ABSTRACT

Bone formation and resorption are continuous processes and a tool to evaluate alterations these activities is to measure seric or urinary markers of bone metabolism. The aims of this study were to identify if commercial sets available to detect human osteocalcin, (OC) amino-terminal propeptides of procollagen type I (PINP), type-I collagen carboxi-terminal telopeptide (ICTP) are also available for usage in domestic cats; measure seric levels of OC, PINP and ICTP; correlate findings with bone mineral density (BMD) in young adult cats. OC and ICTP means (±SD) was 0.15±0.03ng mL-1 and 8.59±5.78ng mL-1, respectively. BMD while 1.40±0.23mm Al. Bone metabolism markers showed low correlation between then and also BMD. This paper concludes that commercial sets designed for OC and ICTP measures in humans may be used for same purpose in cats to evaluate bone metabolism activity alterations and that kits used for PINP in human should not be used to evaluate in cats.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the serum pyridinoline cross-linked carboxyteminal telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen ( ICTP) in the early diagnosis potency, efficacy and prognosis of tumor bone metastasis. Methods According to emission computed tomography(ECT) ,MRI and X-ray results,336 cases of tumor were divided into higher ICTP (5. 98 ± 1. 95μg/L ) than normal values. Twenty-two cases were identified bone metastasis through PET/CT examination. 26 cases were identified bone the effective cases decreased from( 13. 22 ± 4.65)μg/L (before treatment) to (7. 18 ±3. 54)μg/L (after treatment) (t = 10. 076,P = 0. 000). Conclusions Serum ICTP is helpful for the early diagnosis, screening and efficacy evaluation of tumor bone metastasis. It could be used for monitoring the occurrence of tumor bone metastasis and its prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Secondary hyperparathyroidism represents one extreme of the spectrum of the bone and endocrine changes observed in uraemic patients, and may develop since early stages of renal failure. The clinical symptoms and signs are non-specific and the contribution of image evaluation in the diagnosis of secondary hyperparathyroidism is, frequently, misleading. In this review, in addition to the classic modulators of bone remodeling, like parathyroid hormone (and PTHfragments), calcitriol and calcitonin, the role of others local factors involved in osteoblast and osteoclast activation, like cytokines and growth factors, is alsodiscussed.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] The aim of this investigation was to evaluate bone metabolism responses to acute resistance exercise during the menstrual cycle. [Methods] Subjects were young healthy sedentary women (n=7) with regular menstrual cycles. The subjects performed acute resistance exercise in each phase (follicular and luteal) of the menstrual cycle. Bone metabolism markers (bone formation marker BAP and bone resorption marker ICTP), bone metabolism related hormones (parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, calcium and inorganic phosphorus) and lactate were determined. Blood samples were collected before (Pre) and immediately following the exercise (Post), 1 hour (P1h) and 24 hours (P24h) after the exercise. [Results] BAP significantly increased at Post compared with Pre both in the follicular and luteal phases (p<0.05), but significantly decreased at P1h and P24h in the luteal phase. ICTP significantly increased at Post in the follicular phase (p<0.05) and significantly decreased at P1h and P24h in the luteal phase. The bone metabolism responses in the luteal phase moved to low-bone turnover at P1h and P24h. [Conclusion] The bone metabolism response to acute resistance exercise was different between menstrual phases. These results suggest that bone metabolism is influenced by the menstrual cycle.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To study the bone metabolic biochemical index of the aged patients with hip fracture, for better predicting the future risk of the old people' s hip fracture.[Method]50 cases of sufferers(over 60 years old) with hip fracture(28 males, and 22 females) and 30 cases of healthy aged people(15 males, and 15 females) were selected to analyze Ⅰ Collagen crosslinked c-telopeptide(ICTP),deoxypyridino line(Dpd) in urine, and serum bone glaprotein(BGP).[Result](1)The mean level of ICTP and Dpd in urine in aged hip fracture group was higherthan that of the control group(P0.05).[Conclusion]Bone absorbability in the aged hip fracture patients is higher than in the aged healthy people. The analysis of ICTP and Dpd in urine may /might give some reference value in preventing and treatlng aged hip fracture patients.
