O Lazer dos ferroviários em Rio Claro-SP e o controle da companhia paulista / The leisure of railway labourers in Rio Claro-SP and the control of the companhia paulista

Este artigo aborda dois pontos principais: i) as atividades de lazer dos trabalhadores da Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro em Rio Claro; ii) e a estratégia da empresa em prolongar o controle sobre seus funcionários até mesmo nos momentos de não trabalho, a partir da criação do Grêmio Recreativo da Paulista. A chegada dos trilhos e a instalação das oficinas da companhia ferroviária impulsionaram a formação da classe operária local, criando as bases para a emergência dos espaços de sociabilidade frequentados por esses trabalhadores. O desfrute do lazer pelos ferroviários, além de possibilitar o distanciamento momentâneo da extenuante rotina de trabalho, contribuía para o fortalecimento dos laços do grupo. A direção da Paulista, disposta a vigiar as ações de seus funcionários fora do universo fabril, empenhou-se em reger suas opções de lazer, fundando um clube social e recreativo destinado aos ferroviários.

This article addresses two main points: i) the leisure activities of the labourers of Companhia Paulista Railways in Rio Claro; ii) and the company's strategy to extend control over its employees even in non-work moments, since the creation of Grêmio Recreativo of Paulista. The arrival of the rails and the installation of the workshops of the railway company stimulated the formation of the local working class, creating the bases for the emergence of the spaces of sociability frequented by these labourers. The enjoyment of leisure by the railway labourers, besides allowing the temporary distance from the exhausting work routine, contributed to the strengthening of the group's ties. The management of Paulista, willing to oversee the actions of its employees outside the factory universe, committed itself to governing its leisure options, founding a social and recreational club for the railway labourers.

Uma viagem de trem: a atividade de trabalho dos inspetores ferroviários em diálogo com a ergologia / A train trip: rail inspectors' work activity in dialogue with ergology

Este artigo propõe a narrativa de uma história concreta de trabalho e as discussões teóricas que ela convoca, na perspectiva da ergologia. A história foi produzida durante uma pesquisa com um grupo de inspetores ferroviários de Minas Gerais. A partir da vivência de uma viagem de trem coloca-se em debate os diversos aspectos que compõem e atravessam a atividade de trabalho dos inspetores como a trama e a urdidura, a variáveis a gerir, os valores, a gestão do risco, o "uso de si", o "corpo-si", a hierarquia, o coletivo, a antecipação e o desenvolvimento do sujeito que trabalha.

This paper proposes a narrative of a specific work history and theoretical discussions that it summons, from the perspective of ergology. The story was produced during a survey with a group of railway inspectors of Minas Gerais, Brazil. From the experience of a train journey we discuss the various aspects that compose and traverse the inspectors' work activity, such as the warp and the weft, the managing of variables, the values, the risk management, the "use of oneself", the "body-self", the hierarchy, the collective, the anticipation and a development of the person who works.

Ressignificação existencial do pretérito e longevidade humana / Existential meaning of the past, and human longevity

Existem, atualmente, mais de 300 hipóteses relativas à caracterização, função e mecanismos do envelhecimento, possivelmente devido ao aumento de idosos no mundo. Embora se avente uma função social à velhice humana, as transformações da sociedade impuseram uma cultura de descarte, incluindo pessoas como os idosos. Tal exclusão, que se associa à tristeza, depressão e morte desse grupo, é contraditória ao aumento do tempo de vida dos idosos constatado atualmente. O presente trabalho tentou determinar os aspectos ambientais envolvidos na longevidade usando uma técnica de metodologia qualitativa denominada grounded theory (ou teoria fundamentada nos dados) em dados fornecidos por ex-ferroviários longevos. Constatou-se que as representações dos ex-ferroviários confluem para a categoria central: desolação pelo aniquilamento da vida e do ambiente, no presente, devido à continuada negligência do Estado e da Sociedade na promoção e preservação das coisas boas para a vida que havia no passado. Observou-se ainda que, paralelamente à hipervalorização genérica das coisas do passado, há constatação recente de que suas existências fizeram parte da epopeia que promoveu o desenvolvimento econômico e social do interior paulista e possibilitou uma ressignificação existencial do passado, sugerindo ser um potente mecanismo de defesa que culmina em longevidade. Tal achado se insere na hipótese de que a função da longevidade seria a de preservar um contingente social com conhecimentos de um modo de vida que deu certo por ser socialmente vantajoso.

Nowadays there are more than 300 hypotheses to explain ageing characteristics, function and mechanisms, possibly due to the large and increasing number of old people in the world. Though having a social function attributed to elders, transformations - under way currently in society - have imposed a discard culture, including old people. This is an authentic exclusion that is frequently associated with sadness, depression and death in its group, contradicting the alleged idea that older people increase life-time (as has been observed in recent years). This manuscript has the aim of determining environmental aspects involved with longevity; it thus uses "grounded theory", a technique of qualitative research method, operating on data provided by elderly former railroad workers. It was observed that former railroad worker's social representations convey to a central category: desolation from perceiving life and environmental annihilation due to continuous State and Society negligence to promote and preserve good things - that existed in the past. We can also observe that, in a parallel way, by hyper valorizing past things, they recognize their existence as part of an epic process that promoted the São Paulo state countryside economic and social development, with an existential meaning to the past, which suggests to be a strong defense mechanism that contributes to longevity. This finding can be included in the hypothesis that the function of longevity would be to preserve a social contingent with knowledge about a way of life that was successful because it was socially advantageous.
