ABSTRACT

When dealing with public health emergencies,telemedicine can optimize the allocation of medical resources of primary healthcare institutions quickly.Therefore,a blood oxygen saturation monitoring system based on cellular internet of things is designed in the study.Compared with the traditional medical blood oxygen saturation monitors,the system is wearable,low-cost and easy-to-operate,and it is more suitable for the scenario of rapid detection at the primary healthcare institutions or user monitoring at home.The in-ear earphone model makes the detection module innovatively.Both blood oxygen saturation and body temperature can be obtained simultaneously,and the monitoring data are transmitted to the database through narrow band internet of things.The accumulated data provides effective support for personalized diagnosis and treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To construct a multi-dimensional surgical equipment management and control platform based on artificial intelligence and Internet of Things(AIoT)to assist with the refinement and intelligent management medical equipment in hospital operating rooms.Methods:A multi-dimensional surgical equipment control platform based on AIoT was established by integrating the Internet of Things(IoT),big data analysis,indoor positioning technology,artificial intelligence(AI)technology and other technologies to collect real-time process data of surgical equipment such as endoscopy and electrosurgical,and to open up the relationships among information systems relating to surgical equipment,such as hospital information system(HIS),laboratory information system(LIS),radiology information system(RIS)and operation anesthesia management system(OAMS),so as to provide technical support for efficiency analysis,benefit analysis and assets management of surgical equipment.The platform was composed of 3 layers:data extraction layer,data engine layer and AI data analysis layer,including 4 functional modules:automatic data acquisition,deep data fusion,data mining and analysis and data visualization.Results:This platform was launched in Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in June 2022,and had realized achieving intelligent daily management such as indoor positioning of operating room equipment,one click inventory.A set of performance analysis method based on IoT and integrated with information systems was established to automatically count the utilization efficiency and cost-effectiveness of key surgical equipment to realize intelligent service,intelligent management,and digital operation.Conclusion:The construction and application of this platform improved the efficiency of medical equipment in operating rooms,reduced the cost and increased the efficiency,assisted in the refinement and intelligent management of hospital surgical equipment,and provided data support for scientific decision-making of hospital managers.

ABSTRACT

Objective To design an intelligent surgery management system for closed-loop management of the entire surgical process.Methods An intelligent surgery management system was developed with digital twin technology,Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0 development toolset and C# language,which realized multi-modal data acquisition with IoT devices such as radio frequency identification(RFID)bracelets,mobile terminals and positioning base stations and real-time data mirroring and gathering by change data capture(CDC)technology.There were four functional modules included in the system developed,including the modules for IoT device management,transfer process recording,intelligent management command chamber and surgical progress reminder.Results The system developed could provide real-time feedback on the operation status of all aspects of surgery,shorten the lengths of preoperative positioning and surgical reception and improve the satisfaction of both doctors and patients.Conclusion The system developed achieves closed-loop management and complete data traceability of the entire surgical process,helping to form an efficient and safe surgical operation management system.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2024,45(1):42-46]

ABSTRACT

Objective To use the Internet of things based early warning model of lung cancer to perform early lung cancer screening among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)patients in Lishui City.Methods Patients with COPD diagnosed in our hospital from July 2021 to June 2022 underwent plain chest CT,and the 300 patients who had lung nodules detected and agreed to participate in the study were completed with lung nodule target scan + two-and three-dimensional reconstruction to detect gene polymorphisms of CYP1A1,GST and XRCC1 and mirna130a and mir204-5p in peripheral blood.Asked to wear smart hand ring for 10 hours every day while awake from July 2022 to September 2022 to detect vital signs and exercise volume.Review lung nodule target scan + two three dimensional reconstruction in October 2022.If the nodules were larger than before,the patient was truthfully informed of the results.The patient and the specialist of our hospital discussed whether to carry out lung puncture for pathology.Patients with pathologically confirmed lung cancer were progression group and the rest were stable group.Results Totally 240 patients were in the stable group,48 patients were in the progression group,12 patients continued to follow-up after consultation by physicians.There were significant differences in adiposity,mean oximetry,nadir oximetry,forced vital capacity(FVC)predicted,exercise capacity,and lung nodule diameter between the two groups.The expression levels of peripheral mirna-130a,mirna-204-5p were significantly different between the two groups(P<0.001).There were significant differences in CYP1A1,GST,and XRCC1 genotypes in peripheral blood between stable and progressive patients.The areas under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were mean oxygen saturation(0.681),lowest oxygen saturation(0.735),FVC predicted(0.781),exercise(0.835),lung nodule length diameter(0.825),peripheral blood mirna-130a(0.796),mirna-204-5p(0.893).Conclusion The Internet of things based early warning model for lung cancer can be used for lung cancer screening among COPD patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To provide reference for improving the level of hospital pharmaceutical management for operating room drugs. METHODS The operating room pharmacy of our hospital utilized the concept and means of the Internet of Things (IoT) to build an intelligent IoT system for operating room drugs (hereinafter referred to as the “IoT system”), and optimized and improved it. The quality of drug management in the operating room of our hospital during the initial phase of the IoT system (Q1 2022) and after optimization and improvement (Q1 2023) were compared by setting indicators from four aspects: quality, efficiency, cost, and satisfaction. RESULTS After more than a year of optimization and improvement, our hospital has built a traceable IoT system for the entire drug process that integrated surgical anesthesia systems and hospital information systems, with the direction of drug circulation in the operating room as the axis, using intelligent drug vehicles as the hardware foundation, and anesthesia doctor’s order information system as the software medium. After the optimization and improvement of the IoT system, the standardized score of anesthesia orders in the operating room increased from (68.5±3.5) points in the initial period to (97.0± 2.7) points; the consistency rate between accounts and materials increased from (82.40±8.85)% to (96.50±4.80)%; the time of taking medicine was shortened from (40±8) min to (12±3) min; the frequency of drug withdrawal was reduced from (36.0± 6.5) times/day to (15.5±3.0) times/day; the cost of loss drugs was decreased from (1 292.61±305.90) yuan to (594.24±195.05) yuan; the satisfaction was increased from (80.5±6.5) points to (96.0±3.0) points. All indicators were significantly improved with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The intelligent IoT system constructed by our hospital effectively ensures the accessibility, timeliness, and safety of intraoperative medication, which is conducive to improving the quality of drug management in the operating room.

ABSTRACT

Internet of Things (IoT) technology plays an important role in smart healthcare. This paper discusses IoT solution for emergency medical devices in hospitals. Based on the cloud-edge-device architecture, different medical devices were connected; Streaming data were parsed, distributed, and computed at the edge nodes; Data were stored, analyzed and visualized in the cloud nodes. The IoT system has been working steadily for nearly 20 months since it run in the emergency department in January 2021. Through preliminary analysis with collected data, IoT performance testing and development of early warning model, the feasibility and reliability of the in-hospital emergency medical devices IoT was verified, which can collect data for a long time on a large scale and support the development and deployment of machine learning models. The paper ends with an outlook on medical device data exchange and wireless transmission in the IoT of emergency medical devices, the connection of emergency equipment inside and outside the hospital, and the next step of analyzing IoT data to develop emergency intelligent IoT applications.

ABSTRACT

At present, there are disadvantages with the detection for occupational hazard factors, such as insufficient monitoring data, poor timeliness, weak representativeness, long detection cycles, and inability to continuously monitor. Taking advantages of internet of things technology, an online monitoring platform for occupational hazard factors has been designed. The platform collects the concentration (intensity) of hazard factors through sensors, transmits the occupational hazards data collected online in realtime. The online monitoring cloud center for occupational hazard factors processes and analyzes online monitoring data in realtime, stores the hazard factors data to form database management, and provides user application services to form an intelligent online monitoring service model for occupational hazard factors. Based on the online monitoring platform of occupational hazard factors, multi-level government health supervision departments and employers can grasp the status of hazard factors in real time, which is conducive to improving the level of occupational hazard supervision.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a nuclear radiation environment monitoring scheme based on the Internet of Things technology. The scheme primarily utilizes ZigBee wireless communication protocol, dedicated line network topology, and cloud-based processing techniques to achieve the entire process of acquisition, localization, transmission, tracking, monitoring, and management of X, γ, α, β, and neutron radiation data at nuclear radiation monitoring sites. Through initial application, the system demonstrates favorable characteristics such as good portability, strong scalability, secure information transmission, and deep data mining.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To upgrade the wisdom of traditional wards through the internet of things platform to achieve intelligent and refined management of wards, and to evaluate the effect of the upgrade.Methods:In June 2020, the convenience sampling method was used to selecte two wards of the cardiology department of Shandong First Medical University as the pilot units of the affiliated provincial Hospital to implement the intelligent ward management mode. Based on the principle of easy transformation, easy construction and easy maintenance, on the basis of realizing the full coverage of the internet of things, the hardware and software system were connected to complete the intelligent upgrade of the traditional ward, and the structured observation and semi-structured interview methods were adopted to evaluate the upgraded work efficiency and the use experience of patients.Results:The time spent on vital sign collection and recording, nursing risk assessment and time spent, and signage production and hanging were (4.24 ± 0.87), (4.07 ± 0.86) and 0 min respectively, which were effectively reduced than those before the upgrade (6.50 ± 2.95), (4.73 ± 1.62) and (1.13 ± 0.43) min, with statistically significant differences ( t=8.04, 3.99, 28.96, all P<0.01). The results of semi-structured interviews showed that patients perceived the smart ward as intelligent, saving manpower and waiting time; simple to operate, improving the experience of healthcare workers and patients in using it; and untimely system updates. Conclusions:The wisdom upgrade of traditional wards can help refine patient management, improve work efficiency, and improve the experience of health care workers and patients in using them, which will be continuously improved in future development and can provide practical paths for reference for the wisdom upgrade of similar wards.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the application effect of the information platform based on the Internet of Things (IoT) in the screening and management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods:In this cross-sectional study, 151 062 residents who participated in the screening in the districts covered by 33 general hospitals and 289 primary medical institutions within the framework of Henan Provincial Center for COPD Prevention and Treatment from November 2021 to October 2022 were included as the subjects. Spirometer based on the IoT was used to conduct pulmonary function tests for subjects who scored 16 points or more with COPD Screening Questionnaire (COPD-SQ), and the subjects were evaluated and managed through the structured electronic data in the information platform. The distribution characteristics and follow-up of the subjects and COPD patients were described and the application effect of this strategy in patients screening and management was analyzed.Results:A total of 151 062 residents with complete basic information in the information platform completed the questionnaire. High-risk population of COPD accounted for 26.5% (40 042/151 062) of the population who received the questionnaire screening, and more than 50% had respiratory symptoms, such as chronic cough (59.4%), or shortness of breath (77.6%). The proportion of high-risk population increased with age, especially after 50 years old. Compared with non-smokers, the proportion of high-risk group was significantly higher (77.1% vs 16.4%) in the group with smoking index over 600. Biofuel exposure (61.3% vs 22.1%) and family history of respiratory diseases (64.2% vs 22.6%) were associated with an increased proportion of high-risk groups, with statistically significant differences ( P<0.001). 5 268 patients were diagnosed with COPD by pulmonary function tests, and the prevalence of COPD in high-risk groups was 27.8% (5 268/18 965), the prevalence rate of male was 34.0% (3 942/11 588), which was higher than that of female 18.0% (1 326/7 377). 2 950 patients (56.0%) completed at least one follow-up of symptom questionnaire and 510 patients (9.7%) completed more than one follow-up of pulmonary function test. Conclusion:The screening and management strategy of COPD based on the IoT and information technology can improve the efficiency of COPD screening, and improve the status quo of under-diagnosis and discontinuous follow-up of COPD.

{L-End}Objective To establish the construction of intelligent management system for equipment and supplies of medical rescue teams for provincial nuclear and radiation accidents, based on modern Internet+ Internet of Things. {L-End}Methods The current status and requirements of emergency equipment and supplies allocation and management of medical emergency teams for provincial nuclear and radiation accidents were analyzed. Utilizing technologies such as Internet of Things, low-power Bluetooth, and radio frequency identification, an intelligent management system for medical rescue teams, its equipment and supplies for provincial nuclear and radiation accidents was designed. {L-End}Results The intelligent management system for medical rescue teams, its equipment and supplies for nuclear and radiation accidents was able to perform the inventory warning, expiration date warning, maintenance alert, and warning for emergency personnel health status, based on dynamic management of rescue personnel, equipment and supplies. It provided an effective support for on-site commanders in making emergency decisions. {L-End}Conclusion The use of Internet+Internet of Things technology can achieve intelligent management for medical rescue teams and its equipment and supplies can effectively improve the level of personnel and equipment support for the rescue of nuclear and radiation accidents at the provincial level.

ABSTRACT

Wearable monitoring, which has the advantages of continuous monitoring for a long time with low physiological and psychological load, represents a future development direction of monitoring technology. Based on wearable physiological monitoring technology, combined with Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence technology, this paper has developed an intelligent monitoring system, including wearable hardware, ward Internet of Things platform, continuous physiological data analysis algorithm and software. We explored the clinical value of continuous physiological data using this system through a lot of clinical practices. And four value points were given, namely, real-time monitoring, disease assessment, prediction and early warning, and rehabilitation training. Depending on the real clinical environment, we explored the mode of applying wearable technology in general ward monitoring, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and integrated monitoring inside and outside the hospital. The research results show that this monitoring system can be effectively used for monitoring of patients in hospital, evaluation and training of patients' cardiopulmonary function, and management of patients outside hospital.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The prospect of high income brought about by economic development has made it possible for more people to join platform sports tourism to maximize their quality of life and spiritual experience. However, health problems in this modality are frequent. Objective: To verify the impacts of a cloud-based health monitoring and management system, using mobile devices and the Internet of Things, on the health problems of platform sports tourism. Methods: Systematic technical research combined with technology preceded the design of the functional module of the platform sports tourism health monitoring and management system through analysis of the demand for health monitoring and management. Finally, the platform sports tourism health monitoring was validated through system testing. Results and Conclusion: The effectiveness and test results of the management system show that the accuracy of physiological signals reaches 90%. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.


RESUMO Introdução: A perspectiva de alta renda trazida pelo desenvolvimento econômico tem proporcionado a mais pessoas aderirem ao turismo esportivo de plataformas visando maximizar a qualidade de vida e sensação de experiência espiritual. Porém, os problemas de saúde nessa modalidade são frequentes. Objetivo: Verificar os impactos de um sistema para monitoramento e gestão de saúde baseado na nuvem, utilizando dispositivos móveis e internet das coisas, proporcionados nos problemas de saúde do turismo esportivo de plataformas. Métodos: Pesquisas técnicas sistemáticas combinadas com tecnologia precederam o desenho do módulo funcional do sistema de monitoramento e gestão da saúde no turismo esportivo de plataformas através da análise na demanda de monitoramento e gestão da saúde. Finalmente, o monitoramento da saúde do turismo esportivo de plataformas foi validado através do teste no sistema. Resultados e Conclusão: A eficácia e os resultados dos testes do sistema de gerenciamento mostram que a precisão dos sinais fisiológicos chega a 90%. Nível de evidência II; Estudos terapêuticos - investigação dos resultados do tratamento.


Resumen Introducción: La perspectiva de altos ingresos traída por el desarrollo económico ha hecho que más personas se unan a la plataforma de turismo deportivo con el objetivo de maximizar la calidad de vida y el sentido de la experiencia espiritual. Sin embargo, los problemas de salud en esta modalidad son frecuentes. Objetivo: Verificar los impactos de un sistema de monitorización y gestión de la salud basado en la nube, utilizando dispositivos móviles e Internet de las cosas, proporcionados en los problemas de salud del turismo deportivo de las plataformas. Métodos: La investigación técnica sistemática combinada con la tecnología precedió al diseño del módulo funcional del sistema de monitorización y gestión de la salud en el turismo deportivo de plataforma a través del análisis sobre la demanda de monitorización y gestión de la salud. Por último, la plataforma de vigilancia de la salud del turismo deportivo se validó mediante pruebas del sistema. Resultados y conclusión: La eficacia y los resultados de las pruebas del sistema de gestión muestran que la precisión de las señales fisiológicas alcanza el 90%. Nivel de evidencia II; Estudios terapéuticos - investigación de los resultados del tratamiento.

ABSTRACT

Este proyecto de investigación 2021 desarrollado por la Escuela de Ingeniería en Computación de ITCA-FEPADE, tuvo como objetivo usar las tecnologías para ayudar a mejorar el comportamiento de la comunidad educativa en pandemia Covid-19. Es un sistema inteligente para la medición del comportamiento humano con relación al cumplimiento del protocolo de bioseguridad Covid-19, implementando tecnologías de Internet del Comportamiento IoB, Internet de las Cosas IoT, Business Intelligence, Big Data y reconocimiento facial. La primera fase consistió en la toma de requerimientos y el estudio de investigaciones previas. Posteriormente se diseñó la interfaz del aplicativo que interpreta los datos colectados y la estructura de un dispensador inteligente de alcohol gel para ser impreso en 3D. Finalmente se realizó la programación del sistema y del circuito que conforman el dispositivo. Como resultado se construyó un dispositivo inteligente que mide y alerta la temperatura, dispensa alcohol gel y toma de fotografía para reconocimiento facial en la portación correcta de mascarilla. Incorpora un sistema informático que procesa los datos colectados que son utilizados por la aplicación de Inteligencia de Negocios para analizar el comportamiento de las personas ante el cumplimiento del protocolo de bioseguridad para Covid-19. El resultado del proyecto es un dispositivo inteligente y automatizado, que dotará a la institución de una herramienta innovadora de bajo costo para medir el comportamiento de la población que hace uso de las instalaciones de ITCA-FEPADE Sede Central y contribuirá a prevenir contagios por Covid-19, dando mayor seguridad a un retorno presencial al campus.


This research project was carried out in 2021 by the Escuela de Ingeniería en Computación of ITCA-FEPADE and aimed to use technologies to improve the behavior of the educational community in the context of Covid-19 pandemic. A smart system was development for measuring human behavior in relation to compliance with the Covid-19 biosafety protocol, implementing Internet of Behavior (IoB), Internet of Things (IoT), Business Intelligence, Big Data and facial recognition technologies. The first phase consisted on the identification of requirements and previous investigations. Subsequently, the application interface that interprets the collected data and the structure of a smart hand sanitizer dispenser to be printed in 3D was designed. Finally, the programming of the system and the circuit that make up the device was carried out. As a result, a smart device that measures and alerts the body temperature, dispenses hand sanitizer and applies facial recognition for the detection of proper face mask wearing was built. The device also incorporates a computer system that processes the collected data that to analyze the behavior of people in compliance with the biosafety protocol for Covid-19 through the Business Intelligence application. The result of the project was a smart and automated device that will provide the institution an innovative, low-cost tool to measure the behavior of the population that makes use of the ITCA-FEPADE Sede Central facilities and will contribute to preventing Covid-19 infections by giving greater safety to a face-to-face return to the facilities.

ABSTRACT

Aiming at the current situation of medical equipment management, Shanghai Sixth People′s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine explored the application of 5G+ Internet of Things and digital twin technology in the intelligent management of medical equipment. Through the intelligent perception terminal, the hospital realized the dynamic acquisition of real data such as the use location, use process and use efficiency of medical equipment, and conducted digital, networked and intelligent monitoring and analysis. At the same time, applications such as medical equipment dynamic management software, medical equipment real-time positioning software, and space environment quality monitoring software were developed. It realized automatic, intelligent and visual management of medical equipment configuration, operation and performance evaluation, achieved fine management based on digital twins, and improved the efficiency of collaborative management of operational resource support.

Resumo Objetivo Identificar na literatura as gerontecnologias Internet das Coisas desenvolvidas para prevenção de acidentes por quedas em idosos. Métodos Revisão integrativa, realizada de janeiro a maio de 2020. Foram critérios de inclusão artigos, sem restrição de período ou idioma com indivíduos de 60 anos ou mais, que abordem a utilização de gerontecnologia Internet das Coisas para prevenção de quedas. Excluíram-se artigos duplicados. A busca foi realizada pela estratégia PIE (População, Intervenção, Efeito/Avaliação), resultando na pergunta: "Quais as gerontecnologias Internet das Coisas desenvolvidas para prevenção de acidentes por quedas em idosos disponíveis na literatura?". Foi realizada nas bases de dados MEDLINE/PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL, Scopus e Web of Science. Identificaram-se ano, tipo de estudo, país, profissionais envolvidos, desfecho, local de desenvolvimento e classificação em gerontecnologia Internet das Coisas e protótipos. Resultados Identificaram-se 23 gerontecnologias Internet das Coisas. Os anos de 2018 e 2019 apresentaram maiores números de publicações. Ocorreu predominância de estudos descritivos, por profissionais da ciência da computação e engenheiros e desenvolvidos na Europa, Ásia, América do Norte e Oceania. Encontraram-se oito gerontecnologias Internet das Coisas e 15 protótipos, sendo sete sensores, cinco dispositivos, três jogos sérios e sistemas, dois robôs e um exergames, realidade virtual e aplicativo. A maioria das gerontecnologias buscava melhora da mobilidade e equilíbrio, sendo cinco desenvolvidas em ambiente hospitalar e domiciliar, respectivamente. Conclusão As gerontecnologias Internet das Coisas podem ser utilizadas como recursos para auxiliar na prevenção de quedas e no fortalecimento da capacidade funcional. Todavia, fazem-se necessárias pesquisas futuras para analisar a eficácia deste tipo de tecnologia para prevenção de quedas em idosos.


Resumen Objetivo Identificar en la literatura las gerontecnologías internet de las cosas desarrolladas para la prevención accidentes por caídas en adultos mayores. Métodos Revisión integradora, realizada de enero a mayo de 2020. Los criterios de inclusión fueron artículos, sin restricción de período o idioma, con individuos de 60 años o más, que abordaran la utilización de gerontecnologías internet de las cosas para la prevención de caídas. Se excluyeron artículos duplicados. La búsqueda fue realizada mediante la estrategia PIE (población, intervención, efecto/evaluación), que dio como resultado la pregunta "¿Cuáles son las gerontecnologías internet de las cosas desarrolladas para la prevención de accidentes por caídas en adultos mayores disponibles en la literatura?". Se realizó en las bases de datos MEDLINE/PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL, Scopus y Web of Science. Se identificó el año, tipo de estudio, país, profesionales involucrados, resultado, lugar de desarrollo y clasificación en gerontecnologías internet de las cosas. Resultados Se identificaron 23 gerontecnologías internet de las cosas. Los años 2018 y 2019 presentaron mayores números de publicaciones. Hubo predominancia de estudios descriptivos, por profesionales de ciencias de la comunicación e ingenieros y desarrollados en Europa, Asia, América del Norte y Oceanía. Se encontraron ocho gerontecnologías internet de las cosas y 15 prototipos, de los cuales siete eran sensores, cinco dispositivos, tres juegos serios y sistemas, dos robots y un exergames, realidad virtual y aplicación. La mayoría de los gerontecnologías buscaba una mejora de la movilidad y el equilibrio, de las cuales cinco fueron desarrolladas en ambiente hospitalario y domiciliario. Conclusión Las gerontecnologías internet de las cosas pueden ser utilizadas como recurso para ayudar en la prevención de caídas y en el fortalecimiento de la capacidad funcional. Sin embargo, es necesario llevar a cabo estudios futuros para analizar la eficacia de este tipo de tecnología para la prevención de caídas en adultos mayores.


Abstract Objective To identify in the literature the Internet of Things gerontechnology developed to prevent accidents by falls in older adults. Methods This integrative review was carried out from January to May 2020. Articles without period or language restriction with individuals aged 60 years or older addressing the use of Internet of Things gerontechnology for fall prevention were included. Duplicate articles were excluded. The search was performed by the PIE strategy (Population, Intervention, Effect/Assessment), resulting in the question: "What Internet of Things gerontechnology developed for accident prevention by falls in older adults available in the literature?". It was performed in the MEDLINE/PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science databases. Year, type of study, country, professionals involved, outcome, development site and classification in Internet of Things gerontechnology and prototypes were identified. Results Twenty-three Internet of Things gerontechnology were identified. The years 2018 and 2019 had higher numbers of publications. There was a predominance of descriptive studies by computer science professionals and engineers and developed in Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania. Eight Internet of Things gerontechnology and 15 prototypes were found, seven sensors, five devices, three serious games and systems, two robots and one exergames, virtual reality and application. Most gerontechnology sought to improve mobility and balance, five of which were developed in the hospital and home environments, respectively. Conclusion The Internet of Things gerontechnology can be used as resources to assist in fall prevention and strengthening functional capacity. However, future research is needed to analyze the effectiveness of this type of technology for fall prevention in older adults.

RESUMEN Introducción: el internet de las cosas ofrece nuevas oportunidades de acceso a datos, servicios específicos en la educación, seguridad y asistencia sanitaria, entre otros campos. Objetivo: realizar una revisión de la literatura existente sobre aspectos que definen el internet de las cosas en el ámbito de la salud pública. Métodos: se realizó una investigación documental de la literatura en diversas bases de datos académicas y motores de búsqueda; (MEDLINE, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar y Google Books) y sitios web corporativos e institucionales (Cisco, Naciones Unidas y Organización Mundial de la Salud). Se utilizaron los siguientes descriptores: internet de las cosas, conectividad, salud pública, salud móvil, epidemiología, aprendizaje automático, aprendizaje profundo e inteligencia artificial. Se revisaron documentos siguiendo el método que incluye la identificación de la pregunta de investigación (con base en el objetivo) y los estudios relevantes, seguido de la selección de los escritos y el cotejo, resumen y presentación de los resultados. Desarrollo: los conceptos y opiniones se estructuraron en tres capítulos donde se exponen las ideas esenciales relacionadas con el tema objeto de estudio: origen del internet de las cosas, el internet de las cosas en salud pública y conclusiones. Conclusiones: el internet de las cosas representa para el área de salud pública una posibilidad innovadora para entender y atender el fenómeno salud-enfermedad de las poblaciones, y proporcionar una red de colaboración entre individuos sustentado en la conformación de una arquitectura de la participación desde un enfoque inteligente.


ABSTRACT Introduction: the internet of things offers new opportunities for access to data, specific services in education, security and health care, among other fields. Objective: to carry out a review of the existing literature on aspects that define the internet of things in the field of public health. Methods: a documentary research of the literature was carried out in various academic databases and search engines; (MEDLINE, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Google Books) and corporation and institutional websites (Cisco, United Nations and World Health Organization). The following descriptors were used: internet of things, connectivity, public health, mobile health, epidemiology, machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence. Documents were reviewed following the method that includes the identification of the research question (based on the objective) and the relevant studies, followed by the selection of the writings and the comparison, summary and presentation of the results. Development: the concepts and opinions were structured in three chapters where the essential ideas related to the subject under study are presented: origin of the internet of things, the internet of things in public health and conclusions. Conclusions: the internet of things represents an innovative possibility for the area of public health to understand and attend to the health-disease phenomenon of populations, and to provide a network of collaboration between individuals based on the creation of an architecture of participation from a smart approach.

La internet de las cosas ha mantenido un crecimiento continuo en los últimos años. Las potencialidades de uso que muestra en diferentes campos han sido ampliamente documentadas. Su utilización efectiva en el campo de la salud puede traer consigo mejoras en la eficiencia de los tratamientos médicos, prevenir situaciones de riesgo, ayudar a elevar la calidad del servicio y proporcionar soporte a la toma de decisiones. La presente revisión profundiza en aspectos medulares de su utilización con el objetivo de explorar las principales tendencias y desafíos relacionados con la creciente utilización de la internet de las cosas en la salud, prestando mayor atención a los aspectos relacionados con las arquitecturas utilizadas para el despliegue de sistemas de internet de las cosas en ese ámbito, el manejo de la seguridad de estos sistemas y las herramientas para el apoyo a la toma de decisiones empleadas. Mediante el análisis documental se logra mostrar las principales características de estos sistemas, así como su arquitectura, herramientas utilizadas para la gestión de los datos capturados y mecanismos de seguridad. La utilización de la internet de las cosas en el campo de la salud tiene gran impacto, mejorando la vida de millones de personas en todo el mundo y brindando grandes oportunidades para el desarrollo de sistemas inteligentes de salud(AU)


The internet of things has maintained continuous growth in recent years. The potentialities of use that it shows in different fields have been widely documented. Its effective use in the field of health can bring improvements in the efficiency of medical treatments, prevention of risky situations, help raising the quality of service and provide support for decision-making. The present review explores into core aspects of its use in order to analyze trends, challenges and strengths. Document analysis was used to show the main characteristics of these systems, as well as their architecture, tools used for the management of the captured data and security mechanisms. The use of the internet of things in the health field has a great impact, improving the lives of millions of people around the world and providing great opportunities for the development of intelligent health systems(AU)
