ABSTRACT

El aburrimiento crónico (acidia) es un estado espiritual negativo del ser humano, constituido por una combinación de apatía e intranquilidad, el cual lo lleva a oscilar entre la depresión y la búsqueda frenética de distracciones de carácter autodestructivo. Además, su combinación con rasgos psicopáticos deviene en el cultivo de la malevolencia como forma aberrante de distracción. Gustave Flaubert reflejó perfectamente esta condición en el personaje de Emma en su obra Madame Bovary. (AU)


Chronic boredom (acedia) is a negative spiritual state of man, consisting of a combination of apathy and restlessness, which leads him/her to oscillate between depression and the frantic search for distractions of self-destructive character. Additionally, its combination with the presence of psychopathic traits leads do evil as a way to relieve boredom. Gustave Flaubert perfectly reflected this condition in the character of Emma in his masterpiece Madame Bovary. (AU)

Este trabajo, dedicado a la novela Madame Bovary de Gustave Flaubert, analiza la histeria de Emma Bovary mediante una redescripción de su caso en el vocabulario de Jacques Lacan. A partir de estudios de Juan David Nasio (2000) y Joël Dor (2000), se hace una lectura detallada de las relaciones amorosas de Emma Bovary, para buscar en ellas las articulaciones de su deseo histérico


This article studies Gustave Flaubert’s novel Madame Bovary, analysing Emma Bovary’s hysteria by means of a redescription of her clinical case in the vocabulary of Jacques Lacan. Starting from contributions to the Lacanian theory of hysteria by Juan David Nasio (2000) and Joël Dor (2000), the article provides a close reading of Emma’s love affairs —the main site where to observe the dynamics of her hysterical desire

ABSTRACT

Neste artigo apresento, na obra de Freud e na contribuição de outros autores a importante ligação entre Psicanálise e literatura. Faço também uma breve passagem por outras formas de arte que podem auxiliar na compreensão da psique humana. Além disso, exponho algumas passagens da obra prima de Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary no intuito de discutir acerca do estilo de escrita do autor e extrair contribuições para o entendimento psicanalítico.


In this article I present, from Freud’s work and the contribution of other authors, the important connection between Psychoanalysis and Literature. I briefly touch upon other art forms that can further understanding of the human psyche. Furthermore, I showcase some excerpts of Gustave Flaubert’s most important literary work, Madame Bovary, purporting to discuss the author’s writing style, and derive contributions toward psychoanalytical understanding.
