ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence and influencing factors of work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) in civil aviation flight attendants. METHODS: A total of 810 flight attendants from three civil aviation airlines in China were selected as research subjects using the convenient sampling method. The revised Musculoskeletal Disorders Investigating Questionnaire was used to investigate the prevalence of WMSDs in various parts of the body in the past year. RESULTS: The total prevalence of WMSDs in flight attendants in this survey was 64.4%(522/810). The prevalence of WMSDs in various parts of the body from high to low was: neck(48.0%), shoulder(38.6%), lower back/waist(26.0%), upper back(19.8%), feet(15.1%), knee(14.0%), hip and leg(11.0%), hand and wrist(9.0%) and elbow(5.1%). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that working with an uncomfortable posture and the shortage of staff in the work sector were risk factors for neck WMSDs(all P<0.05). The protective factors were sufficient rest time and voluntary decision when to take a break during work(all P<0.05). Carrying heavy objects >20 kg, working in uncomfortable posture and shortage of staff were risk factors for shoulder WMSDs(all P<0.05). Working in uncomfortable posture and repeated an operation every minute were risk factors for lower back/waist WMSDs(all P<0.05), and sufficient rest time was its protective factor(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of WMSDs in civil aviation flight attendants is high, and the neck, shoulder and ower back/waist are the most commonly affected part of the body. The main influencing factors are poor ergonomics and work organization.

@#Introduction: Diverse tools dedicated to the assessment of various NTS components during cardiopulmonary resuscitation have been published for medical professionals, nevertheless there are no precise measures for the assessment of emergency resuscitation relevant in the context of non-medical community. The aim of the study is to combine and develop a valid and reliable nontechnical skills (NTS) tool for basic life support emergency resuscitation training via simulation learning for flight attendant. Methods: (1) Selection and combination of relevant items into a draft instrument with a UKM specialist team. (2) Obtaining the expert’s review from various specialty for content validity. (3) Instrument testing through pilot study on five recorded simulated case scenarios involving four different elements of nontechnical skills (teamwork, communication, decision making & situation awareness) which were demonstrated in a medical emergency (acute myocardial infarction) (4) Obtaining the internal consistency & inter-rater reliability of the instrument. Results: Through expert review, selected items had been found to have an excellent total content validity index of 1.00. A single mean of both raters yielded a good internal consistency of 0.77. Strong correlations of both ratings from raters in each video ranging from 0.69 to 0.93 (p < .05). There was a good inter-rater reliability (ICC 0.68) and a good agreement (Kappa 0.62 – 0.81) among raters. Conclusion: The CETAM was found to be a reliable and valid instrument and should be beneficial for the measurement of NTS, nevertheless further evaluation is required to fully determined its properties before reaching definitive conclusion.

Resumo Introdução: com o aumento do número de voos e passageiros, as tarefas atribuídas aos comissários de bordo tornam-se mais complexas, podendo gerar sobrecarga e prejuízo à saúde e ao desempenho desses trabalhadores. Objetivos: identificar e sistematizar os artigos publicados em periódicos científicos, sobre o impacto de fatores físicos, ambientais e organizacionais do trabalho dos comissários de bordo na saúde desses trabalhadores. Método: revisão sistemática da literatura, em português e inglês, utilizando as palavras-chave "aeronave", "cabine", "transporte aéreo", "comissário de bordo" e "trabalho", nas bases de dados ScienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest e SciELO, considerando o período de 1983 a 2013. Resultados: 65 artigos atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. Verificou-se um predomínio de trabalhos com foco em fatores físicos e/ou relacionados à saúde/doença e em fatores relacionados à satisfação no trabalho e poucos estudos abordando a organização do trabalho. Conclusão: os estudos encontrados analisaram os fatores presentes nas situações de trabalho de comissários de bordo de forma isolada. Não foram encontrados estudos que adotassem uma metodologia de análise das situações de trabalho que possibilitasse estabelecer inter-relações entre os fatores determinantes da carga de trabalho desses trabalhadores e os impactos para sua saúde.


Abstract Introduction: with the increase in the number of flights and passengers, the tasks carried out by flight attendants become more complex, and may cause overload and damage to their health and performance. Objective: to identify articles and systematize information published in scientific journals related to flight attendants' health impact of the physical, environmental and organizational factors of their work. Method: systematic review of the scientific literature, in Portuguese and English, using the keywords "aircraft", "cabin", "air transportation", "flight attendant" and "work" in ScienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest and SciELO databases, published between 1983-2013. Results: 65 articles met the inclusion criteria. There was a predominance of studies focusing on physical factors and/or factors related to health/disease and related to job satisfaction, with few studies addressing work organization. Conclusion: the studies investigated the relationship between the work environment and the health of flight attendants using limited approaches. No studies were found adopting an analysis methodology that had allowed stablishing relationships between determining factors of workload and their impacts on the flight attendants health.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To discuss the effect of wearing customized curvature soft corneal contact lens to dry eye degree of flight attendants. METHODS:Eighty cases (160 eyes) of flight attendants from China Southern were divided into two groups:control group 40 cases ( 80 eyes ) wearing ready-made Bausch soft corneal contact lens ( curvature 8. 4 ); the experiment group 40 cases ( 80 eyes ) , wearing Bausch soft corneal contact lens with customized curvature. Tear break-up time ( BUT ) , Schirmer Ⅰ test ( SⅠt ) and fluorescein ( FL ) staining were as dry eye evaluation index. The results was statistically analyzed. RESULTS: BUT, SⅠt average shortening value of the experimental group were less than that of the control group, there was statistical significance (PCONCLUSION: Wearing customized curvature soft corneal contact lens can prevent the flight dry eye more effectively than fixed curvature product.
