ABSTRACT

Fibroepithelioma of Pinkus is generally accepted as a low-risk variant of basal cell carcinoma. A 66-year-old man was presented with a solitary dark red nodule with superficial erosion on his right groin. It tended to bleed, but was otherwise asymptomatic. Histopathologically, the tumor was composed of long, thin, branching and anastomosing strands of basaloid cells, which extends from the epidermis into the fibromucinous stroma. Basaloid tumor cells were palisaded at the periphery of the strands, and small buds were seen projecting from the epithelial strands. Significant amounts of melanin pigment were deposited in the papillary and reticular dermis, and the stroma between the tumor cords and also inside the tumor cells. The lesion was completely excised with clear margin. We report a case of pigmented fibroepithelioma of Pinkus with review of the literature in this communication.

ABSTRACT

Fibroepithelioma of Pinkus (FEP) is an uncommon variant of basal cell carcinoma and this typically appears as single or multiple nodular lesions on the lower back of the elderly. We report here on a case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with an asymptomatic erythematous sessile plaque on the lateral side of her right thigh, and she'd had this lesion for 8 years. Histologic examination showed anastomosing strands of basaloid cells extending from the overlying epidermis into the dermis. The tumor cells with large, oval nuclei and relatively little cytoplasms were grouped in a palisade pattern at the periphery of the tumor mass. The tumor was completely excised with a clear resection margin. The patient showed no recurrence for 10 months. For an elderly patient with a long-standing nodule found anywhere on the body, performing a skin biopsy should be considered to exclude malignancy, including FEP.

ABSTRACT

Fibroepithelioma is a rare subtype of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) with a distinct growth pattern. We report a case of a 68 year-old man who presented with a 1.7x1.0x0.5 cm sized pedunculated mass on his left axilla. Histopathologic examination revealed two distinct patterns at the same time; a large nodular mass with a peripheral palisading pattern and a small locus of strands in a fenestrated fashion. In higher magnification, there were long, thin, branching, and anastomosing epithelial strands embedded in a fibrous stroma. Small buds were seen projecting from the epithelial strands, with many of the strands showing connections to the surface epidermis. The tumor was totally excised, and the patient has shown no evidence of recurrence for 4 months. This case shows an example of atypical fibroepithelioma with two distinct histopathologic types.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of fibroepithelioma in a 67 year-old male patient. He was admitted e,t Dey4. of Orthopedic Gurgery due to the trochanteric fracture of the femur. And he was eonsulted to our Department for evaluating the deformity of the left foot. Once he had worked as a miner, he have been suffered from multiple injuries of the left f t, The leeions beeame purulent discharge and crust. He found verrucous lesions at the site. On his visit, we found multiple dark brown verrucoua papules at dorsum of the left foot, d we psrformed the skin biopsy of the lesions. Histopathologic findinga showed a proliferation of long, brsnching and anastomosing skin of loid cells embedded within an edematous fibrous stroma.
