ABSTRACT

Background: Early detection and proper intervention in psychiatric diseases would be morelikely if community health workers had sufficient mental health literacy, which involvesadequate understanding and a positive attitude toward psychiatric illnesses. Our goal was toanalyses community health professionals' knowledge and attitudes toward the mentally ill andtheir socio-demographic correlates, particularly Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA).Methodology: Using a National Health Service (NHS) survey form, researchers were able todetermine the attitudes of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers towardpsychiatric disease. We looked at a total of 50 completed responses. Chi square test andStudent's t test were employed as statistical analysis approaches. Results: We discovered a lack of mental health understanding and a negative attitude amongASHA employees. Conclusions: The causes of attitude deficits in ASHA workers should be targeted foradditional educational interventions and training, so that positive attitudes can be instilled inthem and other health workers, benefiting our society in the long run.

ABSTRACT

Due to the complexity of bioactive ingredients in biological samples, the screening of target proteins is a complex process.Herein,a feasible strategy for directing protein immobilization on silica magnetic beads for ligand fishing based on SpyTag/SpyCatcher(ST/SC)-mediated anchoring is presented.Carboxyl functional groups on the surface of silica-coated magnetic beads(SMBs)were coupled with SC using the 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride/N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide method, named SC-SMBs.The green fluorescent protein(GFP),as the capturing protein model, was ST-labeled and anchored at a specific orientation onto the surface of SC-SMBs directly from relevant cell lysates via ST/SC self-ligation.The characteristics of the SC-SMBs were studied via electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The spontaneity and site-specificity of this unique reaction were confirmed via electrophoresis and fluorescence analyses.Although the alkaline stability of ST-GFP-ligated SC-SMBs was not ideal, the formed isopeptide bond was unbreakable under acidic conditions(0.05 M glycine-HCl buffer,pH 1-6)for 2 h,under 20%ethanol solution within 7 days, and at most temperatures. We,therefore, present a simple and universal strategy for the preparation of diverse protein-functionalized SMBs for ligand fishing, prompting its usage on drug screening and target finding.

ABSTRACT

In 2018, the SUS Sistema Unificado de Saúde (Unified Health System) celebrated the 30th anniversary of its setting up in Brazil. Despite its many achievements in these three decades, nowadays SUS faces new challenges which were imposed by a liberal and conservative agenda ongoing in the country. In this context, the documentary The Spirit of '45 (2013), directed by Ken Loach, which highlights the creation of the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom, is a very important film. Addressing citizenship and the common good as major themes, the movie shows how it is possible by revisiting the past to awaken the combative spirit in favour of a fairer and more solidary society, in order to prioritize the population's wellbeing instead of the profit and to point out ways to defend SUS as an achievement of the Brazilian people.

ABSTRACT

@#In order to provide enlightening experience for the establishment of reasonable and diversified orphan drugs into the reimbursement system in China, the official websites of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE)and the National Health Service(NHS)in the UK were inspected, collecting and summarizing the relevant documents, on the inclusion of orphan drugs into the reimbursement system. Relevant literatures were analyzed with theoretical studies on the accessibility of medicines for patients with rare diseases. In the NHS system, the inclusion of orphan drugs into the reimbursement system in the UK can be achieved mainly through seven routes, with three routes that are evaluated by NICE(MTA, STA and HST)and four are directly managed by the NHS(specialized commissioning, CDF, IFRs, CtE). Through the analysis of the inclusion of orphan drugs into the reimbursement system and the various problems in the UK, we have found some enlightening experience for the establishment of the reimbursement system for orphan drugs in China.

ABSTRACT

Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) polymers do not support endothelialization because of nonconductive characteristics towards cellular attachment. Inner surface modification of the grafts can improve endothelialization and increase the long-term patency rate of the ePTFE vascular grafts. Here we reported a method of inner-surface modification of ePTFE vascular graft with extracellular matrix (ECM) and CD34 monoclonal antibodies (CD34 mAb) to stimulate the adhesion and proliferation of circulating endothelial progenitor cells on ePTFE graft to enhance graft endothelialization. The inner surface of ECM-coated ePTFE grafts were linked with CD34 mAb in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC/NHS) solution and the physicochemical properties, surface morphology, biocompatibility, and hemocompatibility of the grafts were studied. The hydrophilicity of CD34 mAb-coated graft inner surface was significantly improved. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis confirmed ECM and CD34 mAb cross-linking in the ePTFE vascular grafts with our method. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed protein layer covering uniformly on the inner surface of the modified grafts. The cell-counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay confirmed that the modified graft has no obvious cytotoxicity. The modified graft showed a low hemolytic rate (0.9%) in the direct contact hemolysis test, suggesting the modification improved hemocompatibility of biopolymers. The modification also decreased adhesion of platelets, while significantly increased the adhesion of endothelial cells on the grafts. We conclude that our method enables ePTFE polymers modification with ECM and CD34 mAb, facilitates endothelialization, and inhibits platelet adhesion on the grafts, thus may increase the long-term patency rate of the prosthetic bypass grafts.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the research was to explore post-registration training opportunities for NHS hospital pharmacists which contributes to promote structural reform of the professional development and lifelong learning for Korean hospital pharmacists. In UK, all pharmacists are required to complete at least 9 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) entries per each year to maintain their professional registration. Types of accredited postgraduate qualification (part-time) in Pharmacy Practice available for hospital pharmacists are Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert, year 1), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip, year 2), Master of Science (MSc year 3), and Professional Doctorate in Pharmacy programme (DPharm, 4-5 years or more). Clinical pharmacy diploma is more likely to become a minimum qualification in order to progress whilst working for the NHS. Pharmacy independent prescribers are allowed to prescribe all medications except cocaine, dipipanone, and diamorphine for the purpose of treating addiction within their competencies. NHS pharmacists are also classified by band point system depending on their practical/clinical knowledge and skills which starting from band 5 (Pre-registration pharmacist) up to band 9. Various learning and development options are also offered including teaching sessions, conferences and local forums.

ABSTRACT

Health is determined by social, economic, educational, political and environmental conditions and, as such, it ranges well beyond a solely biological dimension. This article attempts to establish an interpretative reflection on the principles of the NHS and to show the interface of such principles with the hospital class proposal, a type of special education that encourages the construction of knowledge, training and the teaching of a set of skills to contribute to development in childhood. This is an exercise of reasoning conceived to understand the role played by the hospital class in the achievement of comprehensive health care in Brazil. Providing educational activities in hospitals allows hospitalized children and adolescents to carry on with their learning processes.

ABSTRACT

Given the dimensions of humanization in both the care and in the training of health professionals, the curriculum reforms implemented nationally and the educational project restructuring experience at the school under review, this article sought to analyze the medical students' views regarding the experiences that enabled them to develop content, skills and behaviors aimed at humanization. The authors conducted a qualitative study among 63 sophomore and senior students based on their accounts of significant experiences involving care and receptivity. The analysis was based on the symbolic content of the essays and focused on educational, psychological and ethical aspects involved. An attempt was made to broaden the diversity of viewpoints and add value to messages that showed perceptions, impressions and intuitions. It was shown that most striking ones were practical activities that took place in different scenarios, when students were required to monitor, assigned responsibilities related to, and came into contact with suffering caused by disease and death. By employing academic and professional models, or in the direct relationship with patients and families, such situations create movements of disturbance and unrest and direct possible senses towards humanization.
