ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Interventions for parental training for families of hard of hearing children, including cochlear implant users, are identified as optimizing their developmental outcomes. In this single-case intervention study, we aim to describe the use of videofeedback in a remote environment, as well as to identify its effectiveness, based on the analysis of mother-child interaction, both for the mother's communicative behaviors and for the behaviors of the mother, receptive and expressive language of the child. Pre- and post-intervention measurements were performed, based on video analysis of the mother's interaction with the child, by blind judges, as well as through the application of assessment instruments for the child and the mother. There were 13 sessions, 3 of which were for evaluation before and after the intervention and 10 of teleconsultation sessions in which the videofeedback tool was used with the mother. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, using the JT method, which determined the Reliable Change Index (BMI) and Clinical Significance. There was reliable positive change in the child's receptive and expressive language, as well as reliable positive change and clinically significant change in mother-child interaction after the 10 sessions of remote videofeedback intervention. Based on the reliable changes observed in this study, we present this model (televideofeedback) as a potential to optimize resources and efforts for therapeutic success in children's auditory rehabilitation, which should be studied in research with a rigorous method, for the broad recommendation of its use.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The choice of statistical data analysis should be guided by a critical analysis that supports the theoretical relationship between the construct and its indicators. This theoretical article reviews the three main existing psychometric paradigms and their proposals for explaining the relationship between indicators and their constructs. The discussion begins with the standard paradigm that guides the construction and analysis of data in psychology, reflective model. Then, a description of the formative models is performed and finally the Network Analysis as an alternative. The definitions, consequences, and limitations of the use of each measurement model are presented such as a reflection on making decisions about which data generation mechanisms are more appropriate.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess whether simulation based education (SBE) improves the practices and knowledge of junior residents for stabilization of a preterm neonate in delivery room as compared to conventional education (CE). Methods: This trial randomized 24 pediatric residents to either SBE (n=12) or CE (n=12) groups. One-time SBE was imparted to the SBE group. Both the groups had similar facilitator participant ratio and equally timed sessions. The individual skills scores and performance by preterm stabilization performance evaluation (PSPE) score in real time were recorded using a validated tool within 8 weeks of the training. Knowledge gain was evaluated using pre and post-test scores. Results: The mean (SD) skill and PSPE scores were comparable between the two groups (skill score 51.1 (8.1), 46.5 (7.8), respectively mean difference 4.6; 95% CI -2.1 to 11.3; PSPE-score 80.2 (14.2) vs. 82.9 (10.3); mean difference -2.68; 95% CI -8.35 to 13.71). The mean (SD) knowledge gain was similar in the groups [4.4 (1.9), 5.3 (4.1); mean difference 0.91; 95% CI, -1.81 to 3.64. Conclusion: In junior residents, a one-time SBE session, when compared to conventional task training, did not lead to improvement in the performance of the initial steps of neonatal resuscitation.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate impact of multisource feedback in pediatric residency training. Methods: A crossover study of pediatric residents at Wadia Children’s Hospital was conducted with assessment of core competencies like knowledge, practice-based learning, system-based practice, professionalism, communication skills and interpersonal interaction. After randomization both groups (A and B) were given MSF and traditional feedback, respectively and later the groups were crossed over to other method of feedback. Control faculty assessed both groups at three points – Pre-intervention, after first and after second intervention. Results: There were 16 residents in each group (13,7,7 in first, second and third year of residency, respectively). Both groups had comparable scores in all six competencies at entry point. Group A after MSF showed significant improvement in all six competencies (all P<0.01). No significant improvement was observed in group B after traditional feedback. After cross-over to MSF, group B showed statistically significant improvement in all core competencies. Traditional feedback to group A after crossover showed statistically significant improvement only in knowledge, professionalism and system based practice. Outcome: MSF was beneficial in improving competency based performance scores in pediatric residents.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction: The article describes the development and implementation of integrative activities as a formative evaluation of a distance-learning course of preceptorship specialization in Family and Community Medicine and discusses how the use of this activity is capable of integrating and assessing different knowledges, practices and performance of students in this modality of education. The course curriculum involves units with modules in three areas: family and community medicine, preceptorship and clinical practice, allowing the approach of essential topics for the practice of the specialty preceptor, which go beyond the study of pedagogical aspects. Experience report: The student was encouraged to carry out a textual production based on contextualized problems in the Primary Health Care preceptorship, guided by the tutor, aiming to critically reflect on the contents of each teaching unit. Illustrated situations were used in the activity statement, shown in comic strip format, which qualified the interpretation of the context addressed in the activity and promoted greater approximation with the reality experienced by the student. The contextualization of the activity and the exercise of putting oneself in the preceptor's place were considered positive points by the tutors. Discussion: The student-tutor interaction is a fundamental part of the activity, as it allows the construction of knowledge from an interactionist perspective of education, which is the basis of the pedagogical proposal of the course. The activity allowed the identification of gaps and potentialities in the students' learning and the implementation of particular pedagogical interventions. Conclusions: This type of activity ensures important dimensions of evaluative work in long-term courses: the procedural and interdisciplinary features. The integrative activity model can be used in distance courses with different disciplines, aiming at integrating them, providing a more in-depth approach and bringing the educational contents closer to the student's reality.
