ABSTRACT

Abstract This study assessed the anthelminthic feed additive albendazole effect on the main indicators of the quality of sheep meat obtained from infected and deworming animals. A total of 20 heads of Akzhaik meat and wool sheep (i.e. 2 years of age, of different sex) were used in a 20-day experiment and 2 groups of 10 heads were formed (n = 4). The sheep were fed with the basic diet (i.e. control, group CON), without adding anything, and the second group was fed the basic diet orally with the addition of a dose of 1.2 g / head (an experimental group). At the end of the experiment, a control slaughter was carried out from each group in order to study the biochemical composition of meat and its quality. The anthelmintic feed additive albendazole did not have a significant effect on the indicators (organoleptic and physicochemical) of meat quality (P> 0.04). However, the ratio of fat and ash in the meat of the control group has differences in indicators and is reduced by 24.81% and 0.03%, respectively. The drug had a significant effect on the biological value of meat in the experimental group, where there is a higher content of essential amino acids (P = 0.06), nonessential (P = 0.05) concentrations in comparison with the CON groups. The results obtained show that the meat of the experimental groups of sheep, when using the anthelminthic feed additive albendazole, did not have a significant effect on organoleptic parameters, but significantly positively influenced the metabolism, live weight gain and biological value of meat.

ABSTRACT

A 23-year-old patient presented with complaints of redness, pain, photophobia, and blurred vision in the right eye 15 days after she received the third dose of BNT162b2 vaccination. Ocular examination revealed 2+ cellular reactions in the anterior chamber and mutton fat keratic precipitate with no vitritis or retinal alterations. Active uveitis findings regressed with corticosteroid and cycloplegic eye drops. We present a case of unilateral granulomatous anterior uveitis following the BNT162b2 vaccination, with no etiologic factor in uveitis work-up and no previous history of uveitis before vaccination. This report demonstrates a potential causal association of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine with granulomatous anterior uveitis.

ABSTRACT

Diet and feeding ecology of the mutton snapper Lutjanus analis were investigated in the Abrolhos Bank, Eastern Brazil, the largest and richest coral reefs in the South Atlantic, where about 270 species of reef and shore fishes occur. To evaluate seasonal and ontogenetic shifts in the diet, specimens of L. analis were obtained through a fish monitoring program in four cities in southern Bahia State, from June 2005 to March 2007. Stomachs from 85 mutton snappers that ranged in size from 18.1 to 74.0 cm TL were examined. Prey were identified to the lowest possible taxon and assessed by the frequency of occurrence and volumetric methods. Variations in volume prey consumption were evaluated using non-metric multi-dimensional scaling ordination, analysis of similarity, and similarity percentage methods. Significant differences in diet composition among size classes were registered, whereas non significant differences between seasons were observed. Considering size-classes, food items consumption showed important variations: juveniles (<34.0 cm TL) fed mostly on crustaceans, sub-adults (34.1-50.0 cm TL) showed a diversified diet and adults (>50.1 cm TL) consumed basically fish, mostly Anguiliformes. Lutjanus analis is an important generalist reef predator, with a broad array of food resources and ontogenetic changes in the diet. This snapper species plays an important role on the trophic ecology of the Abrolhos Bank coral reefs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To develop a gas chromatography-mass spectrometric method(GC/MS) for simultaneous determination of environmental estrogens including 4-nonylphenol,bishphenol A,diethylstilbestrol and 17?-ethinylestradiol and endogenic estrogens including 17?-estradiol,17?-estradiol,estriol and estrone in mutton. Methods Mutton samples were extracted using a mixture of acetonitrile-ethyl acetate(3∶2,V/V) and cleaned up by florisil cartridge. Derived with pentafluoropropionic anhydride(PFPA) ,the derivatives were determined by GC-MS. Results The linear range of determination was 0.2-5.0 ?g/kg. The intraday relative standard deviations of the peak area were 1.25%—5.85% and the detection limits ranged from 0.024 to 1.40 ?g/kg,and the rates of recovery ranged from 71.5%—111.0% except for 17?-ethinylestradiol( 55.4%) . Conclusion This method is simple, rapid, accurate and applicable to the determination of trace environmental estrogens in mutton
