ABSTRACT

A 54-year-old female developed symmetrical, grouped, perioral papules affecting the perioral area for four years. Histologic examination revealed spongiosis and edema in the follicular infundibulum. Mild mononuclear cell exocytosis and perivascular lymphohistiocytic infiltration were seen. In addition, granulomatous areas were present. She had used topical corticosteroid intermittently and no associated systemic abnormalities. We made diagnosis that this condition was granulomatous perioral dermatitis, which began to resolve in about three weeks after oral doxycycline and topical metronidazole treatment.

ABSTRACT

Childhood granulomatous perioral dermatitis is a distinctive granulomatous process of unknown cause with a benign and self-limited course and no associated systemic manifestations. We herein report a case of a 12-year-old Korean girl with multiple, discrete, monomorphic, flesh-colon, papular eruptions on the perioral, periocular, and perinasal areas of 7-month duration. Histopathologic examination revealed upper dermal and perifollicular granulomatous infiltrate.

ABSTRACT

Childhood granulomatous perioral dermatitis(CGPD) is a distinctive granulomatous form of perioral dermatitis of unknown cause with a benign and self-limited course and no associated systemic manif estations. It is characterized by an asymptomatic monomorphous papular eruption, with or without scale or pustules, around the mouth, nose, and eyes primarily in prepubertal children. This condition may resemble sarcoidosis both clinically and histologically. A 3-year-old boy first presented with a month-history of mildly pruritic rash around the mouth. When he returned for follow-up after an eight-week period of topical corticosteroid therapy, multiple new follicular papules and pustules developed. Histopathologic examination revealed that a granulomatous lesion consisted of nodular infiltration of multiple histiocytes admixed with lymphocytes in the dermis. The condition resolved in about three weeks after using an unknown topical agent prescribed by a private practicing dermatologist.

ABSTRACT

A 51-year-old female developed a distinctive perioral rash, conisting of discrete or confluent erythematous papules for one and a half years. Histopathologic examiriation revealed upper dermal granulomas admixed with lymphoytes. Pieces of hair shaft were staincd peri-dish by AFB in the center of granuloma, which might play a role in the formation of the granuloma She also had used corticosteroid ointment intermittently duririg this time. There were no associated systemic abnormalities. The lesions resolved after two month treatment with oral corticosteroid and tetrac cline.
