ABSTRACT

Objective: to analyze the prevalence of ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) in the Brazilian adult population based on the 2019 National Health Survey. Methods: this was a population-based cross-sectional study (n = 77,494); prevalence and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) of ideal CVH (seven metrics achieved simultaneously) and by individual metrics (four behavioral and three biological metrics), as defined by the American Heart Association, were estimated. Results: only 0.5% (95%CI 0.4;0.6) of the study population presented ideal CVH, with higher prevalence among those with higher level of education (1.3%; 95%CI 0.9;1.6) and residents in urban areas (0.6%; 95%CI 0.5;0.7); the prevalence of behavioral and biological metrics was 0.7% (95%CI 0.6;0.8) and 63.3% (95%CI 62.7;63.9) respectively. Conclusion: the prevalence of ideal CVH was very low, highlighting the need for public policies aimed at promotion, surveillance and CVH care in the Brazilian adult population.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have a multifactorial origin and lifestyle-related behaviors are among the predisposing risk factors. These behaviors seldom occur in isolation, and the simultaneity is an aggravating factor for the development of NCDs. Objective To estimate the simultaneous occurrence of health risk behaviors and associated factors in the Brazilian population. Method Data from the National Health Survey conducted in 2013 were used. The risk behaviors evaluated were smoking, abusive alcoholic beverage consumption, irregular consumption of fruits and vegetables, excessive screen time, and physical inactivity. The presence of each behavior was added to obtain simultaneity. The independent variables analyzed were gender, age group, and education level. The chi-square test was used to assess factors associated with simultaneous occurrence and logistic regression for the association between the health risk behaviors assessed. Results The most frequent risk behaviors were physical inactivity (68.5%), irregular consumption of fruits and vegetables (32.9%), and excessive screen time (28.9%). Four out of ten individuals were exposed to two risk behaviors simultaneously. The occurrence of three or more risk behaviors was more frequent among males, adolescents, and adults, compared to the elderly, and there was a gradual reduction with the increase in the education level. Conclusion The frequency of simultaneous occurrence of health risk behaviors was elevated, which may compromise the health conditions of the Brazilian population.

ABSTRACT

@# Diabetes mellitus which is estimated to continue to increase over time becomes a problem that needs to be immediately addressed by various related stakeholders. Knowing the risk factors associated with diabetes mellitus is considered the right way to minimize the number of diabetes in the world, especially Indonesia. Analysis of secondary data on the Indonesian Family Life Survey is expected to be the basis for taking appropriate policies in Diabetes Mellitus intervention in Indonesia. Methods: Cross sectional design based on secondary data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey V was conducted in this study to find the most influential risk for diabetic mellitus in Indonesia. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to simplify analyzing information from 30133 respondents aged > 18 years spread across 13 Provinces in Indonesia. The selection of respondents was based on the completeness of the information in the dataset provided by RAND as the dataset provider. The variables were analyzed in this study, included diabetes mellitus, cholesterol levels, gender, hypertension, overweight and age. Results: High cholesterol, hypertension and overweight were risks associated with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. Of the three risks, overweight was the most significant risk (p = 0,000; OR 2,200; 95% CI 1,655 – 2,295). Conclusion: Striving for healthy living behaviours and periodic screening programs can reduce overweight rates because they can be detected quickly.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify whether the link to these plans can be considered as a cause or an incremental factor of the use of SUS by these clients. Methods: Data from the National Health Survey conducted in 2013 were used. The technique used was the propensity score. Results: Statistical significance was found when the use of the Unified Health System (SUS) was evaluated by the clients of the plans of lesser extent in consultations and other procedures, as well as hospitalizations, 37.9% and 46.4%, respectively. Conclusion: It can be observed that the linkage to the less comprehensive plans is an incremental factor for the use of the SUS service network, reinforcing the argument that the supply of these protective systems in the market does not contribute to the public health network.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the frequency and distribution of protective antibodies against measles in a sample of children from 1-9 years old representative of each of the 32 states in Mexico; to contribute to the evaluation of the measles vaccination programs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Measles antibodies (plaque reduction neutralization (PRN) assay) were studied in 6 270 sera selected from the 24 232 sera from children 1-9 years of age, collected by the 2000 National Health Survey (ENSA 2000) that was conducted from November 1999 to June 2000. RESULTS: Proportion of seropositive samples (>120 IU/L) among 1-4 year-old children (98.3 percent [95 percentCI: 97.7-98.8]) was less than that of 5-9 year-old children (99.4 percent [95 percentCI: 99.2-99.6]; p<0.001). Seropositivity was associated with the number of measles and/or measles-rubella-mumps vaccine doses and was not associated with gender, place of residence or socio-economic status. CONCLUSIONS: The results show that there is adequate vaccination coverage. However, the expansion of data revealed that there are 417 000 children with negative antibody titers who are susceptible to acquiring the disease, transmitting the virus and causing outbreaks.
