ABSTRACT

Penile strangulation due to the metallic ring is an uncommon clinical entity that requires urgent attention to prevent irreversible nerve damage, and if neglected gangrene of the penis. Various methods have been described in the literature for removing constricting foreign bodies, but there is no consensus regarding an acceptable technique. We report the case of a 51-year-old man with a history of a metal ring used for sexual pleasure lodged over the shaft of his penis with an inability to remove the same.

ABSTRACT

Ring removal is indicated in a number of clinical circumstances to manage or prevent tourniquet effect of the digit. A ring made from hardened metal may defy commonly known methods of removal. We reported a case of unusual difficulty in removing a ring of hardened metal composition using a dental drill. We believed the unusual circumstances of this case is likely to be repeated in some other clinical practice and this instrument is an appropriate option to consider in such cases.

ABSTRACT

Strangulation developed after applying constricting objects around the penis is occasionally encountered in the emergency room. As this kind of strangulation can result in penile gangrene or urethral injury, removal of constricting objects should be urgent and presents a great challenge to the physician. We report a case of urinary retention and sepsis due to penile strangulation by metal ring in a 68-year-old man and review the literature.

ABSTRACT

A hysterographic analysis of 80 women in the Xi'an area demonstrates that No. 20 and No. 21 metal IUD are of the most suitable models. The main cause of frequent spontaneous expulsion of the metal IUD is found to be the abnormal morphology of the uterine cavity.
