ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore a simple and effective method to improve the facial shape coordination for patients.Methods:From May 2015 to May 2020, 36 female patients (aged 24-32 years, mean 26.8 years) who were required to change face shape were enrolled in Zhengzhou Mylike Medical Cosmetology Hospital to improve face shape by adjusting frontaI arch width combined with autologous high-density fat transplantation.Results:Thirty-three patients (91.7%) were satisfied (31 satisfied, 2 basically satisfied). Three patients were not satisfied with the filling effect, and two of them were satisfied after the second filling (3 months after operation). 35 of the 36 patients were satisfied, accounting for 97.2%, only 1 case was dissatisfied. No other compIications such as fat liquefaction were observed. The mean morphological surface index of patients was 90.2 before operation and 88.1 after operation, showing significant improvement.Conclusions:Autologous high density fat transplantation is a good method to adjust the coordination of the frontal arch.

ABSTRACT

Beauty indicates a specific proportion system. It comprises facial height, width, and symmetry. A beautiful and an attractive face or facial morphology, which is affected by many factors such as social, cultural, ethnic, racial, climate, gender, age, socio-economic, nutritional, and genetic is a subjective concept. We wanted to determine the facial morphology, golden ratio, and classify the face shape, in Turkish healthy adults. METHODSThis is a descriptive study conducted among two hundred twenty-eight (139 females; 89 males) subjects aged between 18 and 25 years. Physiognomic facial height, the width of face, face golden ratio, morphological facial height, facial index were measured. Based on the face index, the face shape was classified as hypereuryprosopic, euryprosopic, mesoprosopic, leptoprosopic, and hyperleptoprosopic. Also, the face shape was determined according to the golden ratio. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS Ver. 22. Chi-Square Test was used to determine the differences between gender and face measurements. A p value of <0.05 value was considered as significant.RESULTSOut of 228 subjects, face shape according to golden ratio was normal in 11 female subjects, short in 128 female subjects. Also, in males, the same parameter was normal in 10 subjects, short in 72, and long in 7 subjects. On the other hand, significant differences were found between the genders. Hypereuroprosopic face type was the least observed in males but not in females.CONCLUSİONSThe facial shape data may be valuable for evaluating various disorders and variations for plastic surgeons and orthodontists and other clinicians

ABSTRACT

The aging process is something that occurs naturally during the lifetime of the human being. It causes biological, psychological and social changes in the body. Anthropometry, which until the late nineteenth century was a common tool in clinical and taxonomic practices, has gained great importance as a public health measure. This methodology is also important in the evaluation of morbidities in individuals and their social practices. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate facial shape characteristics in the elderly, associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, based on two-dimensional images of the lateral and frontal views of the face. Analysis of discriminant function and cross validation presented significant differences (p<0.01), for sexual dimorphism in both views and the presence and/or absence of diabetes and hypertension (p<0.01). For the male sex, the highest classifications were related to the complete lateral and frontal views, in 75.2% and 81.2% of cases, respectively. In terms of the female sex, they referred to the frontal view without the orolabial region or jaw (71.4%). There was variation in the facial bilateral symmetry in the elderly, with the presence of fluctuating and directional asymmetry (p<0.01). Despite morphological variations associated with aging, it is possible to use geometric morphometrics techniques to observe characteristics in facial shape related to the presence of diabetes, hypertension, and the presence or absence of both diseases.


O processo de envelhecimento é algo que ocorre naturalmente durante a vida do ser humano. Isso causa mudanças biológicas, psicológicas e sociais no corpo. A antropometria, que até o final do século XIX foi uma ferramenta comum em práticas clínicas e taxonômicas, e ganhou uma grande importância como medidas de saúde pública. Esta metodologia também é importante na avaliação de morbidades nos indivíduos e suas práticas sociais. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar características da forma facial em idosos, associados a doenças crônicas como diabetes e hipertensão, com base em imagens bidimensionais das vistas lateral e frontal do rosto. A análise da função discriminante e da validação cruzada apresentou diferenças significativas (p <0,01), para o dimorfismo sexual em ambos os pontos de vista e a presença e/ou ausência de diabetes e hipertensão (p <0,01). Para o sexo masculino, as classificações mais elevadas foram relacionadas às vistas laterais e frontais completas, em 75,2% e 81,2% dos casos, respectivamente. Para o sexo feminino, os resultados para a vista visão frontal sem a região orelabial ou maxilar foi de 71,4%. Houve variação na simetria facial bilateral dos idosos, com presença de assimetria flutuante e direcional (p <0,01). Apesar das variações morfológicas associadas ao envelhecimento, através de técnicas de morfometria geométrica é possível observar uma característica na forma facial em relação à diabetes, hipertensão e presença ou ausência de ambas as doenças.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the types of face shape in the Turkish population. Knowledge on face shape is important in anthropology and for planning medical procedures such as in aesthetic, maxillofacial and orthodontic surgery. The study group consisted of 1003 healthy subjects (470 male, 533 female) aged 18­68 years. Mean height, weight and body mass index (BMI) were 1.74 m, 78.65 Kg, 25.80±3.50 kg/m2 and 1.62 m, 60.55 kg, 22.87±3.49 kg/m2 in males and females, respectively. Face length (FL; the distance from nasion to gnathion) and face width (FW; bizygomatic breadth) were measured, from which a Prosopic Index (PI) was determined using the following formula: (PI= FL/FW x 100). The types of face shape were classified according to Banister's classification Type I (hypereuryprosopic), Type II (euryprosopic), Type III (mesoprosopic), Type IV (leptoprosopic), Type V (hyperleptoprosopic) in both males and females. PI was 84.31 (FL: 12.07 cm; FW: 14.34 cm) in males and 85.25 (FL: 11.30 cm; FW: 13.28 cm) in females. In males and females Type I face shape was observed in 18.1 % and 15.6 %; Type II in 35.3 % and 34.3 %; Type III in 33.2 % and 34.3 %; Type IV in 8.7 % and 11.8 %; and Type V in 4.7 % and 3.9 %, respectively. The determination of types of face shape as presented in this study may be useful for aesthetic surgical procedures as well as medical and anthropological investigations.


El objetivo fue determinar los tipos de forma de la cara en la población turca. El conocimiento de la forma de la cara es importante en antropología y para la planificación de los procedimientos médicos como la cirugía estética, maxilofacial y ortodoncia. Se analizó un grupo de 1003 sujetos sanos (470 hombres y 533 mujeres), con edades entre 18 a 68 años. La talla, peso e índice de masa corporal (IMC) fueron 1,74 m, 78,65 kg, 25,80±3,50 kg/m2 y 1,62 m, 60,55 kg, 22,87±3,49 kg/m2 en hombres y mujeres, respectivamente. Se midió el índice prosopo (IP) y se determinó la longitud de la cara (LC: la distancia desde Nasion a Gnathion) y el ancho de la cara (ancho bicigomático: AC) utilizando las siguientes fórmulas: (IP = [LC/AC] x 100). Los tipos de forma de la cara se clasificaron de acuerdo a la clasificación de Banister [Tipo I (hipereuriprosopo), Tipo II (euriprosopo), tipo III (mesoprosopo), Tipo IV (leptoprosopo) y Tipo V (hiperleptoprosopo)], tanto en hombres como en mujeres. El IP fue de 84,31 (LC: 12,07 cm; AC: 14,34 cm) en los hombres y 85,25 (LC: 11,30 cm; AC: 13,28 cm) en las mujeres. En hombres y mujeres se observó la forma Tipo I en 18,1 % y 15,6 %; Tipo II en 35,3 % y 34,3 %; Tipo III en 33,2 % y 34,3 %; Tipo IV en 8,7 % y 11,8 %; y Tipo V en 4,7 % y 3,9 %, respectivamente. La determinación de los tipos de forma de la cara presentados en este estudio pueden ser útiles para los procedimientos quirúrgicos estéticos, así como para las investigaciones médicas y antropológicas.
