Analysis of Parricide and Filicide in Korea / 대한법의학회지

Parricide, the crime of murdering a parent, accounts for about 5% of all homicides. Filicide is the crime of murdering one's own child. This study aimed to review demographic features and criminal characteristics of individuals who committed parricide and filicide in Republic of Korea (ROK). This study is based on data from the Korea Police Crime Analysis System, from 2006~2013. We assessed the diverse characteristics of both victims and perpetrators. Over the selected period, 381 parents were killed by their children and 230 children were killed by parents in the ROK. Parricides caused by schizophrenic murders accounted for 39.6% of all cases. Moreover, approximately 44.4% of the perpetrators attempted suicide following the maternal filicide. In our findings, psychiatric illness was a very important predictor in parricide, and these further suggest that young mothers with severe mental illness require careful monitoring by mental health support service.

¿Trastorno esquizotípico o esquizofrenia? Evaluación de la responsabilidad penal en un caso de parricidio / Schizotypical Disorder or Schizophrenia? Assessment of Penal Responsibility in a Patricide Case

Resumen Parricidio es el asesinato de uno de los padres. Presentamos el caso de un hombre que, en diferentes momentos, cometió dos asesinatos, uno de ellos parricidio. Se realizó un peritaje psiquiátrico del sujeto para evaluación de responsabilidad penal. Posteriormente también se lo evaluó en un servicio de atención psiquiátrica. Realizada la entrevitsa, el diagnóstico psiquiátrico final se estableció sobre la base de los criterios del DSM-IV-TR y el análisis retrospectivo de los registros de los hospitales y del peritaje. La evaluación de los expertos concluyó que el sujeto analizado sufría una enfermedad mental, en la forma de trastorno esquizotípico, con daños totales en la comprensión y la determinación. Por lo tanto, se lo consideró inimputable. Posteriormente, en una segunda evaluación realizada en un servicio de atención psiquiátrica, el paciente recibió diagnóstico de esquizofrenia paranoide. La determinación de la responsabilidad penal es esencial para encauzar correctamente a las personas condenadas en cualquier sistema de derecho penal para proteger los derechos humanos.

Abstract Patricide is the murder of one of the parents. We report a case of a man who had committed two homicides, at different times, one of them being considered a parricide. He was referred for forensic psychiatric evaluation and later evaluated in a psychiatric assistance service. Psychiatric interview was carried out and the final psychiatric diagnosis was established based on the DSM-IV-TR criteria and retrospective analysis of forensic and clinical records. The court appointed forensic experts concluded that the patient suffered from schizotypical disorder, presenting cognitive and volitive impairment . He was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Later, in a second assessment, being in a psychiatric assistance service, the patient received a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. The determination of criminal responsibility is essential to the proper disposition of convicted persons in any system of criminal law that protects human rights.

'O brincar e a realidade'... virtual: videogame, assassinatos e imortalidade / 'Realidad (virtual) y juego': videojuegos, asesinatos e inmortalidad / 'Playing and reality'... virtual: videogame, murders and immortality

Este artigo tem como objetivo enfocar as mensagens sobre a sexualidade que o adulto transmite enigmaticamente à criança, através dos jogos de videogame. Proponho a realidade virtual como uma espécie de realidade intermediária entre a realidade material e psíquica, que permite a realização das interdições: o parricídio e o incesto, porém sem as consequências punitivas, sejam estas internas ou externas. Nesse sentido, é possível considerar que o recurso à violência banalizada, principal recurso lúdico dos jogos de videogame, diga respeito menos a um perigo real de 'criar jovens e adultos perigosos' e mais ao entrelaçamento e satisfação pulsional dentro dos limites de proteção da realidade virtual.

This article has as objective focuses the messages about the sexuality that the adult transmits enigmatically to the child, through the videogame games. I propose the virtual reality, as a type of intermediate reality among the material and psychic reality, that it allows the accomplishment of the interdictions: the parricide and the incest, however without the punitive consequences, intern or extern. In that sense, it is possible to consider that the resource to the vulgarized violence, main ludic resource of the videogame, concern a real danger of 'creating young and dangerous adults' and more to the interlacement and pulsional satisfaction inside of the limits of protection of the virtual reality.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo enfocar los mensajes sobre la sexualidad que el adulto transmite enigmaticamente al niño, a través de los juegos de video. Propongo la realidad virtual, como un tipo de realidad intermediaria entre la realidad material y psíquica, que permite la realización de las interdicciones: el parricídio y el incesto, pero sin las consecuencias punitivas, sean éstas internas o externas. Es posible, en este sentido, considerar que el recurso a la violencia vulgarizada, principal recurso lúdico de los videojuegos, diga menos acerca de un peligro real de 'crear jóvenes y adultos peligrosos' y más al entrelazamiento y satisfacción pulsional dentro de los límites de protección de la realidad virtual.
