A total of 345 968 students were enrolled, and their nutritional status was analyzed.@*Results@#The overall malnutrition rate of students showed a downward trend, and the differences were statistically significant( χ 2=2 177.92, P <0.01); the overall overweight detection rate of students increased from 5.22% to 13.75% in 2021, showing an upward trend year by year, the differences were statistically significant( χ 2=6 476.36, P < 0.01 ); the overall obesity detection rate of students in 2021 had increased compared with that in 2015, increasing from 11.43% to 11.73%,showing an upward trend year by year( χ 2=20.03, P <0.01). The annual rates of malnutrition, overweight, and obesity in boys were higher than those in girls( P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#The malnutrition status of primary and middle school students in Furong District of Changsha has been improving year by year, but students overweight and obesity rates have been increasing, and the nutritional status of boys is more prominent than girls. Therefore, targeted coping strategies should be adopted in health care.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To review the prevalence of double burden of malnutrition among primary and middle school students in Guangzhou during the school year 2004-2013,and to provide reference for nutrition intervention measures.@*Methods@#A total of 48 primary and secondary schools were selected by purposeful sampling in eight urban areas of Guangzhou. Data on height and weight of students were collected and BMI were calculated in accordance with the National Manual for Physical Fitness and Health Research and Testing. Screening Standard for Malnutrition of Chinese School-age Children Adolescents to assess growth retardation and wasting. Using Screening for Overweight and Obesity among Chinese School-age Children Adolescents to assess overweight and obesity. The rates of growth retardation, wasting, overweight, obesity were calculated by sex and age groups; Differences among groups were analyzed by using χ2 tests; The annual growth rate is calculated by using the simple sequence time average method.@*Results@#The prevalence of undernutrition among young students aged 6-18 in Guangzhou decreased from 16.74% (12 985/77 491) in 2004 to 10.69% (8 431/78 901) in 2013, with an average annual growth rate of -4.76%; The prevalence of male malnutrition decreased from 17.98% (7 011/39 004) to 11.47% (4 638/40 427); The prevalence of girls malnutrition decreased from 15.52% (5 974/38 487) to 9.86% (3 793/38 474). The detection rate of overweight and obesity increased from 13.92% (10 790/77 491) in 2004 to 20.26% (15 987/78 901), with an average annual growth rate of 4.35%. The detection rate of overweight obesity in boys increased from 17.26% (6 733/39 004) to 25.85% (10 452/40 427). The detection rate of overweight and obesity in girls increased from 10.54% (4 057/38 497) to 14.39% (5 535/38 474).@*Conclusion@#Guangzhou has stepped into one of the cities with double burden of malnutrition.

ABSTRACT

To determine the association between overweight-obesity and mood disorders in adolescents, specifically depression, anxiety, low self- esteem and body dysmorphism. Methodology: Comparative cross-sectional design in adolescents aged 12 to 14 years, two groups were integrated the first with overweight-obesity and the second with normal weight. Mood disorders were evaluated with Beck-II Depression Inventory, Hamilton Anxiety Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Cooper Body Form Questionnaire. The statistical analysis included chi square and odds ratio. Results: Overweight-obesity association with depression was found in OR 17,94 (IC 95% 8,17-39,38), OR 11,11 anxiety (IC 95% 4,75-25,97), OR self-esteem 8,40 (IC 95% 4.08-17.24) and body dysmorphism OR 9.64 (IC 95% 2.14-43.17). Conclusion: There is an association between overweight-obesity and mood disorders in adolescents(AU)

ABSTRACT

his cross-sectional study aims to investigate food habits, socio-economic status and blood lipids profile in schoolchildren (10-11 years of age) living in a low-income area of Mexico (the city of Montemorelos), characterizing lipid concentrations among children obese and evaluating the impact of socio-economic factors and dietary habits on blood lipids profile of these children. Complete data were available for 156 children (78 boys and 78 girls), food habits and socio economic status were assessed using a questionnaire developed from the one previously used from the enKid study conducted on Spanish children. Food reported in the questionnaire was classified in four food groups (animal source food/legumes, grains/tubers, fruits/vegetables, fats/sweets), beverages were classified separately. Blood samples were analyzed to determine concentrations of: total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose. Children were found to eat fats and sweets more frequently than other food groups. The 59 children, found to be obese and overweight, presented significant higher blood lipid levels (except to glucose levels) than normal weight kids. Using random forests, we found out that food and beverage consumption plays a key role in influencing blood lipids profile in children overweight and obese. Given these observations, it's crucial to develop health care policies promoting healthy eating habits among schoolchildren taking into account the specific characteristics of this geographical area in Mexico(AU)
