ABSTRACT

Abstract Objetive: Evaluate the perception of Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in patients diagnosed with tuberculosis and its relation with their work. Materials and Methods: We used the SF-36 and the dimension of work of Sickness Impact Profile (SIP). Results: The dimensions of the SF-36 perceived as bad, were physical role, vitality, mental health and general health perception. 60 % of total reported not having a job at the time of the study. Conclusions: 80 % of patients were at working age so that in addition to their HRQoL household income from quit working is affected, increasing the social impact of the disease.

ABSTRACT

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most important public health problems ofthe world, with 8-10 million new cases and 2-3 million deaths each year. About 50 million people are infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In order to develop immunodiagnostic tests for TB, several antigens have been tested for the humoral immune response of patients with active TB. ELISA was performed with plasma samples from 45 patients with pulmonary TB and 172 contacts (96 negative and 76 positive for the tuberculin skin test). The humoral immune response was evaluated through assessment of IgM and IgG antibodies against recombinant Mycobacterium tuberculosis GroES (MtGroEs). Patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis had higher levels of IgG anti-rGroEs than healthy individuals, allowing discriminationbetween the two groups.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the influence of nursing intervention on the medical compliance of patients with tuberculosis. Methods We divided 432 patients with tuberculosis into test group and control group according to the in-hospital date in our internal medicine department from January in 2004 to April in 2005.The control group received routine nursing intervention while the test group got full health education during the routine nursing intervention. Results The medical compliance of patients was superior to that of the control group after full health education during the routine nursing intervention(P<0.01).Conclusion We could improve the medical compliance of patients by giving full health education during the routine nursing intervention.
