ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the situation and influencing factors of online health information seeking behavior of older patients with coronary heart disease. Methods:From July to November 2021, a cross-sectional survey was conducted on 451 older patients with coronary heart disease in four districts of Qingdao City using the general information questionnaire, Patient Activation Scale, Social Support Scale and Online Health Information Seeking Behavior Scale. Results:Olderpatients with coronary heart disease had a score of (70.69 ± 9.19) for online health information seeking behavior. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, education, internet use frequency, social support and patient activation were the main influencing factors of online health information seeking behavior ( R2=0.639, F=31.58, all P<0.05). Conclusions:Older patients with coronary heart disease have a moderate level of online health information seeking behavior, and is influenced by multiple factors. Targeted measures should be taken to make patients actively search for disease information online to prevent disease deterioration and promote healthy aging.

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Health information-seeking behaviour is a process of gathering information for individuals to understand and cope with his/her health problems. Apart from the Internet or Web 1.0, Web 2.0 tools has been increasingly used as alternative to seek health information and one such tool is social media platform. This study aims to identify cognitive determinants of health information-seeking behaviour through social media platforms among Malaysian adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study by means of convenience sampling was conducted during a nationwide pandemic lockdown. Cognitive determinants were defined as respondent’s perceived usefulness, perceived ease of user, perceived benefit, perceived costs, perceived behavioural control, and perceived risk towards social media use. Questionnaires were distributed via Google Form link to multiple social media platforms and cross-platform messaging app. Differences between group of sociodemographic factors and other independent variables were tested with nonparametric tests while multiple linear regression was employed to determine the significant predictors of the health information seeking behavior. Results: A total of 705 individuals responded to the survey invitation, the majority of which were females (65%), Malay (93.6%), married (52.1%), and received tertiary education (88.5%). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that perceived benefit (β= 0.612, 95% CI: 0.517-0.708, p<0.001), perceived usefulness (β= 0.653, 95% CI: 0.453-0.853, p<0.001), and perceived risk (β= 0.131, 95% CI: 0.03-0.259, p=0.044) significantly predict health information seeking behavior through social media platform. Conclusion: Our findings provide fundamental grounds for stakeholders to better understand and influence online behavior. Staying abreast of the current online trend is crucial as more people have begun to rely on social media for health information.

ABSTRACT

The behavior of patients' health information seeking might affect the doctor-patient relationship by increasing patients' rights and perceived incentives. The paper puts forward the hypothesis and builds a study model, prepares and collectes questionnaires, analyzes sample characteristics, and carries out the reliability analysis and factor analysis on the model rating scale as well as the empiri-cal analysis by using the structural equation model. On this basis,it makes discussion and gives suggestion for the study.

ABSTRACT

This conceptual analysis explored the influence of "uncertainty" on the health information-seeking behaviour. The concepts of uncertainty in illness and uncertainty orientation were analyzed within two theoretical frameworks applying Wilson's 1method. The results proved relevant to the field of health promotion indicating that cognitive meaning, behavioural tendency, wishes, motivation and performance were at play in information-seeking. In conclusion, self-protection, transition, transformation and transcendence justified such behaviour. The results contribute to the reflective practice and incorporation of theories into practice. New studies with other motivational theories will further contribute to redesign educative interventions and to sustain interventions related to health behaviour.
