ABSTRACT

Shotgun based proteomics and peptidomics analysis were used to investigate the proteins and peptides in marine traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) Sepiae Endoconcha(cuttlebone). Peptides were extracted from cuttlebone by acidified methanol, and then strong cation exchange(SCX) resin was used to enrich those peptides. Also, proteins from cuttlebone were extracted and digested by trypsin. nano-LC Q Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry was used to analyze proteins and peptides from cuttlebone. As a result, a total of 16 proteins and 168 peptides were identified by protein database search, and 328 peptides were identified by De novo sequencing. The identified proteins were hemocyanin, enolase, myosin, actin, calmodulin, etc., and the identified peptides were derived from actin, histone, and tubulin. All these proteins and peptides were important components in cuttlebone, which would provide important theoretical and research basis for marine TCM cuttlebone investigations.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the methods of literature study and data analysis were used to search and collect the information of the varieties of marine traditional Chinese medicine (MTCM) recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica (CMM), in order to analyze the changes of the varieties made by the comparison of CMM and the other ancient herbal works, as well as the added varieties and their habitat distribution, property and flavor, efficacy based on the species collected in Chinese Marine Materia Medica. At the same time, the classification, five-taste, four-nature, and efficacy of MTCM recorded in CMM were deeply analyzed. The results showed that 190 species of MTCM were recorded in CMM, 12 species of which were added compared with the classic works before Ming Dynasty. The main flavors of MTCM recorded in CMM were sweet taste (29.47%) and salty taste (16.84%), the main property of them was mild (30.53%), followed by cold nature (23.16%) and warm nature (10.00%). For the efficacy, the most of them were tonic (22.11%) and clearing heat (20.53%), followed by dissolving phlegm, relieving cough and relieving asthma (8.95%), and promoting diuresis and expelling pathogenic dampness (6.32%). The varieties and characteristics of the marine traditional Chinese medicines recorded in CMM were systematically sorted out and analyzed for the first time in this paper.

ABSTRACT

Marine traditional Chinese medicine (MCM) is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It has a long history of clinical application and shows its unique advantages. The basic and industrial research represented by MCM seaweed has produced remarkable economic and social benefits, which provides a model for the comprehensive development and utilization of MCM resources. The current situation of exploitation and utilization of MCM resources is systematically discussed, and the strategies and methods of comprehensive exploitation and utilization of MCM resources are put forward. By constructing a full-value industrial chain of MCM resources, applying new technologies and new methods, and combining production, teaching and research with collaborative innovation, the utilization rate of MCM resources can be significantly improved, and the innovation level of marine biomedical industry can be raised. The implementation of the strategy of strengthening the country will promote the development of China's marine economy.

ABSTRACT

Marine traditional Chinese medicine (MTCM) is an important part of Chinese medicine (CM),there are some differences in understanding of the current literature and the extension of the connotation of marine medicine, which leads to the definition dispute of MTCM,hindering clinical application and further development of MTCM.In this study,we explored the concept of MTCM in literature, discussed the attributes of ocean marine CM,summed up the differences between the land CM and MTCM over variety characteristics, effect of drug composition characteristics and biological activity characteristics, and discussed the connotation and extension of MTCM from three aspects of theoretical basis and the effect and source of the drug, leading to the formation of the narrow and broad concept of MTCM.The five kinds of disputes in the definition of MTCM were discriminated according to the concept and connotation, which provided a theoretical basis for the definition and the research of MTCM.Moreover,we also defined the English translation and its abbreviation as Marine Traditional Chinese Medicine (MTCM).
