ABSTRACT
RESUMEN El Centro Provincial de Información de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara sin dudas se ha caracterizado por cambiar el horizonte laboral de muchas personas. Los inicios de esta institución eran muy inciertos, los usuarios de diferentes especialidades que habían estado suscritos a títulos de revistas relevantes llegaban con cierta desconfianza de que esta nueva modalidad compensara sus necesidades de información. Gracias al trabajo intenso de su colectivo, su gran sentido de pertenencia con las tareas que realizaban, sus iniciativas, disciplina, respeto hacia los demás y hacia su trabajo, muy pronto se hicieron frecuentes las visitas de especialistas, residentes y alumnos. Lo aprendido en él y las experiencias acumuladas favorecen el crecimiento profesional de sus especialistas, cuestión que ha permitido que, a través de estos 50 años, hayan mantenido en alto un centro que constituye la piedra angular del sistema nacional de información de Ciencias Médicas en Villa Clara.
ABSTRACT The Provincial Information Center of Medical Science in Villa Clara has undoubtedly been characterized by changing the working life of many people. The beginnings of this institution were very uncertain; users of different specialties who had been subscribed to titles of relevant journals arrived with certain distrust that this new modality compensated for their information needs. Visits of specialists, residents and students became frequent very soon thanks to the intense work done by the group of workers, their great sense of belonging to the tasks they performed, their initiatives, discipline, respect for others and their work. What people learned by working there and the accumulated experiences favor the professional growth of its specialists, an issue that has allowed, through these 50 years, to have maintained a center that constitutes the cornerstone of the national information system of Medical Sciences in Villa Clara.

El presente trabajo pretende conocer cuál es la autopercepción de los Licenciados en Bibliotecología uruguayos que trabajan como referencistas en bibliotecas biomédicas. Se realizó una encuesta con preguntas abiertas que indagan, entre otros, las actividades que desempeña el bibliotecario, y qué posible influencia en ellas ha suscitado la aparición de la Web 2.0 y el avance de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación en los últimos cinco años. Para lograr este cometido, se utilizaron técnicas de análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de aquellos textos obtenidos como respuestas a la encuesta. Las técnicas de análisis del texto incluyeron la utilización del Altas.ti y el uso de clasificación temática con ayuda de tesauros del área de Bibliotecología y Ciencias de la Información. Se concluye que el referencista uruguayo tiene una opinión positiva y bien calificada de sí mismo, y que su percepción concuerda en general con los requerimientos del mercado laboral a nivel mundial.
Present paper pretend to know about the self-perception of the Uruguayan Bachelor in Library Sciences working as reference staff in biomedical libraries. A survey was carried out with free questions enquiring into, among other, the activities developed by the librarian and what possible influence on it arouse the appearance of Web 2.0 and the advance of information and communication technologies in past five years. To achieve this task techniques of qualitative and quantitative analysis were used from those texts obtained as response to survey. Text analysis techniques included the use of the Altas.ti(?) and of the thematic classification with the help of thesaurus from the Library Science and Information Sciences. We concluded that the Uruguayan reference staff has a positive and well qualified of himself and that its perception agrees in general with the requirements of the labor market at worldwide.
