ABSTRACT

Objective: Following the amendment of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act in December 2019, continuous follow-up of patients during treatment has been mandated for pharmacists. The follow-up methods may involve contacting patients via telephone and social networking services (SNS). The SNS is advantageous over telephone, because patients can respond to the pharmacists at their convenience. Therefore, we developed a patient compliance instruction support system “FollowNavi” using LINE. We prepared a content of inhalation drugs used to treat bronchial asthma for assessment using FollowNavi and conducted questionnaire surveys among patients and pharmacists to validate its utility. Methods: FollowNavi was used from May1 to July 31, 2020, to follow up patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma for whom long-term control medicine (inhalation drugs) was prescribed for the first time or prescriptions were changed from other inhalation drugs. Subsequently, when the patients revisited the pharmacy, we conducted a questionnaire survey regarding the usability of FollowNavi. We also conducted a questionnaire survey among the pharmacists. Results: Seven and five responses were received from patients who were followed up via FollowNavi and pharmacists who used FollowNavi, respectively. Furthermore, 28.6% of the patients responded “I could solve the problem through LINE” and 71.4% responded “I did not have anything in particular that I could not understand.” As for pharmacists, 60.0% responded that they could obtain sufficient information from the patients through FollowNavi. Conclusion: The results suggest that follow-up after providing inhalation instructions using the inhalation drug content of FollowNavi may be useful for both patients and pharmacists.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To develop a method for determination of the dissolution of inhaled drugs by using indacaterol maleate, ipratropium bromide and budesonide as model drugs, and explore the law of dissolution of inhaled drugs. METHODS: Samples were prepared and the improved paddle apparatus method (USP dissolution assay-fifth method) was used for dissolution experiment. Samples were taken at a certain time, and the drug concentration was determined by HPLC. The sample dispersion method, dissolution medium and membrane were optimized, meanwhile inhaled drugs with different properties were measured and dissolution curve was modeled. RESULTS: An improved paddle apparatus method for simulating drug dissolution in respiratory tract was developed, samples were collected using the new generation impactor and the dissolution parameters were determined to be as follows: 150 mL of dissolution medium (250 mL dissolution cup), 2% Tween 80-PBS dissolution medium, 4.5 cm watch glass (4.7 cm drug-loaded membranes and 4.7 cm mesh screen), glass microfiber filters, double-layer membranes, drug-loaded membrane fixation method (level the mesh screen) and sampling time of 3 h; Weibull model was suitable for fitting the three drugs with different solubility (r2>0.999 1). CONCLUSION: The method is simple and reproducible, and can be used to determine the dissolution of inhalation drugs; the dissolution process of inhaled drugs is consistent with Weibull model.

ABSTRACT

Inhaled drug was delivered through the oral and nasal cavities, which can avoid the liver first pass effect and nervous system barriers.Inhaled drugs can directly reach the disease site, which play a critical role in the treatment of respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, endocrine system diseases, nervous system diseases, tumor diseases, surgical perioperative respiratory tract management, preventive medicine and so on.Furthermore,as a non-invasive drug delivery method, inhalation has many ad-vantages such as high bioavailability, good stability, and targeted binding to lesion site, low systemic drug exposure, low side effects and easily acceptance. It will play an important role in the treatment of systemic diseases with whole body.In this paper, the research progress in the prevention and treatment of diseases in various systems by inhalation administration is reviewed.in order to explore the value of inhalation administration in the treatment of diseases,to improve the awareness of medical nursing staff on the way of inhalation treatment and to make patients have more benefit.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To review the research progress and practical achievements in inhalation drug delivery systems. Methods:Based on the recently published papers and international conference papers, the research on the application of inhalation drug delivery systems was summarized and analyzed. Results:The advantages of inhalation drug delivery systems were illustrated. The advantages and drawbacks of different inhalation devices were reviewed, the guidelines for the selection and application were introduced, and the development direction of inhalation therapy was reviewed as well. Conclusion:Inhalation drug delivery systems show good application prospect.
