ABSTRACT

The future hospital is a resilient, physical learning facility featuring digital enhancement and leveraging an ecosystem of platforms for the Internet of Things (IoT) and analytics, achieving patient-centric care delivery via multidisciplinary healthcare provider teams coordinated to meet patients’ medical, psychological, social and economic needs. It exists in a just ecosystem that assimilates the care spectrum from healthy living, the prevention of disease to acute care and the rehabilitation of patients recuperating from illnesses. It will take some time for these future hospitals to be built or for current hospitals to evolve and/or transform, but efforts to spread wisdom among the stakeholders, healthcare providers and patients must start now. The development of the digital components can also begin today, as can competency building for the healthcare providers who will be staffing these future hospitals, ensuring that they are equipped with competent staff employing patient-centric care processes that cater to patients’ current and future needs.

ABSTRACT

Brain-computerinterface(BCI) is a kind of direct channel for information communication and control established between the human brain and computer or other electronic equipment.BCI is a novel information communication system which does not depend on the conventional brain information pathways. The asynchronous brain-computer interface technology is based on alpha wave control, and can automatically switch system mode between working and idle and select the larger EEG signal associated with motion imagination. In this paper, the basic knowledge of BCI and alpha wave-based asynchronous BCI technology were introduced. The key technology and application prospect of the novel alpha wave-based asynchronous BCI technology were summarized, and the status and existing problems were analyzed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To monitor clinical rational use of drugs, analyze the problems involved and to put forward reasonable suggestions.METHODS: Using the platform of medical information communication established based on the "Military Medical Project No.1" local area network and "Hospital Information Management System",the electronic medical records of the inpatients, ward round records, treatment plans and the relative laboratory test reports from October 2006 to March 2007 were retrieved online. The involved problems were discussed with clinical physicians through the network.RESULTS: The problems in the clinical drug use manifested as repeated medication, improper administration, overdoses and adverse interactions of combined drugs. The irrational prophylactic administration of antibiotics in the surgical department was characterized by improper choice of drugs and prolonged course of treatment etc.CONCLUSION: Great importance should be attached to drug interactions, and the indications for drug combination and course of treatment should be kept under tightly control so as to reduce adverse reactions and delay the onset of drug resistance.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study and compare the views on cancer associated information and communication needs of cancer patients among cancer patients, their relatives, doctors and nurses, and other groups of people. Methods: A total of 501 cancer patients, 169 relatives,86 doctors and nurses, 176 healthy elderly people and 505 first grade college stu- dents were asked to complete the Information Preference Questionnaire of Cancer Patients and 2 questions regarding gen- eral information amount and content (IPQCP+2), and the Information Need Questionnaire (INQ). The elderly and the stu- dents were asked to complete two sets of IPQCP+2 and INQ in two roles: one as themselves and the other as patients. All data were analyzed in detail. Results: The views of different groups are significantly different. The differences include the viewpoints on whether to disclose the diagnosis of cancer and to inform the life expectancy to cancer patients, and whether the patients should participate in decisions about their medical care and treatments. The mean score of IPQCP on the over- all items and the 4 dimensions of all groups, and their opinions on general information amount and content for patients are significantly different. Conclusion: The views of different groups of people on cancer associated information and commu- nication needs of cancer patients are different. The views and requests of cancer patients themselves are the basis of doc- tor- patient communication. The prevention of cancer should be based on the characteristics of different groups of people and the patients’views should be considered.
