ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this article is to present a description and analysis of the scientific production in Epidemiology of the Journal Ciência & Saúde Coletiva since its creation in 1996. The titles and abstracts of all articles published in three periods (1996 to 2002, 2011 and 2019) were read and those related to Epidemiology were analyzed. These publications were classified according to the thematic area, study design, sampling method and sample size, and place of origin of the first author. The percentage of epidemiological articles published in the journal jumped from 12.8% in the first period to 31.0% in 2011, and to 55.3% in 2019. The most studied topics were chronic non-communicable diseases (20.3%), nutritional epidemiology (12.2%) and evaluation of health systems, policies, programs and services (10.9%). Descriptive/cross-sectional studies, conducted among adults and from the Southeast region, predominated. The results indicate the need for greater participation of cohort studies, case-control and clinical trials in the scope of the journal's publications, in addition to articles that use more sophisticated statistical methods and well-defined theoretical models, which may contribute in a more relevant way to prevention and control of health problems.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACTIntroduction:The medical congresses are an efficient way, although restricted, to expose the scientific production of a particular specialty. However, the number of complete articles published resulting from papers presented at congresses and published as abstracts is much lower than the number of papers presented during the meetings. Objective:Scale the number of complete articles published and indexed in online databases, from 2012 to January 2015, originally presented at the 28th Congresso Brasileiro de Patologia (28th Brazilian Congress of Pathology) and the 28th Congreso de la Sociedad Latinoamericana de Patología (28th Latin American Society of Pathology Congress).Material and method:In the meetings mentioned 701 papers were presented and their abstracts published in the congresses annals. An observational retrospective study was conducted consulting the following biomedical databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and US National Library of Medicine on the National Institutes of Health (PubMed), with the help of the Google search engine, based on the article title and the list of authors. Results:From 701 studies analyzed, 635 (90.6%) were from Brazilian institutions, 60 (8.6%) from foreign institutions, and six (0.8%) did not identified their home institutions. There were found 63 (8.8%) complete articles published and indexed to consulted databases. International journals were the destination of 38 (60.3%) publications. Conclusion:The number of complete articles published in Pathology area arising from the papers presented in the studied meetings in the first three years after the meetings is relatively small. This number is low compared with other international conferences; however, it is higher than some Brazilian medical congresses analyzed in similar studies.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The field of home physical therapy care has expanded to realize the importance of the home context for the care of patients. In this setting, the physical therapist makes an evaluation and elaborates a care plan outlining a physical and functional diagnosis at the home level, which provides more comfort and mobility for the patient that can be restricted to bed or be incapable to move to seek care in specialized clinics. The home care approach demands of this professional the development of broader way of seeing a patient that understands the home context and the nuances of parental relationships to implement a methodology of care with the family, which transforms this setting in a potential space of care. Such approach, however, faces difficulties for its theoretical and practice fundamentalization, due to the lack of knowledge existent because of the shortage of publications about this issue in the most important databases, which makes difficult to proof the efficacy of this service. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study is to publish the results found about the state of the art in the field of home physical therapy care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was based on an extensive literature review performed on the Capes Journals Portal, BIREME, MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and also on Google Scholar from the years of 1998 to 2008, using the following key words: family, home, home physical therapy, physical therapy, and home care. RESULTS: The preliminary results showed the need of more research in this area and the importance of studying the theme of home physical therapy care.

The present study describes the distribution and several of the characteristics of scientific articles published between 1990 and 2006 that describe secondary data from the Brazilian Information Systems on Mortality (SIM), from the Information System on Live Births (SINASC), and the Hospital Information System (SIH). A bibliographic search on the MEDLINE/PubMed database, using MeSH (Medical Subject Headings), called up 294 articles. We analyzed variables referring to the articles, the authors, and the periodicals in which the articles were published. The number of publications and editions in English increased fourfold during this period. There was also an increase in the number of journals studied at the researchers'host institutions, in the simultaneous use of databases and in research on non-transmittable diseases (especially from cardiovascular and external causes). The results suggest a considerable increase in Brazilian scientific production using data from SIM, SINASC, and/or SIH.
