ABSTRACT

Epidermal nevi (EN) are hamartomatous lesions derived from epidermal components originating from pluripotent cell mutations. They have been categorized according to their predominant component. The existence of >2 types of EN concurrently within a single area or within contiguous areas has been rarely reported. This report describes the case of simultaneous presence of a yellowish plaque on the left medial canthus and an aggregation of closed comedo-like papules on the right side of the cheek of a 15-year-old girl.

ABSTRACT

Nevus comedonicus is a relatively rare hamartoma, which originates from pilosebaceous unit. The disease usually occurs at birth or during childhood and most commonly unilateral or along with Blascko line. A 59-year-old man presented with black grouped dilated pores, with keratin plug on both eyelids. A histopathologic finding showed multiple keratin filled epidermal invaginations. We herein report an unusual case of bilateral nevus comedonicus developed in middle aged persons.

ABSTRACT

Nevus comedonicus is an uncommon skin disorder that clinically appears as linear groups of open comedones. A 6-year-old female patient presented with a nevus comedonicus accompanied by an epidermal nevus in her genital area. The histopathologic finding showed an atrophic, cystically dilated hair follicle containing abundant keratinous debris. She was treated with oral antibiotics. We report here on an unusual case of nevus comedonicus that occurred in the genital area.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Nevus comedonicus is a rare disease involving abnormal development of the pilosebaceous unit, clinically appearing confluent clusters of open comedones. It is characterized by follicular epidermic invaginations filled with keratin, with atrophic pilose or sebaceous structures which are open to the lower pole of the invagination. We report a child with inflammatory pustules and cysts correlated to the nevus comedonicus. METHODS: A 15-month-old girl was referred for treatment of a nevus comedonicus that has been developed since birth. There were periodic episodes of erythema and swelling of the plaque. The patient had treated previously with retinoid cream for 2 weeks without obvious benefit at dermatology clinic. We excised the nevus comedonicus with Y-shape leaving some lesions. RESULTS: When we incised skin, we could see multiple large whitish cysts beneath the nevus comedonicus. Histopathologic findings showed deep invagination of epidermis filled with keratin plugs, keratinous cyst in the dermis, rudimentary hair follicle. CONCLUSION: We treated rare nevus comedonicus with multiple large cysts as surgical excision.

ABSTRACT

A 34-year-old female patient presented multiple 1-2mm sized dark brown coloured keratin plugs, within dilated follicles on the lower extremities from the birth. Histopathological findings showed a wide and deep invagination of the epidermis filled with keratin plugs which is a typical feature of nevus comedonicus, and the presence of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis on the epidermis and follicular wall. On another area, histopathological findings showed the presence of hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and epidermolytic hyperkeratosis of the epidermis; there are common changes of systematized epidermal nevus. We herein report a case of nevus comedonicus with epidermolytic hyperkeratosis.

ABSTRACT

We describe a 16-year-old female with Nevus comedonicus(NC) that has been developed since birth. The lesions had a unilateral, linear or zosteriform distribution on the left lower leg and posterior thigh, and were well closely arranged, slightly depressed papules that had dark firm plugs resembling comedones in their centers. In the meantime, recurrent infections with fistula, abscess and residual scars had been complicated. Histopathologic features showed deep invagination of epidermis and dilated follicular orifices filled with keratin plugs in the centers of papules.

ABSTRACT

Nevus comedonicus(NC) is an uncommon skin disorder, which appears as linear groups of open comedones clinically. A 56-year-old male patient presented a painful walnut-sized erythematous nodule with pus-like discharge on the right posterior aspect of the neck. He has extensive comedone like lesions on the right side of the body after his birth and has suffered from recurrent infections. Histopathologic finding showed the typical features of nevus comedonicus, wide and deep invagination of the epidermis filled with keratin plugs. He was treated with incision, pus drainage and systemic antibiotics. We report a case of extensive nevus comedonicus.

ABSTRACT

A 17-year-old woman had an extensive nevus comedonicus affecting the left sides of the breast, trunk, axilla, and upper extremity. Her condition was complicated by episodes of re-current cyst formation, secondary infection, and atrophic scars. We performed various therapeutic approaches include topical keratolytic agents, manual extraction of comedones, excision of smaller lesions, and systemic antibiotics but the response was unsatisfactory. We tried systemic isotretinoin and minocycline and the pustulation of the lesions was reduced. Herein we report a rare case of linearly arranged extensive nevus comedonicus.

ABSTRACT

At twenty two year old female with nevus comedonicus and an increased tendency to form keloids is described. Although example of successful treatment of nevus comedonicus are readily found in the literature none propose reasonable therapeutic models for keloid formers. As our patient clearly demonstrated this tendency. We initated a t,rial with the carbon dioxide laser due to it's ability to cause less thermal damage. Subsequent to completion of this t,rial, the lesion has imprcived with the acceptable cosmetic results and less comedogenic activity.
