ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the application status of Nvivo software in qualitative nursing research and compare the difference between overseas and domestic publications. Methods Six databases were searched and finally 159 qualitative nursing articles were analyzed, the information such as year, region, institution, literature source, impact factor, fund support, theme, theory attachment, analytical approach, data collection approach, function utility were used to included. From inception to January 31, 2016. Results It was found that up to 21%(21/100)publications were from Australia, and up to 18.64%(11/59)publications were from Shanghai in the past 15 years. Responsible institutions were mainly college and hospital. 54.24% of these domestic papers had no fund support, and 78 % of these overseas papers had no fund support. Themes of overseas papers were more various than those of domestic. The utility of Nvivo software overseas proved to be more systematic and deeper. Conclusions The quantity and quality of relevant publications increase dramatically in China in recent years, nevertheless, wider and deeper usage of Nvivo function should be explored deeply. Qualitative nursing researchers should take advantage of benefits of Nvivo, build a holistic view and generalize its comprehensive application.

ABSTRACT

A competency dictionary of advanced health informatization application persons was compiled by inter-viewing 20 health information persons with behavior events interview , their competency characteristics were coded By Nvivo, the coding frequency and characteristics score in good performance group and ordinary group were ana-lyzed by variance analysis, which showed 8 characteristics of key competency and 12 characteristics of basic compe-tency in advanced health information application persons.

ABSTRACT

Qualitative data is often subjective, rich, and consists of in-depth information normally presented in the form of words. Analysing qualitative data entails reading a large amount of transcripts looking for similarities or differences, and subsequently finding themes and developing categories. Traditionally, researchers ‘cut and paste’ and use coloured pens to categorise data. Recently, the use of software specifically designed for qualitative data management greatly reduces technical sophistication and eases the laborious task, thus making the process relatively easier. A number of computer software packages has been developed to mechanise this ‘coding’ process as well as to search and retrieve data. This paper illustrates the ways in which NVivo can be used in the qualitative data analysis process. The basic features and primary tools of NVivo which assist qualitative researchers in managing and analysing their data are described
