ABSTRACT

The financial world today is so much influenced by technology and is as such very innovative with a lot of financial products. Hence it becomes imperative for all to be financially literate. It is very important to be cautious in all our financial dealings and management of financial resources both at individual and at organization level. This paper focuses on the level of financial literacy in Kodagu district of Karnataka. The sample consisted of people with graduation as the minimum qualification. The study reveals that the level of financial literacy (knowledge, behavior and attitude towards financial matters) among the graduate population is quite satisfactory, though there is a scope for more people to adopt or use various financial products and services. Also the sample respondents were found to exercise caution when taking financial decisions.

ABSTRACT

A presente pesquisa buscou analisar o comportamento financeiro de idosos frequentadores do Programa Universidade da Terceira Idade (U3I) da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia de Presidente Prudente/SP. Foram realizadas 35 entrevistas estruturadas. As informações obtidas pelas entrevistas foram submetidas a uma Análise de Conteúdo. A poupança é a modalidade de investimento mais recorrente nesse grupo. O gasto com familiares foi apontado como principal motivo para contração de dívidas. Apesar dos intensos estímulos do mercado voltado a terceira idade, o grupo analisado mostrou que mantém um ritmo prudente de consumo, privilegiando investimentos de renda fixa em detrimento do endividamento e contração de empréstimos.(AU)


The present research seeks to analyze the financial behavior of older adults from the University of the Third Age Program (U3A) at the University of Science and Technology of Presidente Prudente/ SP. Thirty-five structured interviews were conducted. The information obtained from the interviews was submitted to a Content Analysis. Savings are the most recurrent form of investment in this group. Expense with family members was pointed out as the main reason for debt contracting. Despite the intense market stimuli aimed to senior citizens, the Group analyzed showed that maintains a prudent consumption, favoring fixed-income investments rather than borrow inland contraction of credit.(AU)
