ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacy betweenLing Gui Ba Fa(eight magic turtle techniques) acupuncture and ordinary acupuncture in treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).Method Sixty patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The treatment group was intervened byLing Gui Ba Faacupuncture at Gongsun (SP4) and Neiguan (PC6), and the control group was intervened by ordinary needling Gongsun and Neiguan. For both groups, Tianshu (ST25), Dachangshu (BL25), Shangjuxu (ST37), Fenglong (ST40), and Pishu (BL20) were added. Theclinical efficacies of the two groups were compared by evaluating the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) clinical symptoms score and IBS Quality of Life (IBS-QOL) questionnaire. The two groups were treated 3 times a week, 10 sessions as a treatment course, andwere evaluated by using the scales before and after the treatment followed by statistical analysis and determination of the therapeutic efficacy.Result The scales were significantly improved in both groups after the treatment (P<0.05), and the improvement in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.01); the total effective rate was 90% (27/30) in the treatment group, higher than 80% (24/30) in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Ling Gui Ba Faacupuncture can produce a more significant efficacy than ordinary acupuncture in treating IBS-D, and can obviously enhance the quality of life of thepatients, providing an advantageous treatment scheme to clinic.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy ofLing Gui Ba Fa(eight methods of the sacred tortoise) plusHuang Qi Jian Zhongdecoction in treating stomachache due to deficiency-cold in spleen and stomach.MethodTotally 100 eligible subjects were randomized into an observation group and a control group. The control group was intervened byHuang Qi Jian Zhong decoction, while the observation group was additionally given acupuncture withLing Gui Ba Faneedling method.ResultTwo weeks later, the symptom and sign score in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P0.05); the recovery and markedly-effective rate was 88.0% in the observation group versus 62.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01).ConclusionLing Gui Ba Faneedling method can effectively enhance the efficacy ofHuang Qi Jian Zhongdecoction in treating stomachache due to deficiency-cold in spleen and stomach.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture with Ling Gui Ba Fa in treating diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS). Methods Sixty D-IBS patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 each. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture by selecting points according to Ling Gui Ba Fa plus Tianshu (ST 25) and Dachangshu (BL 25), while the control group was by oral administration of Pinaverium Bromide. The therapeutic efficacies were compared after 2 treatment courses. Results The markedly-effective rate and total effective rate were respectively 80.0% and 93.3%in the treatment group, versus 50.0%and 80.0%in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01, P<0.05). The total effective rates for abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea were respectively 93.3%, 86.7%, and 93.3%in the treatment group, versus 80.0%, 86.7%, and 80.0%in the control group, and the inter-group differences in comparing the total effective rate for abdominal bloating and diarrhea were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture majorly with Ling Gui Ba Fa is an effective method in treating D-IBS.
