ABSTRACT

Leucorrhoea i.e. Shwetapradar is universal problem of women which is caused by increased stress, strain, improper diet & unhygienic conditions. Most commonly used treatment according to modern science is vaginal pessaries which act fast & give symptomatic relief but they have chances of recurrence. Ayurveda advocates healthy lifestyle including proper diet & treatment regime to manage such diseases & its recurrence. According to Ayurveda Ahar is the main reason for being healthy or diseased. Considering this, a clinical study has been planned with an aim of “To evaluate the role of Takra & Odan as Ahar along with Nagkeshar churna in Shwetapradar”. For the study, 60 patients having symptoms of Shwetapradar were selected & divided in two groups randomly. Trial group (Group A) was treated with Nagkeshar churna along with Takra & Odan as Ahar whereas control group (Group B) was treated with Nagkeshar churna alone for 21 days with weekly follow up. After the completion of study it was observed that relief obtained in symptoms was faster in Group A than in Group B. Also relief obtained was much more in Group A than in Group B. Hence study was concluded that the formulation stimulates astringent action in vaginal mucosa and reduces excessive vaginal discharge & pelvic congestion. Thus dietary modifications play a significant role in curing Shwetapradar.

ABSTRACT

Background: Leucorrhea is a major problem in gynecological practice. It can be "physiological" or "pathological." Common pathological causes are infections, cervicitis, atrophy, malignant and premalignant lesions of cervix. Aims: To study the cervical cytology in women with leucorrhoea, to find any relation with age and parity, and evaluate the role of cytology in detecting lesions of cervix. Methods and Material: Observational cross-sectional study. Total 2176 women with leucorrhoea were studied. Cervical scrape smears were taken with Ayre's spatula. Statistical analysis was done wherever applicable. Result/Conclusions: Most common finding in cervical smears in leucorrhoea is Reactive Cellular Changes followed by "Organisms", Candida being the most common. Prevalence of "Epithelial cell abnormality" and squamous cell carcinoma increases with increasing age and parity, whereas prevalence of NILM is associated with younger age and lower parity. Epithelial Cell Abnormalities can also manifest as leucorrhoea. Therefore, regular screening of women with leucorrhoea is must.

ABSTRACT

Background: Leucorrhoea is the clinical evidence of infection and can be treated satisfactorily whenever diagnosed. Occurrence of cervical cancer associated with discharge/leucorrhoea can be easily prevented if detected early. Majority of patients attending hospital present with varying degree of vaginal discharge and cytological monitoring of these subjects is mandatory to know any cellular changes in the cervical epithelium as well as the presence of any sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) in the genital tract. Materials and methods: This research study was done at Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences (MRIMS), Suraram, Hyderabad, Telangana State, India for a period of 2 years. A total of 500 cases were included in the study with women of age ranging from 20-50 years, complaining of Leucorrhoea. As told by the patients on questioning as a part of clinical history, the Leucorrhoea was found to be of different types white discharge, yellowish discharge, greenish discharge; blood stained and fouls smelling discharge. Smears were taken with a thorough history in particular reference to age at first child birth, parity, personal and genital hygiene, history of husband suffering from any sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal discharge, mass per vaginum, duration of labour and history of sexually transmitted diseases were elicited. Results: In our study of 500 cases, 348 (69.6 %) cases showed reactive cellular changes associated with repair (Inflammatory smear), 56 (11.2%) cases were due to various infectious agents, 32 cases P. Sujatha, V. Indira, Kandukuri Mahesh Kumar. Study of PAP smear examination in patients complaining of leucorrhoea - A 2 years prospective study in a teaching hospital. IAIM, 2016; 3(5): 106-112. Page 107 (6.4%) were of Reactive changes with Atrophic vaginitis, Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) 18 cases (3.6%), High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) 5 cases (1%), Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) 4 cases (0.8%), Atypical glandular hyperplasia 4 cases (0.8%),Suspicious of malignancy 9 cases (1.8%),Shift in flora suggesting Bacterial vaginosis 7 cases (1.4%), Normal smear/ Normal study 13 cases (2.6%) ,Unsatisfactory for evaluation as more than 75 % of smear is obscured by blood – 4 cases (0.8%). Conclusion: A Pap test (Pap smear) is a quick and simple test that checks for changes to the cells of your cervix that may lead to cervical cancer. Pap smear reduces the mortality and morbidity with cervical cancer. This cytological screening should gain much popularity and should be accessible to all. It is recommended as part of routine medical examination in gynecological practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective] Summarize the experience of diagnosis and treatment of leucorrhoea disease by professor He Jialin. [Method] By collecting medical records, from the pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation, to expound the academic viewpoints and clinical experience of professor He Jialin in treating leucorrhoea disease, summarize its academic characteristics on integrating traditional Chinese and western medicines, internal and external treatments and TCM prescription, and exemplify that. [Results] Professor He Jialin believes that the major pathogenesis is dampness, with intrinsic deficiency in spleen and kidney, explicit accumulation of damp and heat.Combined with western medicine examination methods, professor He Jialin treats the disease by invigorating the spleen for damp elimination, nourishing kidneys to consolidate thoroughfare vessel, heat-clearing and detoxicating, each therapeutic principle combined with external therapy receives a good effect. [Conclusion] Professor He Jialin's academic thoughts and clinical experience on syndrome differentiation, application method, addition or subtraction of changes provide a more complete mentality and pragmatic value in treating leucorrhoea disease.
