ABSTRACT

The most essential core of lead-edging medical humanities is "reverence for life". From the four aspects of"respecting oneself","respecting others","reverence for nature"and"facing up to disease and death", the thought of respecting life is stratified and concretized, which provides the basic theoretical basis for the cultivation of medical workers' humanistic quality. Among the four levels, "respecting for one-self"is intended to appeal to medical workers to pay attention to their own physical and mental health, and strengthen their self-recognition, self-retraining and self-cultivation. "Respecting others" means respecting patients and their families. "Reverence for nature" extends the love to the whole nature and improves the harmony and unity between man and nature. "Facing up to disease and death" aims to realize the respect of terminal point by taking a dialectical view of disease and death, guiding and assisting patients and their families to treat death positively and actively so as to go through their last station smoothly.

ABSTRACT

This writing was triggered by the advanced seminar on Ethics in research involving issues and propositions for Education and Collective Health. The seminar was held in the first semester of 2014, in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, promoted by the programs of Graduate Studies in Education and Collective Health. We brought, in this article, notes on life and encounters, taking them as an ethical task when investigating in science and in knowledge production in health. We think, there, an "education" Ethics in health care. We suggest the potency of learning permanently, during the research, why we research. Researching is accepting the unpredictable; is to letting yourself be affected; it is the ability to endure what does not stop from differ. Researching requires Ethics to what asks for passage, to the density of life and to the lability of the forms. We propose that "paraphernalia of encounter" and not the technological junk - be the trigger of the potency to the affirmation of life.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to develop a dietary life education textbook and teaching manual for creative activities of elementary school students in middle grade. First, we extracted dietary life related contents from textbooks for third and fourth grade and created systematization of contents involving educational objectives, goals, contents and activities. The development of textbook and teaching manual were based on systematization of contents. The textbook was composed of five major chapters, which were 'nutrition', 'cooking', 'environment and hygiene', 'food' and 'dietary culture'. Each major chapter having six to seven smaller chapters, adding up to a total of 34 smaller chapters. The textbook was in activity format so that can be readily and directly used in actual classes. The textbook had fun characters and various activities (particularly a lot of cooking activities) to deliver the main theme of each chapter. The teaching manual was composed of background, goal, teaching plan and teaching point. The smaller chapters had learning goal, teaching-learning resources, important points, teaching-learning process and reference material. In evaluation after operating the model school, the developed textbooks were suited for students' needs and cognitive level. ABSTRACT

The study was conducted in seven private co-educational English-medium schools in Cochin to understand adolescent attitudes in this part of the country. Queries submitted by students (n=10660) and responses to separate pretested questionnaires for boys (n=886 received) and girls (n=589 received) were analysed. The study showed a lacuna of knowledge among adolescents with the most frequently asked queries being on masturbation, and sex and sexuality. More than 50% of adolescents received information on sex and sexuality from peers; boys had started masturbating by 12yr age and 93% were doing so by 15yr age. Although 73% of girls were told about menstruation by their parents, 32% were not aware, at menarche, that such an event would occur and only 8% were aware of all aspects of maintaining menstrual hygiene. 19% of boys succumbed to peer pressure into reading/viewing pornography; more than 50% of adolescents admitted to having had an infatuation around 13 yrs of age or after. 13% of boys admitted to having been initiated into smoking by friends; mostly between 14-16 yrs age; 6.5% boys had consumed alcohol with peers or at family functions, starting between ages of 15 to 17yrs. Though >70% of adolescents were aware about AIDS, adequate knowledge about its spread and prevention was lacking.
