ABSTRACT

Abstract Bovine pestiviruses are the causative agents of bovine viral diarrhea, a disease thatcauses severe economic losses in cattle. The aim of this study was to improve their diagnosisby developing a RT-qPCR to detect bovine pestiviruses A, B and H; and to set up a protocolfor collecting, shipping and preserving bovine pestiviral RNA on filter papers. The developedRT-qPCR showed high sensitivity in detecting these viruses in different matrices: viral stocks, semen and serum samples. With regard to the possibility of using the technique to test serumpools, it was possible to identify a positive serum sample within a pool containing 30 sera.In addition to evaluating the qPCR from fresh samples, the use of filter papers to sow bovinesamples was analyzed. The sampling method on two different filter papers using bovine blooddrops was a useful alternative for diagnostic purposes and allowed to preserve pestiviral RNAfor up to 12 months under refrigeration.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of scientific papers in the field of global liver diseases published by Chinese scholars that were retracted for diverse reasons from the Retraction Watch database, so as to provide a reference to publishing-related papers. Methods: The Retraction Watch database was retrieved for retracted papers in the field of global liver disease published by Chinese scholars from March 1, 2008 to January 28, 2021. The regional distribution, source journals, reasons for retraction, publication and retraction times, and others were analyzed. Results: A total of 101 retracted papers that were distributed across 21 provinces/cities were retrieved. Zhejiang area (n = 17) had the most retracted papers, followed by Shanghai (n = 14), and Beijing (n = 11). The vast majority were research papers (n = 95). The journal PLoS One had the highest number of retracted papers. In terms of time distribution, 2019 (n = 36) had the most retracted papers. 23 papers, accounting for 8.3% of all retractions, were retracted owing to journal or publisher concerns. Liver cancer (34%), liver transplantation (16%), hepatitis (14%), and others were the main areas of retracted papers. Conclusion: Chinese scholars have a large number of retracted articles in the field of global liver diseases. A journal or publisher chooses to retract a manuscript after investigating and discovering more flawed problems, which, however, require further support, revision, and supervision from the editorial and academic circles.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a new world order. The outside became a barred territory and the main premise was full-time coexistence with all the household members or a life in the solitude of the household. The fear of contagion and death appeared as a result of daily reports. Isolation as a condition led to virtual communication as a way to connect with others, to explore from the inside and somehow endure lockdown. The virtual realm as a meeting point was used across all areas, including healthcare ⎯oldtreatments continued and new treatments started through teleconsultations or video calls. The present paper analyzes the virtual sessions of a young girl starting psychoanalytic treatment at the request of her mother in order to intertwine the symptoms enabling a personal demand and adolescent psychic work from inside her room AU

ABSTRACT

There are specific ethical requirements and review principles for submitting papers or reports in medical academic journals. Researchers often consult the ethics committee on the rationality of the ethical requirements of journals at the (to be) submission stage, or ask for assistance in solving the ethical review requirements of journals: applying for ethical review for the clinical research to which submitted papers or research reports. Based on the perspective of hospital ethics committee, this paper discussed the ethical review requirements of academic journals for clinical research papers or reports. Combined with the practice of handling clinical research authors’ demands, the current situation of applying for ethical review, common problems and cases, this paper put forward three suggestions: academic journals should concretize the ethical review requirements of submitted papers or reports; researchers should internalize "ethics first" in their hearts, and conduct research according to laws and regulations; ethics committee should give full play to positive guidance and services, and cooperate with clinical research management departments to strengthen and complete the supervision of clinical research. So as to provide ideas for further standardizing the publication of clinical research papers and reports.

ABSTRACT

Discussing papers based on this methodology and published in scientific journals specific of Physical Education, we observed that the forms used to analyze the oral sources were constituted in a differentiated way in relation to what we are accustomed to find in texts of other areas, mainly about the conceptual treatment of memory and identity. In order to understand these differences beyond a brief initial finding, we set the following guiding question: how Oral History methodology has been used in scientific papers published in journals of area 21 (Physical Education) in Brazil? We conclude that the way of doing research in Oral History in Physical Education keeps its peculiarities and these should impact on our own production.

ABSTRACT

Background: Blue print is a scientific tool to set an examination question paper. In this study, an attempt has been made to know whether the MUHS MBBS community medicine theory examination papers (I and II) are representative of the MUHS syllabus. Methods: MUHS community medicine examination papers were collected from various sources. The syllabus is declared by MUHS for both the papers. I conveniently divided each paper syllabus into 14 divisions as per chapters given in Park’s Textbook of Preventing and Social Medicineand MUHS suggestions. A working guideline of ‘question paper analysis’ was framed and validated by fellow faculties. The question papers were grouped into 4 categories based upon the number of deficiency scores: good (0 to -1), fair (-2 to -3), unsatisfactory (-4 to -5) and poor (-6 and below). Results: In paper I (sections ‘B+C’), total 33/35 papers were analyzed. ‘Good papers’ were 7 (21%), ‘fair papers’ were 14 (42%), ‘unsatisfactory papers’ were 8 (24%) and ‘poor papers’ were 4 (12%). In paper II (sections ‘B+C’), total 33/35 papers were analyzed. ‘Good papers’ were 2 (6%), ‘fair papers’ were 17 (52%), ‘unsatisfactory papers’ were 9 (27%) and ‘poor papers’ were 5 (15%). MCQ papers (22/70) analysis showed that 13(59%) MCQ papers were good, 7(32%) were fair and 2 (9%) were unsatisfactory. Conclusions: The paper-setting at MUHS community medicine paper I and paper II is not appropriate for syllabus representation.
