ABSTRACT

Multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma is a rare subtype of renal cell carcinoma with multiple variable sized, non-communicating fluid-filled cystic spaces. It is often very difficult to differentiate multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma from non-neoplastic, and other malignant neoplastic mass clinically and radiologically. The tumor is usually shown in low grade and low stage. Surgical treatment results in good prognosis. We report a case of multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma which was presumptively diagnosed preoperatively, confirmed intraoperatively by frozen section examination of tissue, and treated with wedge resection in a 43-year-old man.

ABSTRACT

Benign cystic mesothelioma (BCM) is a rare mesothelial lesion that forms multicystic masses in the upper abdomen, pelvis and retroperitoneum. Although it is categorized as a benign lesion, it has a tendency to recur. It is uncertain whether the nature of this lesion is reactive or neoplastic, but many articles support the conclusion that it is reactive rather than neoplastic. The majority of cases were associated with a history of a previous abdominal or pelvic operation, or an evidence of endometriosis or a pelvic inflammatory disease, or a combination of these findings. In a 26-year-old woman we experienced a case of BCM which was incidentally discovered at cesarean delivery revealing multilocular thin and translucent walled cysts in the pelvic cavity. Microscopic examination revealed a thin cyst wall that was composed of fibrous connective tissue and lined by internal stratified and external nonstratified single cuboidal epithelia.

ABSTRACT

Multilocular cyst of the kidney is a rare pathologic entity, noninherited benign renal neoplasm occurring in the both children and adults. The entities commonly were known as multilocular cyst of the kidney or multilocular cystic nephroma. The controversy over the pathogenesis of multilocular cyst-neoplasm versus developmental anomaly- is still unsettled. We report two cases of multilocular renal cyst, one in a 8-year-old child with a chief complaint of gross hematuria and another in a 44-year-old woman with epigastric discomfortness. They were preoperatively suspected multilocular cyst by ultrasonography and computed tomography. We performed a simple nephrectomy as the treatment of choice because of the difficulty in accurate diagnosis and the documented association with renal neoplasia.

ABSTRACT

Multilocular renal cyst is an uncommon lesion which has various terminologies and controversial criteria of definition. Recently, it is said that these can be divided into cystic nephroma(CN) and cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma(CPDN) based on the presence or absence of blastemal tissue and differentiation of the tissue within the septa of the cyst. We experienced a case of multilocular renal cyst(CN) which contains mature tubular and glomerular structures in the septa without evidence of blastema or embryonal elements and we are going to discuss the significance of this blastemal or embryonal tissue with regard to nature, classification, and prognosis with literatures.

ABSTRACT

Multilocular renal cyst is an uncommon entity of uncertain nature. By recent years only n few cases had reported in the literature. The difficulties encountered in distinguishing this entity from the Wilms' tumor indicate that this disease warrants great emphasis. We have experienced a case of unilateral multilocular cystic kidney treated with nephrectomy.
