ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the expression of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in various populations and the simultaneous expression of other markers using multiple tumor marker protein chip, and to discuss the possible clinical relevance. Methods A total of 25 076 profiles of multiple tumor marker protein chip were collected in our hospital for analysis. The elevation of CEA in various populations and commonly-seen tumors was analyzed, and the combined elevation of CEA and other markers was also analyzed in tumors. Results Elevation of CEA in patients with malignant tumors was significantly more than those in patients with benign lesions and normal controls (P<0. 01), with the highest positive rate of CEA seen in the colorectal cancer (41. 85%), followed by pancreatic cancer (37. 97%) and lung carcinoma (37. 16%). CEA was always accompanied by other markers in tumor patients, with the mostly seen elevated marker being CA125, followed by CA19-9 and CA242. The CEA/CA125 was often seen in pancreatic cancer (74. 26%), ovarian cancer (69. 57%), hepatocellular carcinoma (62.13%), and lung cancer (51. 68%); CEA/CA19-9 was often seen in pancreatic cancer (77.23%) and hepatocellular carcinoma (72.34%); CEA/CA242 was often seen in pancreatic cancer(77. 23%) and colorectal cancer(57. 61%); CEA + CA19-9 + CA242 was usually seen in pancreatic cancer(76. 24%), ovarian cancer(52. 17%), and colorectal cancer (51. 32%); and CEA+CA19-9 + CA242 + CA125 was mostly seen in pancreatic cancer(61. 39%). Conclusion CEA is widely expressed in malignant tumors, but it is not specific for malignant tumors. Single elevation of CEA has high value for diagnosis of colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and lung carcinoma. CEA combined with CA125, CA19-9 or CA242 can help to improve the positive rate for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the application of the multiple tumor markers' s protein chip (C12 chip) in the screen program of the elderly. Methods The C12 chip included alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) , neuron-specific enolase (NSE) , prostate special antigen (PSA) , frce-PSA(f-PSA), carcinoembryonic antigen ( CEA ), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA 125 ), carbohydrate antigen 153 (CA153) , carbohydrate antigen 199 (CA199) , carbohydrate antigen 242 (CA242) , human chorionic gonagotropin-bcta ( β-HCG), human growth hormone (HGH) and fcrritin. The sera of the 399 healthy elderly under the screening program and 1791 adults were detected by the C12 chip.Definition of positive was set as: one or more tumor markers higher than or equal to the reference value. Results The positive rates of AFP, PSA, f-PSA, CEA, CA125, CA153 and CA199 between the elderly group and the adult group were significantly different (P<0.05). The normal test value of AFP, PSA, f-PSA, CEA, CA 125, CA 199, CA242 and ferritin between the elderly group and the adult group were significantly different (P< 0.05 ). Conclusion AFP, PSA, f-PSA, CEA, CA 125, CA 153and CA199 of the C12 chip were useful in the screening program of the elderly to discover the sign of tumor at an early stage.

ABSTRACT

Two patients presenting with intraventricular meningioma and callosal astrocytoma are described. The first case is a 51 year old female presented with headache and paraparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed meningioma in the left occipital horn of lateral ventricle and astrocytoma in the corpus callosum, which were confirmed by operative removal and biopsy respectively. The second patient had been removed the meningioma in the left lateral ventricle. Seven years later poorly marginated enhancing lesion was found on the corpus callusum which was confirmed as astrocytoma by computed tomography guided biopsy.

ABSTRACT

Hepatie hilar ductal carcinoma is relatively rare, but the prognosis is known to be poor because an early diagnosis is difficult. Because the majority of patients are already infiltrated into adjacent organ by itself at the diagnosis, the rate of resectability is low. The best method of treatment is curative resection, and the range of tumor invasion is very important. The preoperative diagnosis is difficult because the cholangiography may be normal in cases of superficial invasion. Multifocal lesions within the biliary tract may be identified in as many as 10 percent of patients, Especially, the papillary type has the best prognosis and is associated with multiple tumors within the bile duct. We report a case that percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram showed normal distal common bile duct, but the hepatic hilar confluence and ampulla of Vater lesion was confirmed as adenocarcinoma.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the diagnosis value of C-12 multiple tumor marker protein chip detective system for lung cancer. Methods The serum levels of 12 tumor makers were measured in 172 lung cancer patiens,52 pulmonary benign diseases patients. All lung cancer patients were definitly diagnosised by cytology or histology, including 89 squamous cell carcinoma patients, 72 bronchogenic adenocarcinoma patients, 11 small cell lung cancer patients; 12 patients in stage I, 28 patients in stageII, 65 patients in stage III, 67 patients in stage IV. The 12 common tumor markers in serum included CA199, NSE, CEA, CA242, CA125, CA153, AFP, Ferrtin, free-PSA, PSA, HGH, ?-HCG. Results At least one kind of tumor maker was found higher in 128 of the 172 lung cancer patients, the positive rate was 74.42%, and in 5 of the 52 pulmonary benign diseases patients, the positive rate was 9.62%,it is statistical significance between two the groups (P0.05) in different pathological types lung cancer patients .The positive rate was statistical significance in different stage lung cancer patients , the highest positive rate which in stage IV patients was 79.2% (P
