ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the influence of orthokeratology lenses on vision, intraocular pressure and biometric measurement parameters in adolescent myopia. Methods A total of 72 adolescent myopia patients (136 eyes) with orthokeratology lens, aged 8-16 years old,in Hebei Provincial Eye Hospital from Junuary 2013 to December 2015 were randomly selected. The vision, intraocular pressure, axial length, corneal topography, corneal thickness and anterior chamber depth were observed before wearing glasses,at 1 week,1,3,6 months after wearing glasses. Results After orthokeratology wearing, the uncorrected visual acuity was obviously improved (P<0.05),the average refraction diopter was declined (P>0.05) and the non-contact intraocular pressure was decreased (P<0.05).The axial length after orthokeratology wearing had little change (P>0.05).The curvature of the patient's cornea at one week after wearing glasses was deceased (P<0.05) and the posterior corneal curvature tended towards stability. The corneal thickness at 1 week after wearing glasses had no obvious change compared with before wearing glasses(P>0.05),which at 1 month after wearing glasses was decreased(P<0.05) and which at 3,6 months after wearing glasses trended to be stabilized. The anterior chamber depth after wearing glasses had no obvious change. Conclusion Orthkeratology lens can decrease the myopia degree, increases the uncorrected visual acuity and has obvious effect for controlling adolescent myopia. The intraocular pressure and biometric measurement parameters have corresponding change after wearing orthkeratology lens.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, there has been an increasing interest in the preservation of natural dentition and the proper occlusion related to tooth wear for quality of life. To overcome the problems of the existing qualitative tooth wear analysis method, virtual three-dimensional models have been used. This study was designed to develop and validate a new quantitative method using tooth wear measurement parameters with angles obtained from virtual vectors and planes of the three-dimensional models. Sixteen parameters were evaluated in the virtual models of 20 students (7.57+/-1.55 years old) and 20 adults (56.85+/-6.34 years old). There were 12 angle and 4 height parameters, and the number of parameters measured from the virtual planes and vectors were 10 and 6, respectively. For each parameter, means and standard deviations were calculated, and an unpaired sample t test was performed to compare the young and the adult groups. Also, differences between the means were determined and expressed as percentages. The results were statistically significant between the two groups (P<0.001). In general, parameters using virtual vectors showed greater change than virtual plane. Although there were statistically significant differences among all parameters using virtual planes (P<0.001), the changes of the three angles were similar, except distolingual cusp angle. It was found that the parameters using virtual vectors were effective and tooth wear took place in both buccal and lingual cusps. Likewise, the validation of the new measurement parameters suggests that they can also be applied in the assessment of tooth wear related to dental biomaterials.

ABSTRACT

The diagnosis of the hip diseases and the judgment of the treatment are based on the measurement parameters with X-rays that mainly defined as anterposterior pelvis radiographs of the hip joint. The data of the measurement changes in different ages due to the growth and development of children's bodies. There are varies of parameters attempt to improve the evaluation of the hip joint. The review focuses on the Chinese and English literature since 1930s,and summarizes the introduction of the history and current condition, modified progress of methods and data analysis of measuring results.

ABSTRACT

Hand grip strength is a useful measurement for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, since this disease is often associated with functional anomalies of the hands and a consequent reduction in muscular strength. Thus, the standardization of the test protocol is important in relation to make reproducible and reliable studies. The aim of this systematic review was to verify the parameters associated with the measurement of the hand grip strength in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. The review was carried out according to the recommendations of PRISMA, based on the databases of the Web of Science and the Journals Website of the Brazilian governmental agency CAPES. The following inclusion criteria were established: articles whose themes involved dynamometry to measure the hand grip in adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis, published in English between 1990 and 2012. The articles were selected by two independent reviewers. Initially, 628 articles were identified, and in the final review only 40 were included in the qualitative synthesis, that is, those in which the main tool used to evaluate the hand grip strength was the Jamar®. In relation to the hand grip strength parameters feedback type, hand dominance, repetitions, contraction intensity, acquisition time and rest period many data are imprecise and were not detailed in the method description. It is clear that there is a need for the standardization of a protocol which establishes the type of dynamometer and the parameters to be evaluated and also takes into consideration the clinical conditions of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
