ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: Identify the nursing staff's perception of their relationship with families of newborns and children who are in the process of death and dying. Methods: Qualitative research, carried out in the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of a public maternity hospital in Rio Grande do Norte, with 17 nursing professionals, through a semi-structured interview. After being transcribed, the data were subjected to Bardin's content analysis and interpreted in the light of the theory of Interpersonal Relations proposed by Travelbee. Results: Four categories emerged from the analysis: "Caring and welcoming people, feelings and stories"; "Reactions in the midst of pain: moving between acceptance and suffering"; "Communication of bad news: challenges and strategies"; "The weight of caring and suffering". Final considerations: Family assistance can be established using Travelbee's principles, as they offer timely theoretical support for nursing actions in the context of the process of death and dying.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: to elaborate an instrument for the measurement of the interpersonal relationship in nursing care through the Item Response Theory, and the validation thereof. Method: methodological study, which followed the three poles of psychometry: theoretical, empirical and analytical. The Nursing Care Interpersonal Relationship Questionnaire was developed in light of the Imogene King's Interpersonal Conceptual Model and the psychometric properties were studied through the Item Response Theory in a sample of 950 patients attended in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Health Care. Results: the final instrument consisted of 31 items, with Cronbach's alpha of 0.90 and McDonald's Omega of 0.92. The parameters of the Item Response Theory demonstrated high discrimination in 28 items, being developed a five-level interpretive scale. At the first level, the communication process begins, gaining a wealth of interaction. Subsequent levels demonstrate qualitatively the points of effectiveness of the interpersonal relationship with the involvement of behaviors related to the concepts of transaction and interaction, followed by the concept of role. Conclusion: the instrument was created and proved to be consistent to measure interpersonal relationship in nursing care, as it presented adequate reliability and validity parameters.

ABSTRACT

Objective: to characterize social networks of pregnant women with and without extreme maternal morbidity. Methodology: a case-control study through a social network analysis of six hundred pregnant women: 150 with extreme maternal morbidities diagnosis and 450 who went to maternal services for different reasons. Women were hospitalized between 2011 and 2012 and they responded a social network characterization survey. Findings: in general, women reported satisfactory, strong and long relationships. For cases, antecedents of aggression, a wider social network and more satisfaction were statistically associated. This could be a bias due the type of the study. It's necessary a deeply knowledge of this relation.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the factors that affect subjective well-being in nursing students. METHODS: A total of 236 nursing students participated in the study. Data was collected from November through December 2013 using a self-reporting questionnaire that surveyed the level of gratitude, interpersonal relationship ability, subjective happiness, and life satisfaction. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. RESULTS: Subjective happiness positively correlated with gratitude (r=.41, p<.001) and interpersonal relationship ability (r=.55, p<.001). Life satisfaction positively correlated with gratitude (r=.53, p<.001) and interpersonal relationship ability (r=.37, p<.001). Significant predictors of subjective happiness included gratitude (beta=.38, p<.001), interpersonal relationship ability (beta=.28, p<.001) and major satisfaction (beta=.17, p=.002). The regression model explained 39.3% of subjective happiness. Significant predictors of life satisfaction included gratitude (beta=.42, p<.001), academic achievement (beta=.15, p=.006), interpersonal relationship ability (beta=.16, p=.008) and major satisfaction (beta=.12, p=.035). The regression model explained 35.3% of life satisfaction. ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore status of activity of daily living, interpersonal relationship, depression and health-related quality of life in patients with traumatic hand injury and identify factors that influence health-related quality of life. METHODS: The participants were 104 outpatients with impending hand microsurgery from D city. The data were analyed using Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical regression with SPSS/WIN 12.0. RESULTS: There were statistically significant differences in HRQoL to gender, age, marital state, and level of pain. HRQoL had significant correlations with ADL, IADL, relationship change, and depression. In regression analysis, depression, marital state, ADL, and level of pain explained 48% of the HRQoL. CONCLUSION: Findings of this study allow a comprehensive understanding of patients with traumatic hand injury. It is necessary to develop nursing intervention program for improving the health-related quality of life in patients with traumatic hand injury by considering psychological care for depression as well as physical care.
