ABSTRACT

In this text I outline the relationship between the type of interpretation of the work of art proposed by the author, and what happens in an psychoanalytic session. In analytic sessions the patient's "work" (oeuvre) is his narrative of his emotional experience in search of a symbolic form. In this process I suggest that what is evoked in the analyst, which becomes an interpretation or comment, is the core to the formation of its meaning and part of it. Hence, we consider the transference as a process of poiesis.

ABSTRACT

The authors discuss the traumatic potential of this pandemic, showing that not everyone affected by it will be traumatized. After that, they comment on how the experience of the pandemic can take different symbolic forms according to the level of anxiety and fear that it may bring to each individual who will be able or not to mobilize their capacity for symbolic representation to integrate the experience of the different fears brought to their psyche. Three clinical examples of some of these symbolic expressions are given.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The following article examines the institution for educational reform in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in 2013 to 2014 from a normative perspective, analyzing the trajectory of decisions made and positions assumed by the state parliament on the use of the delegation of legislative power, by means of an analysis of documents and content. We demonstrate that the Legislative Branch's decision to delegate its prerogative to legislate on educational reform in a management sense was based on an institutional dynamic and on a structure of incentives allowing the Executive to behave as a legislator. It finishes by concluding that, despite its constitutionality, such a use of delegation has implications on socially sanctioned education, as well as effects on the educational reform's democratic capacities.

ABSTRACT

Terra firma-forme dermatosis is characterized by asymptomatic dirt-like papules and plaques. It appears as dirt-like lesions, but is known to develop in persons with normal hygiene habits. Terra firma-forme dermatosis is rarely reported and has an unknown etiology. It is hypothesized to occur as a result of abnormal keratinization. Terra firma-forme dermatosis is usually detected in children and young adults. Its characteristic features include disappearance with alcohol swabbing. Thus, wiping with alcohol-soaked cotton is recommended before any other examination in cases where terra firma-forme dermatosis is suspected.

ABSTRACT

The process of transforming symbolic forms into dreams. This work is based on the description of three stages when working through a traumatic situation. This paper focuses on the symbolic transformations that occur throughout this process. The authors suggest that these transformations happen through a progression of the formal aspects of the symbol. This progress should include above all the expressive aspect of the symbol. Based on Benedetto Croce's definition, the notion of expressiveness is restored to Psychoanalysis.

ABSTRACT

Terra firma-forme dermatosis (TFFD) is a bizarre, acquired and idiopathic dermatosis that etiology has still not been fully defined. It is characterized by the presence of asymptomatic, brownish dirt-like lesion maybe due to disorder of keratinization. These lesions cannot be removed with ordinary cleansing. Therefore, TFFD can be differentiated from dermatosis neglecta. Patient was a 17-year-old man with brownish lesions on his face for 1 month. The patient had a history of regular washing habit with soap and water. The lesions were asymptomatic however due to cosmetic reasons, the patient wanted to treat his skin lesions. Punch biopsy revealed hyperkeratosis and fungal spore are in stratum corneum. Salicylic acid peeling with alcohol base was performed on the patient's face. The skin lesions disappeared completely on gentle swabbing with peeling. In this point, the diagnosis of TFFD could be considered. Since, this disease can be confused with dermatosis neglecta, we report this case with literature review.

ABSTRACT

Upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis is a rare entity that is associated with the use of catheters, hypercoagulable states, oral contraceptives, neoplasias, cervical rib or scalene syndrome, clavicle fractures and stress induced thrombosis. A 53 year male patient is presented here. He developed thrombosis of the axillary, cephalic and basilica veins three days after suffering a fractured middle third clavicle, which was initially immobilized with eight-bandage. The condition was solved with enoxaparin sodium and functional rehabilitation; clavicle fracture consolidated and thrombosed veins had recanalization. Some cases of thrombosis of the axillary or subclavian veins caused by clavicular fractures have been reported. It is very rare the occurrence of extensive thromboses affecting several veins, in this case, secondary to trauma or pressure exerted by the bandage(AU)

ABSTRACT

Terra firma-forme dermatosis is characterized by 'dirty' brown-grey cutaneous patches and plaques that can simply be eradicated by forceful swabbing with alcohol pads. The pathogenesis has been attributed to abnormal and delayed keratinization. Although affected patients present with typical lesions, the disorder is not well-known by dermatologists. In this report, we describe two patients with terra firma-forme dermatosis in the setting of xerosis cutis and atopic dermatitis. From a clinical point of view, we lay emphasis on its unique expression and diagnosis/treatment. From a histological perspective, we highlight its resemblance to dermatosis neglecta and speculate on the role of 'neglect' in a patient with seemingly adequate hygiene. The role of urea containing emollients in the development of this disorder remains to be determined.

ABSTRACT

A variety of studies involving schizophrenic patients have shown the occurrence of severe disabilities related to perception and cognition. Most diagnostics rely on alterations that reveal faulty reasoning. Our studies evaluate altered visual form and size perception in schizophrenic and major depression patients using 24 paintings by Salvador Dalí. We conducted two studies comparing experimental and control groups and found in both cases that schizophrenic patients first saw forms 1.5-3.0 times larger than controls. In another study with major depression patients, we show the absence of alterations in size perception during aggravated depressive symptoms. These effects on size perception can contribute as markers in the precocious diagnostic of the onset of positive symptoms in schizophrenia. We suggest that these paintings by Dalí can be employed as a tool to assess the state of visual form and size perception in schizophrenic patients, and therefore prevent cognitive deterioration by introducing early treatment.

ABSTRACT

Forme fruste choledochal cyst (FFCC) is one of the diverse types of choledochal cyst with little or no dilatation of the extrahepatic bile duct (EHBD). It is considered that FFCC has to do with the pancreatobiliary malunion (PBM). In children, 3 to 6 millimeters of EHBD is assumed to be normal. Even though there is no clear-cut definition, FFCC is likely to be associated with bile duct dilatation less than 10 millimeters. Almost all cases have PBMs and symptoms of the pancreatitis or cholangitis. We experienced a case of FFCC in a 4-year-old boy. His EHBD measures 10mm diameter. He had symptoms of pancreatitis and elevated hepatic transaminases. The pancreatobiliary common channel was 28 millimeters. He underwent EHBD resection and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy and was discharged with no specific complications.

ABSTRACT

Tuberous sclerosis is an autosomal dominant disease characterised by hamartomas (tubers) in many organ systems and the four major intracranial manifestations including cortical tubers, white matter abnormalities, subependymal nodules and subependymal giant cell astrocytoma. But there is immense variability in the clinical presentation of tuberous sclerosis and many incomplete forms (formes frustes) exist. Almost all patients with tuberous sclerosis have seizures and mental retardation. The authors experienced a 7-year-old boy with medically intractable epilepsy without any skin lesion or mental retardation. In terms of surgical standpoint for determination of extent of resection, corticectomy on the overriding cortex of right premotor and lesionectomy of periventricular calcified lesion were performed according to ictal single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT), which showed hyperperfusion in the subcortical and calcified area. Histopathologic findings showed a few cytologically abnormal neurons with extensive gliosis, containing many Rosenthal fibers, reactive astrocytes and dense calcification, composing of abundant calcospherites which suggested forme fruste tuberous sclerosis. During the follow-up period of eighteen months, seizure was free after surgery.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of childhood systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) with renal disease in a 10-year-old girl with multiple, scattered, erythema multiforme-like eruptions on the face, trunk, forearms and lower legs. Serologic abnormalities included hypocomplementemia, high ANA & anti DNA titers, and LE cell test was positive. The histologic finding of the lesion showed leukocytoclastic vasculitis and direct immunofluorescent test revealed linear deposit of IgM at the dermoepiderrnal junction. Electron microscopy showed glomerular subepithelial depasition of eletron dense material in the kidney.
