ABSTRACT

The red doctor’s spirit is an important spiritual guidance for the cultivation of medical talents during the development of medical and health services in China. The teaching reform, which is oriented towards position competence, requires that students majoring in public health management should not only master solid medical knowledge and professional skills, but also possess an ability to handle medical public relations, such as shaping an excellent image of the organization, improving the medical interpersonal communication, and managing public relations crisis. Under the guidance of inheriting the red gene and innovating the medical education, the driving force of learning should be "serving the people to improve their health" led by "political firmness" , the learning goal "striving for perfection" inspired by "excellent technology" , and the working criterion "respecting patients, involving full participation and shouldering public responsibility" embodied in "making selfless dedication and helping the wounded and dying" . The article based on the characteristic culture of red medicine in the Air Force Medical University, applied the teaching method of role-playing case simulations to explore the teaching practice road of "theory-experience-practice-reflection" .

ABSTRACT

【Objective:】 To explore the effect of metacognition on self-directed learning ability of undergraduate nursing students, and the role of interpersonal communication ability and sense of self-worth between them. 【Methods:】 A total of 905 undergraduate nursing students from six colleges and universities in Shaanxi were selected as the survey subjects by convenient sampling method during August to November 2022. Metacognitive Assessment Inventory, Self-Directed Learning Ability Measurement Scale for Nursing Students, Adolescent Sense of Total Self-Worth Scale, and Supportive Communication Scale were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on undergraduate nursing students. SPSS 25.0 software was used for statistical analysis of the data. 【Results:】 Finally, 854 valid questionnaires (94.36%) were collected, and the results showed that: a) Metacognition of undergraduate nursing students significantly positively predicted self-directed learning ability (β=0.172, P<0.001). b) Interpersonal communication ability played a partial mediating role between metacognition and self-directed learning ability [β=0.019, 95%CI: 0.004~0.034)] . c) The predictive effect of metacognition on self-directed learning ability was regulated by the level of self-worth (R2=0.314, P<0.001). 【Conclusion:】 This paper indicated that the metacognition of undergraduate nursing students indirectly affects their self-learning ability through interpersonal communication ability, and their sense of self-worth plays a moderating role. It is recommended to improve the metacognitive level of undergraduate nursing students, strengthen their interpersonal communication skills, and focus on the cultivation of self-worth, so as to improve their self-directed learning ability.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to identify the entrepreneurial tendency and the level of interpersonal communication competence of students of the associate degree in Hospital Management (HM) course. A cross-sectional, quantitative, multicenter study was carried out, which brought together two of the four federal institutions that offer the course in Brazil. Data collection took place online, in July 2021, using an electronic form consisting of three sections: characterization of participants; the General measure of Enterprising Tendency (GET) test; and the Interpersonal Communication Competency Scale (ICCS). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. The sample consisted of 142 students, with a mean age of 26.65 (±8.8) years old, and a prevalence of women (109; 76.8%) and of students who attended high school entirely in the public school system (95; 66.9%). The GET dimension with the best performance was "Impulse and Determination", with an average of 9.08. In the dimensions "Creative Tendency" and "Propensity toward Calculated Risks", no participant obtained the maximum score. As for the ICCS, the total average (65.10) revealed a good level of competence in interpersonal communication. The highest average obtained was in the "Self-disclosure" domain, while the lowest was in the "Interaction Management" domain. A very low level of general entrepreneurial tendency and a good level of competence in interpersonal communication in the students of the HET course in Hospital Management were elucidated, which reveals possible ways to improve the entrepreneurial education of this course.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the relationship between each dimension of emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication ability, and explore how to improve the interpersonal communication ability of residents through targeted emotional intelligence training. Methods:A total of 132 first-year residents of clinical medicine in the residency training base were jointly measured with emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication evaluation scale on the basis of self-assessment and grading. The differences between groups in self-assessment and grading were detected by one-way ANOVA, and the relationship between various dimensions of emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication ability was explored by correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. SPSS 19.0 was used to conduct statistical analysis. Results:The self rating scale clearly divided the subjects into three levels. In the total score of emotional intelligence and its various dimensions, the differences between the three levels were statistically significant; the scores of the "good" group were higher than those of the "fair" group and the "slightly insufficient" group. There were statistical significance in the total score of emotional intelligence ( P<0.001) and its emotional perception ( P<0.001), self emotional management ( P<0.001), others' emotional management ( P<0.001) and emotional utilization ( P<0.001). In the total score of interpersonal communication ability and its various dimensions, the differences among the three levels were statistically significant. In the conflict management, the difference between the "good" group and the "fair" group was not statistically significant, and the differences in other items were statistically significant. The total score of emotional intelligence and its dimensions were positively correlated with interpersonal communication ability ( P<0.001), but the two dimensions that had the most significant impact on interpersonal communication ability were emotional perception and others' emotional management ( R2=0.531, P<0.001). Conclusion:By focusing on the cultivation of each dimensions of emotional perception and other emotional management for residents, it is expected to play a positive role in achieving the national goal of cultivating interpersonal communication skills.

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the role of exposure to mass media and interpersonal communication in predicting the current use of contraception in Bangladesh. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were carried out using the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS), 2011 data to explore the association between communication and the current use of contraception. After adjusting the related socioeconomic and demographic factors, the mass media did not seem to have any role in predicting contraceptive use behavior while the findings revealed that interpersonal communication [prevalence ratio (PR): 1.0984, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.0801-1.1170] is a strong positive predictor of the current contraceptive use. It is a well-known fact that mass media performs only the knowledge function while interpersonal communication performs an additional function of persuasion. This analysis corroborates the statement that the role of interpersonal communication is quite important in predicting contraceptive use.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the concordance between self and standardized patient (SP) ratings of medical students' communication skills. METHODS: Forty-three students interviewed SPs. The students were asked to complete a communication skills questionnaire that comprised 2 measures (empathy and interpersonal communication) before the interview. After each student's interview with the SP, the latter completed the same questionnaire as the students. RESULTS: Based on Lin's concordance coefficient, there was strong disconcordance between students' self-ratings and the SPs' ratings. With regard to empathic communication, more than 50% of students who considered themselves higher than middle level were regarded by SP as low level. On interpersonal communication, 39% of students who assessed themselves as higher than middle level were scored low level by SPs. CONCLUSION: There was strong disconcordance between students' self-ratings and the SPs' ratings-students tended to overevaluate themselves regarding their communication skills. These differences might result in patient dissatisfaction and noncompliance. Further, it could become a serious hindrance to the development of a good doctor-patient relationship. Medical educators should make sincere efforts to reduce this gap by teaching medical students the importance of the patients' perception of his doctors' communication skills.

ABSTRACT

Due to the changes that are taking place in the health system nowadays, hospitals should foster the implementation of interpersonal communication as a tool to promote the employee´s motivation and professional commitment with their hospital, especially among the doctors and the nurses. The three main action fields in which interpersonal communication could enhance the grade of the hospital employees´ motivation are: a) internal transmission of the corporate culture; b) investigation actions with focus on the patient´s behavior and expectations; and c) external partnerships with the aim of supporting the employee´s professional activities (e.g. across the execution of clinical trials).
