ABSTRACT

Objective::To investigate the distribution status of medicinal plants in the wild areas of Russian Caucasus and Altai, and clarify the types and efficacy information of medicinal plants in the area, so as to dig deep into new resources and new functions of medicinal plants in the countries along the Belt and Road. Method::Medicinal plants in the wild were searched and collected to make waxy specimens, and sent back to the country to extract the total DNA of the leaves of the leaves. Internal Transcribed Spacer(ITS)sequence universal primers were used for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)amplification. The PCR products were sent for the two-way sequencing, and the sequencing results are spliced by software according to National Center for Biotechnology Information(NCBI). The same ITS sequence of the highest similarity species obtained by database BLAST was analyzed by DNAman software to identify the ITS sequence of the species and the ITS sequence of the same species. The MEGA 7 software was used as the phylogenetic tree, and the Kimura-2 parameter genetic distance was used to construct the neighbor joining(NJ) phylogenetic tree by the neighbor-joining method. The confidence of each branch of the development tree was tested by the bootstrap test method. A total of 2 000 cycles were performed, and the results were identified based on the clustering results. On this basis, the key medicinal plants in the Russian Caucasus and Altay wild areas were summarized and analyzed. Result::After BLAST alignment in NCBI database, the ITS sequences of each specimen were clustered with the login sequences on the NCBI database, which were separated from the outer group. The species classification of the specimens to be identified was determined by combining the characteristics of the specimens. A total of 51 plants were identified from the specimens collected in the field, covering 44 genera of 17 families, and 29 plants had clear efficacy records. The National Drug List of the Russian Federation and the Chinese Pharmacopoeia were retrieved to summarize commonly used medicinal plants in China and conclude that 20 kinds of Chinese and Russian common medicinal materials have different medicinal effects in local areas. This study has a reference significance for expanding the scope and clinical experience of traditional Chinese medicines, and provides a basis for strengthened local species conservation, development and utilization of wild medicinal plant resources.

ABSTRACT

Background@#A blood product is any therapeutic substance derived from human blood, including whole blood and other blood components for transfusion, and plasma-derived medicinal products. Medicinal (medical therapeutic) products derived from human donations of blood and plasma play a critical role in health care. Safe, effective and quality-assured blood products contribute to improving and saving millions of lives every year, as they: address child mortality and maternal health, dramatically improve the life expectancy and quality of life of patients suffering from life-threatening inherited disorders, such as haemophilia, thalassaemia and immune deficiency, and acquired conditions such as cancer and traumatic haemorrhage and support complex medical and surgical procedures, including transplantation. An insufficient or unsafe blood supply for transfusion has a negative impact on the effectiveness of key health services and programmes to provide appropriate patient care in numerous acute and chronic conditions. Ensuring access of all patients who require transfusion to safe, effective and quality-assured blood products is a key component of an effective health system and vital for patient safety.
Although the number of blood donors is increasing, there are still insufficient human and financial resources for encouraging the growing demand of blood and blood products and new blood donors. @*Material and Methods@#We collected secondary data by using using the order forms of hospitals that used blood and blood products registered in the National Center for Blood Transfusion Research in 2017-2019 in accordance with the retrospective survey method.
In total 34,119 hospital order information sheet was entered into computer in excel program, and converted into SPSS 23 software, descriptive parameters were calculated and analyzed. @*Results@#Compare to the 2017 (n=9076), the demand of blood product was increased by 21.8%, and 54.8% in 2019. There are 51.9% (95%CI: 51.2-52.5) of total users are male, which is statistically significant. The mean age of blood product users were aged 48.58±21.32, the youngest user was aged 1 and the oldest age was 99. The demand of blood products were increased by growing of the age of users. The product usage of age group of 46-55 was 17.8% and has trend to increase year by year. In total, 11.3% of total blood product was utilized for children and 72.3% of them were aged less than 5 years old. 73.0% of total blood products were utilized in specialized hospitals, 14.6 % of them were used in aimag and district level hospitals and 11.3% of them were used in private clinics. 24.4% of blood products utilization was used for diseases of digestive system (К00-К93), 22.1% of them were used for diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs and certain disorders involving the immune mechanism, and 19.5% of them were used for the cancer (C00-C97) disease patient’s treatment. @*Conclusion@#Since after new treatment guidance was introduced the blood and blood products usage had been increased.

ABSTRACT

Background: Accurate preparation of recipient area is a critical step in melanocyte-keratinocyte transplantation procedure for vitiligo. It is an important potential step for adaptation in the quest to achieve better results and ablative lasers potentially offer excellent precision over margin and depth control in achieving that. Objective: To compare between the two techniques used for recipient site preparation: Er:YAG laser ablation and mechanical dermabrasion for melanocyte-keratinocyte transplantation procedure in terms of re-pigmentation achieved and adverse effects seen. Methods: A randomized comparative trial was performed among 32 patients of stable vitiligo undergoing melanocyte-keratinocyte transplantation procedure. In Group A (n = 15), recipient site preparation was done with Er:YAG laser, and in Group B (n = 17), it was done with a motorized dermabrader. Patients of both groups were objectively assessed for re-pigmentation at 1, 3 and 6 months. Results: A total of 253.696 cm2 of depigmented surface was operated upon and re-pigmentation of 125.359 cm2 (49.4%) was achieved. On comparison between two groups, no statistical difference was found with respect to total re-pigmentation achieved (Group A: 54.67% vs Group B: 48.841%, P = 0.663) and grades of re-pigmentation achieved (P = 0.796). Occurrence of adverse events was also statistically similar in both the groups. Conclusion: This study did not reveal any statistically different outcome (in terms of re-pigmentation and adverse effects) between the two methods of recipient site preparation – motorized dermabrasion and Er:YAG ablation. Limitations: This study is small and larger studies are needed to ascertain the benefit of Er:YAG for recipient site preparation. Future studies may also ascertain variables such as time taken to prepare the recipient area, nature of bleeding, postoperative healing, difficulties in specific area, cost of the procedure, patient comfort and ease of the surgeon, rather than comparing the re-pigmentation alone.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study is to identify the leadership practices of Psychiatrists in the National Center for Mental Health, which would help in developing a subspecialty training of Administrative Psychiatry in the Philippines. Specifically we will describe the demographic profile of the psychiatrists at the National Center for Mental Health and how they view themselves as a leader as well as compare the leadership practices between Consultant and Residents in training.METHODOLOGY: This is a descriptive study that included all the residents in training and consultants of NCMH employed from July to December 2013, using the Leadership Practices Index (LPI), a 30-item questionnaire that enables individuals and organizations to measure their leadership competencies and act on their discoveries, Measures of central tendency, means and medians were computed using the Epi Info 7 software. Means of each LPI statement with its corresponding LPI practice were calculated and ranked. The responses of residents in training were compared to those of the consultants for each LPI statement.RESULTS: Forty-five of the 53 psychiatrists-19 of whom were consultants and 26 were residents in training-responded to the questionnaires and were included in the statistical analysis. Thirty-eight percent were males & 62% were females. Twenty two (48.9%) were in the age range of 31-40 years old. Twenty six (57.8%) have been employed 4 years or less at NCMH. Fifty-three percent never had any leadership training. Psychiatric consultants and residents in training ranked the same 3 Items as their top choices: Item 14 i.e. "I treat others with dignity and respect", the highest (mean score of 8.74 for consultants 8.69 for residents), Item 5 i.e. "I praise people with job well done" (8.13 for consultants, 8.31 for residents), and Item 4 i.e. "I develop cooperative relationship among people I work with" (8.37 for consultants, 8.23 for residents). The 2 groups differed in what they least practiced: Item 12 i.e. "I appeal to others to share an exciting dream of the future" with lowest score of 6.42 among consultants while, psychiatric residents i training ranked Item 13 i.e. "I search outside the formal boundaries of my organization for innovative ways to improve what we do" with a low score of 5.85. Of all the leadership practices Enable others to act, which is strengthening others and fostering collaboration in the workplace (47.84) as well as Encourage the heart i.e. giving encouragement and recognition to others (46.13) were the top 2 practices frequently seen among all psychiatrists of NCMH. The least practiced were Challenge the process- seizing initiative and exercising outsight to make things better (40.84)- and Inspire a vision- envision the future and show how common interests can be fulfilled (39.8). When compared to worldwide scores those of the psychiatrists in NCMH were only in the 20th-40th percentile.CONCLUSION: The low scores of both the residents in training and consultants when compared to worldwide percentiles indicate the need for further leadership training for both groups. But as expected when comparing the scores of residents in training and consultants of NCMH, the latter had higher scores for all 5 areas of leadership as expected.

ABSTRACT

A large portion of the Korean population has been exposed to toxic humidifier disinfectants (HDs), and considering that the majority of the victims are infants, the magnitude of the damage is expected to be considerably larger than what has currently been revealed. The current victims are voicing problems caused by various diseases, including but not limited to lung, upper respiratory tract, cardiovascular, kidney, musculoskeletal, eye, and skin diseases, etc. However, there has been difficulty in gaining validation for these health problems and identifying causal relationships due to lack of evidence proving that toxic HD is the specific causes of extrapulmonary diseases such as allergic rhinitis. Furthermore, the victims and bereaved families of the HD case have not received any support for psychological distress such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, feelings of injustice, and anger caused by the trauma. In addition, because the underlying mechanisms of the toxic materials within the HDs such as polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate, poly(oxyalkylene guanidine) hydrochloride, chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone have yet to be determined, the demand for information regarding the HD issue is growing. The victims of the HD cases require support that goes beyond financial aid for medical costs and living expenses. There is a desperate need for government-led integrated support centers that provide individualized support through health screenings; in other words, we need an integrated facility that provides the appropriate social support to allow the victims to recover their physical and mental health, so as to well prepare them to return to a normal life. The implementation of such a plan requires not only the close cooperation between those departments already directly involved such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, but also active support on a national scale from pan-governmental consultative bodies.

ABSTRACT

The Institute of Preclinical and Basic Sciences "Victoria de Girón" was founded in Havana in October 1962. There began the development of basic Biomedical Sciences in Cuba until it became the head center for their teaching. During the last 50 years up to 2012, the Institute of Preclinical and Basic Sciences "Victoria de Girón" has surpassed its walls to support the foundation of other medical science universities in Cuba and other countries as well to support the creation of Biomedical research centers. Sincethe beginning of 70´s decade, "Victoria de Girón" has promoted the foundation of scientific societies related to Biomedical Sciences. In 1973 the professionals who worked at thedepartments of Morphological Sciences asked the Council of Health Societies the permission to create the Cuban Society of Morphological Sciences (SCCM, for its initials in Spanish). The purpose of this paper is describe the foundation of the SCCM and whowere its promoters. Throughdocuments and testimonies it was shown that there were 40 professionals(Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacy doctors), who dedicated their life to teach Anatomy (15), Histology (16) and Embryology (9). All of them belonged either to Victoria de Girón or to the National Center of Scientific Research. At present there are 16 foundation members that are still active in the society and giving their experience.
