of fracture toughness and microtensile bond strength. FE-SEM was employed on fractured surface to describe the crack propagation. Fracture toughness value of Clearfil SE Bond (SE) was the highest, followed by Adper Single Bond 2 (SB), OptiBond Solo (OB), ONE-STEP PLUS (OS), ScotchBond Multi-purpose (SM) and there was significant difference between SE and other 4 groups (p 0.05). Microtensile bond strength of SE was the highest, followed by SB, OB, SM, OS and OS only showed significant lower value (p < 0.05). There was no correlation between fracture toughness and microtensile bond strength values. FE-SEM examination revealed that dentin bonding agent showed different film thickness and different failure pattern according to the film thickness. From the limited results of this study, it was noted that there was statistically no correlation between K1C and microTBS. We can conclude that for obtaining the reliability of bond strength test of dentin bonding agent, we must pay more attention to the test procedure and its profound scrutiny.

ABSTRACT

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Regardless of any restoration, most of case, we used in screw connection between abutment and implant. For this reason, implant screw loosening has been remained problem in restorative practices. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare surface of coated/plated screw with titanium and gold alloy screw and to evaluate physical property of coated/plated material after scratch test in FESEM investigation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: GoldTite, titanium screw provided by 3i (Implant Innovation, USA) and TorqTite, titanium screw by Steri-Oss (Nobel Biocare, USA) and gold screw, titanium screw by AVANA (Osstem Implant, korea) - were selected for this study. Each abutment screw surface was observed at 100 times, and then screw crest, root, and slope were done more detailed numerical value, at 1000 times with FESEM. A micro-diamond needle was also prepared for the scratch test. Each abutment screw was fixed, micro-diamond scratch the surface of head region was made at constant load and then was observed central region and periphery of fine trace through 1000 times with FESEM. RESULTS: The surface of GoldTite was smoother than that of other kinds of screw and had abundant ductility and malleability compared with titanium and gold screw. The scratch test also showed that teflon particles were exfoliated easily in screw coated with teflon. Titanium screw had a rough surface and low ductility. CONCLUSION: It was recommended that the clinical use of gold-plated screw would prevent a screw from loosening.
