ABSTRACT

This theoretical essay presents the system theory as a mean to filter out the chaos in which family transitions occurs, by the use of images that summarize and disentangle its interactions. For this purpose, it was examined the foundations of systems theory, it was unraveled the basic transformations regarding individual cells and collective contexts and, finally, it was explained the most characteristics family transitions. The proposed reductionism losses are considered offset by the gains in clarity and objectivity that the illustrations provides for each process, facilitating their understanding, manipulation and association.

ABSTRACT

The concept of family transition both normative and non-normative, whether due to internal or to external factors presupposes the passage from one relatively stable situation to another relatively stable condition. What happens when the relative stability of the transitional stages withers away? What kind of interventions (social policies, personal social services, etc.) can be envisaged in a society that configures the family's transitions as an unbound morphogenesis of its relations? The family becomes an unceasing transition due to many factors, basically because societal morphogenesis makes the reflexive abilities of families increasingly problematic. The paper suggests that we move beyond the conditional and "muddling through" models of the past. We need to adopt a new model of analysis and intervention, called the ODG-system, which is relational and reflexive. It consists of developing the relational reflexivity of the family as a social system.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The goal of this article is to present a scientific literature revision about the relationship between parents and children in the divorce context, focusing on reactions, experiences, conceptions and feelings, particularly those of teenagers. First, we present a general revision on divorce studies, followed by researches that specifically associate adolescence and family transitions. Most of the studies highlight the importance of parental quality and maintenance of the relationship between parents and sons/daughters after separation. The repercussion that continuities and ruptures have on the relationship between parents and sons/daughters is discussed.
