ABSTRACT

Cultivating new era medical ethics and style with the fine traditional Chinese culture (TCC) is foundation of the construction of medical ethics and style in the new era, which can fundamentally rectify the alienation of medical ethics and style in modern medicine. It can cultivate the new era medical staff’s benevolence of "putting the people and the people’s lives as the first place", the dedication spirit of "value justice over profit", the humanistic feelings of "putting oneself in other’s shoes", the medical innovation of "facing people’s health", the world responsibility of building a community of human health. Cultivating medical ethics and style in the new era with fine TCC means achieving creative transformation and innovative development of fine TCC, fundamentally nourishing and nurturing medical ethics and style in the whole process. It is important to firm cultural confidence, continue to make great efforts to inherit and promote the fine TCC, especially the traditional Chinese medicine culture; strengthen cultural education, build an "antique" education system of medical ethics and style, and focus on integration and innovation to improve the effectiveness of medical ethics and medical style cultivation in the new era.

ABSTRACT

Building a strong public health system has become an urgent task in the new era. Based on more than eight years of systematic research, we believe that five aspects need to be prioritized for a strong system. First, we should change the perspective on public health, using the word “gonggong jiankang” to replace “gonggong weisheng” and the word “gonggong jiankang tixi” to replace “gonggong weisheng tixi”, to lead the public health system development. Second, we should develop a suitable public health system and continuously improve the health capacity for governance. Third, we should make it clear that the goal of building a strong system is not far-fetched, and we need to consolidate the existing institutional advantages of China’s public health system: when encountering major problems, we can maintain a unified goal and mobilize the whole society to cooperate effectively to accomplish the goal. However, we need to make up for shortcomings one by one, especially to solve the key problem of lacking a strong coordination mechanism in daily work. Fourth, we should pursue excellence and consolidate the“suitable” mechanism proven in the process of coping with the COVID-19, so that efficient mechanisms to deal with major issues can be used in routine work, and efforts should be made to consolidate the advantages of prevention and control of infectious diseases and emergency response,so as to achieve the balanced development of regions categories and units. Finally, it is necessary to strengthen the coordination of government and research institutions, in the aspects of technological innovation, talent team building and accurate consulting services, and work together to pursue a suitable and strong system to realize the modernization of the health system and capacity for governance.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo determine the epidemiological characteristics of infectious disease related public health bud-events in Shanghai and assess the effects of bud-event surveillance, so as to provide scientific evidence for improving the surveillance system. MethodsSurveillance data of infectious disease related public health bud-events were collected from 16 districts of Shanghai from 2017 through 2020. Then the data were analyzed and compared with infectious disease related public health emergencies during the same period. ResultsA total of 6 376 infectious disease related public health bud-events were documented in Shanghai in 2017‒2020, which involved 29 792 cases. There were two seasonal peaks, April through June and November through December. Clustered events accounted for 38.85%, mainly caused by chickenpox (14.10%), hand, foot and mouth disease (11.17%) and norovirus-associated infectious diarrhea (6.54%). The 36.73% of the bud-events occurred in school settings, which involved 24 718 cases (accounting for 83.00% of all cases). Median time duration between onset date of the first cases and report date of the events was 4 days, and median duration of the events was 14 days, demonstrating positive correlation. In addition, all the infectious disease related public health emergencies(n=77) from 2017 through 2020 were classified as common events or unclassified. The proportion of infectious disease related public health emergencies in the bud-events during the same period was 1.21%, and that of infectious disease related public health emergencies in the bud-events in school settings was 2.48%. ConclusionTwo peaks of infectious disease related public health bud-events are observed in spring as well as autumn and winter in Shanghai from 2017 through 2020. Schools should be prioritized for control and prevention of infectious diseases. Bud-event surveillance system has been contributable to the prevention and control of public health emergencies, especially in the early detection, reporting and control of clustered events in schools. Bud-event surveillance system should be further improved and assessed comprehensively.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the attitudes and demands of medical students on medical education rituals in the context of the new era, to find out the existing problems, and to provide reference to the innovation and improvement of the rituals. Methods:An online questionnaire was conducted among medical students. SPSS 25.0 was used for descriptive statistical analysis and rank sum test of the data. Qualitative research methods such as in-depth interviews and panel discussions were used to comprehensively analyze the qualitative data.Results:"Post-00s" medical students, who are known as the aborigines of the Internet, are also looking forward to the return of traditional medical education rituals. Compared with junior students, senior students had lower awareness of the importance of rituals and lower willingness to participate in rituals, and the degree of professional identity arousal by the rituals was also lower ( P<0.05). Certain medical students indicated that they had never participated in medical education rituals, and some indicated that their specialties were not valued in the rituals. Conclusion:Medical education in the new era should revive traditional rituals and be adjusted to the changes in the background of the times and the characteristics of the student groups. The current ritual education fails to meet the needs of medical students at different stages, and its systematicness and continuity should be strengthened. The coverage of medical education rituals for medical students is incomprehensive and uneven, and it is necessary to further expand the coverage and appropriateness of rituals in medical-related specialties and fully consider the characteristics of each specialty in medical students.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The objective of this text is to analyze how homeopathy was conveyed to the lay public in Brazil during the 1970s, an important period in the process of legitimizing this practice as a medical specialty, which occurred in 1980. The sources analyzed (composed of articles that circulated in the Jornal do Brasil and books intended for the lay public) allow the reader to distinguish different interlocutors with various expectations of homeopathy, revealing a heterogeneous universe of understandings and uses for this medical system. At the same time, the sources establish a universe of representations present in the construction of homeopathy as alternative medicine, which is noticeable in its relationship with the counterculture movements and New Era in forming a "consuming public" for homeopathy.

ABSTRACT

China is one of the schistosomiasis-endemic countries with the highest burden of disease across the world. Following the control efforts for over 60 years, great successes have been achieved in schistosomiasis control in the country, and the control program is moving towards transmission interruption and elimination. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of publishing Chairman Mao Zedong’s two poems entitled “Farewell to the God of Plague”, a series of activities that disseminate schistosomiasis control achievements have been conducted in China throughout 2018, including the development of Chinese spirit on schistosomiasis control in the new era. After extensive discussion, collection and screening, and “Integration of all efforts, scientific control, willingness to dedication and swearing to wipe out the 'God of Plague' “ was proposed as Chinese spirit on schistosomiasis control in the new era. Integration of all efforts is a summary of administrative policy-making and population participation in Chinese schistosomiasis control programs; scientific control is the refinement of the Chinese national schistosmiasis control strategy that is developed and implemented tailoring to time and circumstances; willingness to dedication is a valuable spiritual wealth and inexhaustible source of power for Chinese schistosomiasis control professionals in the new era; and swearing to wipe out the “God of Plague” is a sacred mission assigned to Chinese professionals participating in the national schistosomiasis control program in the new era. Chinese spirit on schistosomiasis control in the new era will further strengthen our belief in achieving the goal of schistosomiasis elimination in China eventually.

ABSTRACT

As China's social development enters the New Era and the pursuit of healthcare is on the rise, people put forward the new requirements to traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) service capability. It is a great mission entrusted to practitioners to give full play to the unique characteristics and strengths of TCM. The development of TCM is currently confronted with important chances and challenges, and has entered a period of adjustment. In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of TCM and enlarge people's sense of gaining in particular,it is vital to improve the contribution of TCM in China's medical and health services. My suggestions are as follows: ①The development of TCM should stay true to the vision of people's health-oriented development, accelerate shift of " three work emphasis",and scientifically construct five " should do" and five " should do even more" development path suited to features of TCM. ②The development of TCM should focus on the study of its " new four natures"( safety, effectiveness, controllability, accessibility) further, and pursue innovation-driven high quality development of TCM.
