ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of penetrating moxibustion plus short joint needling in treating restless leg syndrome (RLS).Methods Ninety RLS patients were randomized to treatment and control groups,45 cases each. The treatment group received penetrating moxibustion plus short joint needling and the control group, conventional medication (vitamin B tablets, vitamin B12 tablets and alprazolam tablets). The Restless Leg Syndrome Rating Scale (RLSRS) score and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score were recorded in the two groups before and after 30 days of treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the groups. Results There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the RLSRS and PSQI scores in both groups (P<0.05).There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the RLSRS and PSQI scores between the treatment and control groups (P<0.05).The total efficacy rate was 95.6% in the treatment group and 42.2% in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Penetrating moxibustion plus short joint needling is an effective way to treat RLS.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA).MethodEighty KOApatients were randomized into atreatmentgroup and a control group. Thetreatmentgroup was intervened by joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling. The control group was intervened by ordinary acupuncture. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) from the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) was adopted to evaluate the pain intensity.Result The total effective rate was 92.5% in thetreatmentgroup, versus 87.5% inthe control group, and there was a significant difference in comparing the VAS score between thetreatmentgroup and the control group after intervention (P<0.05), indicating that the treatmentgroup had advantages in the improvement of the motor function of knee joint.ConclusionIn treating KOA, joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling has advantages in improving the motor function compared with ordinary acupuncture.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of efficacy of joint needling plus warm-unblocking needling method in treating knee osteoarthritis. Method Three hundred and twenty patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomly allocated to a treatment (joint needling plus warm-unblocking needling method) group of 161 cases and a control (acupuncture alone) group of 159 cases. Result The total efficacy rate was 90.7%in the treatment group and 79.9%in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference in therapeutic effect between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Joint needling plus warm-unblocking needling method is more effective than acupuncture alone in treating knee osteoarthritis.
